Jared Goff

I don't like the fact that he plays in a Mike Leach based offense. That stuff just does not translate to the NFL very well because of all the easy, simple reads and lack of progressions. That being said, he seems to have all the tools and is very poised under pressure. Biggest thing for a QB in a spread system is to ignore the crazy stats and instead watch how they respond to pressure and how accurate they are under duress or when throwing into windows. I think Goff is very impressive in both categories. He's going to have a bit of a learning period when he gets drafted but I like what I see.

I feel like the Texans should consider Goff next year. I would even be fine with trading some picks to move up in the draft. We never do anything with our 2nd, 3rd round picks anyway. We might as well finally get a QB.

It's hard to say he doesn't remind you of Aaron Rodgers.

I was hoping he would continue to stay under the radar and here you go starting a thread about him. :strangle:

This is my guy for next year.

I'm on the bandwagon as well. Throws the ball very well and has above average mobility. I like this guy

Agreed. I can see why people want to make that comparison but it's kind of a cop out.

The comparison game doesn't really mean anything, plus it's tough to really peg anyone down when it's this early. I do have two in mind though. Maybe a more advanced version of Jimmy Garoppolo. But the one that I really see is Sam Bradford before the injuries.

As I typed that I was trying to think of a better comparison and honestly Bradford is the first name that came to mind. Funny. A guy who on script looks fantastic. I just wanna see him tested a bit more before I go with comparing him with someone who may be the best ever.

Cal is now 5-0 for the first time in eight years, mostly on Goff's back as they still have very little real talent elsewhere on the roster. Goff now holds the school record for TDs.

He's completing 70% of his passes for 326 yards per game and 15 TD/4 INT.

Cal's schedule is brutal from here on out. They drew the toughest rotation this year. They already had Washington on the road. Next week they play at Utah. The next week at UCLA. They also have to play at Oregon and at Stanford down the stretch.

Goff looks like a very interesting prospect.
I like his footwork a lot, for the most part.

I don't think we can wait for Keller Chryst, so I think I'll pull the trigger on Goff.

He (Goff) does have many qualities one looks for in a prospect, even though his field awareness isn't on par with Mariotta, I think his footwork is quite sound, he can spend more time learning other parts of the game.

I want to see more of him, but at the moment I think he's worth a first round pick for sure, and most likely a top 10 or top 5 pick.

OK, maybe I shouldn't commit too soon.
But he does look very intriguing.

What if the Texans pick and Leonard Fournette is there? Or he is staying at LSU?

I'll definitely be watching the Cal game this Saturday. But it doesn't seem to me that Goff is OB's type of QB. ;)

hard for me to think Goff will be there for us and probably not Cook either despite our trying to move up each weak (pun intended).

Really? Something about this team makes you think it'll draft lower than Goff will be available? I admire your optimism, sir.

I have us drafting #1. But even if the Texans somehow manage to win 5ish games to put them at #8, they damn well better be ready to wheel and deal to get a top QB. This ****'s gotten old.
I agree but there has to be a top QB available. I am still not sure on Cook and want to watch more of Goff. If there is a franchise type QB identified we need to get him. As of now I think TB, Detroit, Oakland, SF draft higher and perhaps Chicago, Jags and Tennessee. Philly still teetering . If not a QB, it better be a play making, point scoring machine like Ezekial Elliott. I usually go for RBs in later rounds but huge step down from EE to next back (Derrick Henry). Only 3 RBs in top 75 and Clement's out with hernia repair (does that sound familiar?).

I'll just say that if the QB situation is not settled this coming offseason then someone should be fired. If not, I'll lose my faith in O'Brien.

I am still not sure on Cook and want to watch more of Goff.

Well, of course. At this point, we're all in evaluation mode. Substitute Jared Goff for whatever top QB name ends up being there at the end of the season and the argument stays the same. The Texans better get off their ass and get one. If that means trading up 7 spots, so be it. I still think they'll pick in the top 3, personally. This team sucks, but even worse, they have lost faith in the coaching staff (deservedly so).

Breaking Down Cal’s Jared Goff
http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/breaking-down-cals-jared-goff/

I’ll also add that I am against true junior quarterbacks entering the draft. Far more fail to live up to expectations than succeed once they get to the NFL level. Why? Mainly because they aren’t as good as people thought and they aren’t physically and emotionally ready to compete against men at the NFL level.

I strongly feel a quarterback needs to be in college a minimum of four years before he even thinks about the NFL.

Jared Goff is a talented football player but from what I have seen he is not ready to be an NFL player. He is a true junior and can’t even legally buy a beer.

To evaluate a quarterback properly a scout needs to see every play of at least 8 games and that is at a minimum. My look here is after seeing three of his first four games. In those games, Goff has yet to face a strong defense. Next month Cal has to face Utah, UCLA and USC in consecutive weeks. We will be able to get a much better and truer evaluation after watching those games.

"For now, I would be against Goff even considering entering the draft. He is in no way ready to play at that level. Right now he is a good college quarterback in a gimmick offense and it ends there. He needs to not only finish this year but come back and play in 2016. He isn’t close to having the talent of an Andrew Luck or even a Derek Carr."

My favorite quote from this article, nothing could be more true:

It wasn’t that many years ago that ESPN’s Todd McShay lauded Mississippi’s Jevon Snead as a top five pick in the draft. Snead left school early believing the hype and he never got drafted. He was signed as an undrafted free agent and spent a minimal amount of time in a training camp before he was cut.

The draftniks are not real NFL scouts. They never have and never will work for an NFL club and they have absolutely no accountability when it comes to hyping a player. They change their mind on a player sometimes on a weekly basis. NFL scouts can’t do that because they are held accountable on every report they write.

Has there ever been a college QB that Gabriel liked? Most college QBs don't make it. So if he bashes them all, he'll be right most of the time.

From the little I've seen of Goff I haven't been that impressed.

I like Wentz better.

He looks like a lesser mariota with that offense he's running. I just don't get it at this point why people are so high on him though I have not watched him or any of the qb's extensively at this point.

Goff is going to become the next great QB in the NFL.
The team that drafts him is going to be very fortunate.
This guy will win three or four, maybe five Super Bowls.
That Touchdown pass he had just now was a beauty.

I'll take a lesser Mariota any day. "Analysts" crushed him pre-draft and labeled him a system QB while anointing Winston as being 'more pro ready'. Meanwhile, people who actually did their homework saw huge flaws in Winston's game and saw extremely encouraging things in Mariota's film in regards to poise, awareness, and accuracy.

Ignore the offensive system and just study the player. Goff has top notch pocket awareness, accuracy, ball placement, and he goes through his reads lightning quick without missing anything. He's the total package.

Both those INT's are on Lawler. 1st one was thrown perfectly in stride and bounced off his hands to DB. 2nd one he ran his route too shallow and tried to adjust it after ball was already thrown which allowed DB to win position.

With the up coming schedule I believe Goff and Dykes will be exposed, all the media hype will subside and Goff will decide to go back to school.

Possibly. Cal isn't a top 25 team regardless of their current ranking. I'm not all that disappointed in Goff's play thus far though. 4 INT's looks awful on paper but only 1 of them was a bad throw. I'm very interested to see how he responds. That will tell us a lot about how ready he is.

From my perspective I put two of those INTs on Goff.

The problem is the Texans are going to draft a QB high . That's a problem if it's Hackenburg , Jones or any prospect you really reach for .

Brutal. Doesn't have his best stuff tonight. That's disappointing.

Still a game though somehow.
