Jarrett Hicks

Dr. Toro

Rookie
Great size/athleticism/hands/route running combo... seen him have a high grade from scouts before 2006... comes from a great athletic family, Houston native... would be a nice guy for the Texans to groom as a 2008/eventual Moulds replacement... unlikely to last past the 2nd round... I doubt we have the freedom to spend a first day pick on Hicks... lit up Texas tonight with intermediate routes, catch and run, and some aerial game.

2007 WR draft corps looks very strong... with Samarzdjia, Jarrett, Hicks, Johnson, and Sweed as big guys with game, measurables and solid production. Steve Smith, Ginn, and the fellas from Michigan look pretty good too... deep, deep receiver draft.

I agree. the pundits are saying it's a thin WR draft. I just don't see it. Think it would be a big mistake to move up for Calvin Johnson with this much tallent out there. I like the idea of taking anyone who slips past day one to groom behind Molds. Not tring to push him out. Just think that having a great young Wr ready when he's ready to hang it up would be very wise A.J. production insurance. The fact that Hicks is a local Kid makes him that much more appealing. Shame we're loaded at tight end. Several of those guus out there also. Think Sweed goes back. Very rare that a UT guy goes early . We'll see. I have no idea what his family situation is like. Might be a case of have to with his stock this high. He would be perfect also. Productive guy, play maker, just needs some polish from the veterans. I also Like Blythe out of Iowa St. But like you wrote there's several out there. Won't all go day one.

Really... they say it's thin... don't follow too many gurus, just look to them to back up what I see with my own eyes... nearly every site I've seen had Hicks top 5 and his performance tonight confirmed that. Sweed is horribly unpolished... half the time it doesn't look like he's actually running routes... but I once heard an analyst say that was intentional. Sweed is a poor man's Roy Williams just like Benson was a poor man's Ricky Williams.

Hicks isn't gonna wow people with measurables like Johnson, Jarrett, or Samarzdjia will, so there's a decent chance he could fall into our lap. I'm personally more interested in a guy who produces and doesn't completely rely on his athleticism. A Steve Smith or Hicks interests me more than the freaks do... we already got one in AJ. It would be nice to finally add a guy with Houston ties... go ahead, call me a homer.

Well, if we are going strictly off undervalued performance...I'll take the Rice WR. He will need to break NCAA records to get a serious first day look. He just produces, and I agree with your assessment: We need players not potential players.

Im a Tech student so Ive been watching him the past 2 years and ive been having up and down feelings about this guy. On one hand, he can single handedly dominate and control a game like he did vs UT last night in the 1st half. He has great hands, knows hot to get open, and can break tackles after the catch. However, he missed part of the season for grade and school issues, and for the 1st few games he could play he did nothing. As of now, I think he'll go R3 - R4 depending on combine and measurment stuff (Tech players love screwing themselves over running 40s and with measurables). He needs to run a 4.5 to keep his stock day 1 and show determination and character that scout will question because of his brief inelidgability. If he falls to R4 I say we get him because of his talent and college bias of course. Given time, I think he could be made into a great #2 receiver and would go along great with AJ.

That's what I'm thinking Lork. He slips pasted day one, I think he is very good value. We go OLT one and defense 2 & 3 , they could jump anywhere with the fourth. If he blows the wonder lick, that will be a problem for him. NFL game is too complicated to just brush the student thing aside. Might let it slide for deffensive lineman but not a WR. Gotta have some smarts to remember what to do, how to adjust to switching coverages.

I thought that guy was a sophmore ? Yep just rechecked Jarret Dilliard, if that's who we're talking about is just a sophmore according to Yahoo's team page for Rice. http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaaf/teams/rrb/roster

Does he have a circumstance where he can come out early ?

He's a redshirt. But he's got 1st round potential if he puts on weight over the next few years, IMO. He's likely to play two more years at Rice. So far under the radar, right now. Hicks is a good kid.

Well I think the problem was with his classes is that he wasn't taking the necessary steps to graduate or blew off a summer class. Either way, I think the 40 will kill him more.
