Jesse James-TE

Wolf6151

All Pro
James is listed as being 6'07" and 254 lbs. by CBS, that's great positional size. Does anyone else think that he could become a Texan in late April/early March? Garrett Graham could easily be a salary cap casualty thus leaving us with a need at TE, O'Brien has familiarity with James from his coaching days at Penn St., and I think O'Brien will continue to improve the overall size of the Texans. Both Bah007 and CBS have James listed as a 3rd round prospect. Opinions?

He's either going to be a real bad ass in this league...or be out after a year. But any production from the TE spot would be a great improvement.

Watched a couple of his games last night. He is very agile for a guy his size. At the same time he goes down easy and isn't a real good blocker. Just looks weak. Obrian should know whether or not he has the mental makeup to become a legit NFL TE. He sure has the physical tools. We'll see on draft day.

Thanks to whomever moved this, accidentally posted this on the wrong page.

I'm thinking he's got great size for the position and if he can help the passing game from the TE position, where we really need help, and should already be familiar with OBriens scheme. Maybe take him in the 3rd or more likely the 4th round.

The problem with this is he would need at least one season to ramp up his skills especially blocking and if Graham goes, we need to have someone to step in. Hopefully that is Feido but not much evidence to support that although I really like him.

I have faith in all the under perfoming players from last season that they will step up in 2015 and fill several of our needs now that they've had a year under O'Brien and/or a year in the NFL and now know what's expected of them. I think XSF, Fiedo, Griffin, D. Johnson, etc... will be fine in 2015, some guys just take longer than others to adjust to change. With Fiedo and Griffin stepping up in 2015 it would give us the flexibility to take a 3rd or 4th round TE with tons of potential like James. I was just thinking of the possibility of improving our passing game with a TE than a new slot WR.

Our TEs are not as incompetent as last year's stats would indicate. We had poor schemes and QB play (failing to see the middle) for their utilization.

TE yardage:
2014 - 468
2013 (Graham only) - 545
2013 - 1041

Which isn't to say don't draft a TE. I didn't think Graham should have been signed last year. Just I don't think the fault was predominately on them last season.

Agree, would target Walford, TE out of Miami to replace Graham.

James is slow in a straight line but he moves very well in small areas, which is where TEs do most of their damage.

I was very impressed with his tape, and I'm very impressed with his combine workout as well. If you look at all the drills/tests as pieces of a puzzle then he comes out at the top of the class when you put everything together. He demonstrates similar athleticism to Pruitt and Saxton, who he is considerably larger than. They are just a lot faster in a straight line.

I like Williams and Walford as my top two. After that, I have James and O'Leary very close together.

Any way to play Heuerman at moveTE?

He didn't run at Combine, but I'm thinking 4.6s (maybe shed 10 lbs.)

At 6'5" he doesn't fit prototype, but his blocking is horrid and he has good hands. Kind of a reach, but this TE class is baaad.

Michigan WR Funchess ran really slow today. Big framed guy. Might project as pass catching TE.

Funchess started his career as a move TE before flexing out to WR. His measurables fit the move position but his play style does not.

He wants to be a WR. Some teams are not projecting him as one though.

Like ive said in the past. Any team who gambles on him as a WR with a top 2 pick is asking for trouble. I just dont think he will be able to break away and get open in the NFL. If he wants to go back to TE, then you can roll the dice on him.
