Jets fan here...

JetDude

Practice Squad
Wanted to start off by saying you all have a really nice set up at this website. This seems like a real nice message board.

I am a 21 year old Jets fan and I can honestly say that the Texans are in better shape then the New York Jets.:brickwall

Anyway, with all the rumors floating around, as they always do, I figured I would join up and talk to you all about it.

What are your feelings on a potential move down? I am assuming the Texans covet D'Brick at #4 if they traded with us. Alot of people think the Jets would want Reggie, but I would have to disagree.

I would want Matt Leinart to be our choice. We are in dire need of a franchise QB and Matt would be just that.

What do you all think the compensation would have to be on both ends? Here is my thoughts on possible compensation...two different trades...

Texans Give:
#1 overall pick

Jets Give:
#4 overall
3rd rounder
2007 first rounder
2007 4th rounder

I think that is what the Giants/ Chargers trade was

And here is the other possible trade scenario...

Texans give:
#1 overall

Jets give:
#4 overall
John Abraham
3rd rounder this year

Anyways I will be on here quite a bit until a trade is declared dead or until it actually happens so thanks for having me:rolleyes:

Welcome to the msg board.

Welcome JetDude.

I wouldn't mind a trade down esp with the Jets. I am not sure what the deal would involve ...(I am not sure if abraham would be part fo the deal considering rumors of Jets dealing him with the Broncos and Washington (and not sure about cap status of those guys either)) http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2346508

Yeah I have seen those rumors...

I think another possibility is trading the compensation from the Abe trade to you guys.

So say we got Denvers 29th overall pick for Abe...Maybe then the trade with the Texans and Jets would be...

#4, #29, 3rd this year and next year... thoughts?

I wouldn't get your hopes up. I don't see the Texans trading out of #1. Your best bet is with the Saints who would gladly trade down.

I would personally consider it... that would give us #4,#29,#33, then 3 high picks in the 3rd (ours/N.O. and then the Jets) ..and then a 3rd next year.. It would be interesting

6 picks in the top 3 rounds possibly could help get us a starter or two and some depth.. One player isn't going to do it for us.

I don't see how the Saints would gladly trade down. I think they view Matt L. as the most polished and prototypical QB in the draft and will gladly sit at #2 and take him if here's there. Now if someone traded up to our spot and grabs Matt, then I'll see them trading down.

If we were to trade down, I wouldn't want to go any lower than 4, so we could get Ferguson or Mario Williams.

My question would be why would they trade Abraham for the 29 and then trade us the 29? We NEED Abraham badly so it would work better, IMHO, to just throw in Abraham instead of the 29.

I'm a PRO-BUSH guy all the way...however, if we got Abraham, drafted Mario or Brick, and exchanged our 3rd for their 2nd? I'd probably do it. That would be close to the Godfather deal that I want...

but I think I'd rather just go with the homerun threat for no other reason than watching him on every play and just hoping that the announcers start screaming 40...45....50...45...40...35...30...20...10...5....TOUCHDOWN!!

:superman:

Pretty easy why they would trade down. There is not much of a drop off from Leinart to Young to Cutler. They are 1a, 1b, and 1c, respectively. It's not like you have Matt Leinart and then Brodie Croyle as the next best QB prospect. This draft is a better version of the Eli, Big Ben, Phillip Rivers draft. The Saints also are short on picks in the first day because of their trade with us. Benson is also a cheap owner who will do whatever he can to save a few bucks. All of those factors combined is why the Saints would be gladly to trade down a few spots and pick up some extra players.

Well we are only a couple of months from the draft. I personally hope the Texans do get Abe and the #4. This could set up a Mario Williams pick. Put Abe and Williams on the Dl and we got some end rushing ability. Right now the Texans have "projects" at DE. We need something legitimate and Abe would be a step in that direction. Williams would ba an exclamation point for the defense. We could actually see if our CB's and Safeties can cover for the 3-4 seconds it takes to reach the QB with a real pass rush.

If I went the other way, then We still get Abe and draft D'Brick. Our OL and DL would be about twice as good. We could have Pitts playing RT and bench/release Todd Wade. Maybe if the Jets released their All-pro center for cap reasons he could land with us. (Now I am a :homer: ) The DL would at least have solid DT's and 1 real DE.

I would be happy either way. These two scenarios are more attracive than taking Bush, Leinart, Young, or Cutler IMHO. I geuss I just think before getting the skill positions players we should focus on the core of the team, the OL and DL. :twocents:

I reckon if we traded down with the Jets we'd still end up with Bush. Saints and Titans will look for a QB first the Jets want D'brick.

If not Bush, I like Mario Williams

these are my feelings also which make sthis a no brainer but that depends how much cass is enamoured with bush cause there is also obvioulsy the risk another GM says great lets make a deal with the saints lets say the 49ers and they take bush. this is what i think would happen if we trade down cause in this scenario the saints could get cutler. i know we havent heard cutler to the saints hype but that dont mean nuthin.

I think I could probably go for that. :)

JetsDude, I would take either one of those scenarios that you gave us. I think the Texans are going to make a mistake if they don't make a real point of looking for a deal and the Jets are right in the right spot to make it happen. I won't complain too much if they just take Bush with the first pick, but I really believe it's not the right move.

Your trade values are pretty much spot on. In your 2nd scenario I would have to insist on next years #1 in place of your 3rd RD pick this year. Would you agree?

If the Jets want D'Brick, why would they trade up with us? They would simply let us keep the #1 pick (Bush), watch the Saints and Titans take QB's and then they would take D'Brick at #4. Reggie will not still be there at #4.....we won't see 3 teams pass him up. If the Jets trade up, it's to take Bush (to replace Curtis Martin) or to take Leinhart.

If we deal down, there are 2 things I would focus on trying to get: #1 picks next year (especially from a bad team like the Jets with Peterson/Brady and that stud WR coming out next year) and Picks in the first 2 rounds this year (the first two rounds this year are stocked with guys that help us).

So, my suggestion with slight changes:

Texans Give:
#1 overall pick, and #66

Jets Give:
#4 overall
2nd rounder
2007 first rounder

The other trade scenario...

Texans give:
#1 overall

Jets give:
#4 overall
John Abraham
2nd rounder this year (or a 1st next year)

Whoever picks in the #1 slot will take Bush. No way in the universe does Bush fall to #4 - That's insane....

...plus, it would rip the fabric of space/time!!

I don't think the Saints see Leinart, young, and Cutler 1a, 1b, and 1c. I think they View Leinart as 1 and Young and Cutler 2 and 3 with possibly Young being 3 since he has kinda given them the cold shoulder in a couple of interviews. Thats why I don't think they will trade down unless someone trades up with us and takes Leinart. The Saints are in love with Leinart and there were rumors that if pressured the Saints might be willing to move up to our spot to take him if pressured. Which would be great because then we could take Bush at #2 and still get picks.

D'Brick won't be there for the #4 pick.

Bush
Leinart
D'Brick

If they stay put they will probably be choosing between, Super Mario, Vince Young, Cutler, Vernon Davis, AJ Hawk.

Hey JetDude, welcome to Texas via the internet! I have pushed for a trade down for Ferguson, but I understand McNair wants TD makers and only 3 exist. He will not draft Young leaving Bush and LenDale White. Few would take White over Bush. Supposedly, a quality left tackle will be available @ our pick in 2nd. If so, I don't think he will beat out Pitts.

Jets Dude, like your idea but I would say, don't count out Tenn's possible desire to want that #1 pick. I think Fisher and Chow would really jump at the chance of adding Leinert or Bush. With McNair getting banged up and this late in his career I can see their desire for Leinert really lighting up. McNair has, maybe 2 years left in the tank and this would allow Leinert to pick up the NFL pace this year and probably start or spot start 2007. Leinert is probably ahead of McNair at this stage as far as understanding Chow's complete playbook. If Houston and the NYJ talks really begin to heat up, Tenn probably steps up to the table. Teams that desire a franchise QB know that only one is currently available in this years draft. Jury will be out on both VY and JC.

Me, I would jump at the chance, should we trade with the NYJ's to ask for their #4, #29 (From Denver) and R2 picks this year or drop the RD2 this year for next years R1 pick. Is this enough??? I really don't see the upside of adding JA to this trade because we will have to negotiate with him come 2007and if he has an adequate season it will cost us a ton to resign him or Franchise Tag him. Also, when teams start dumping salaries we could easily add some veterans through FA for a lot less money, still keep all our draft picks and stock up on young talent for the future.

If Tenn should pull the trigger, we have to get their #3, R3 & R5 this year and next years R1. If we could squeeze them for another pick next year, I'm all for it. Now comes the crazy part, if this goes down, do we entertain the possibilty of moving the #3 pick (RB, VY or JC) for another 3 to 5 picks for the 06 - 07 Drafts???? Now, if we had to start this years draft at maybe #4 - #13 giving us the potential of 19+ picks during the 06 & 07 drafts can we make this work for us like Dallas did with H. Walker trade????

The possiblilites boggle the mind at this point...but it sure is a fun way to kill time until the 29th to speculate. :redtowel:

My thoughts exactly....I honestly have NO IDEA what we're going to do or what's going to happen - none - zero - zilch - nada...but is IS fun nonetheless!
