Jags could have $30M for free agents

This could spell bad news for us...

Despite being burned by the Hugh Douglas signing two years ago, coach Jack Del Rio vowed Monday that the Jaguars won't be timid when unrestricted free agency opens in March.

One day after the Jaguars finished 9-7 with a win at Oakland, Del Rio admitted his team still has holes -- especially at defensive end and No. 2 receiver -- and intends to be aggressive in filling them with veteran players.

The Jaguars could have as much as $30 million in room under the salary cap available to them in free agency, and their targets could include New York Jets defensive end John Abraham and Raiders wide receiver Jerry Porter.

how does a team have 30 million in free space? We can't even count how many holes we have and we're up close and personal with the cap limit.

They better do something or the 12 people that have season tickets will decrease to 6.

Speaking of salary cap, there was a thread on the Texans' salary cap for the next couple years. I think aj posted that. Could you please put that up again? Also how much money can we tie up in freeagents and rookies this year. Right now I'm just wishing that we never gave Gary Walker that huge *** contract for no production. :thud: We could have really used that money. Is there anyway out of that???

It will go back up as soon as I find out some details on some of the more complex contracts. There's a lot of things going on bonus-wise that's not generally published in media reports. I'm currently working a new lead that I hope will pan out so we can bring the worksheet back up.

So Del Rio has vowed to get aggressive in free agency (or something like that) and they've got a lot of money to spend.

That's worked out so well for the Redskins in the past I fail to see how Jacksonville could fail to win it all in 2005.

Seeing as Porter and Abraham will stay were they are,its cool. Please tell me u guys aren't scared of the Jags...they remind of the Suns in the mid 90s with the Rockets,no matter how good the Suns got, they couldnt touch us.

I saw the FAs in the paper, well the some of the big time FAs...all I can do is this...

*Prays Steelers let Plaxico go* (Wouldn't him,AJ and Gaff kill defenses...don't look at me like that, its ok to dream :heh: )

It worked for the Eagles pretty well. Being aggressive doesn't necessarily mean being stupid. Sure we got burned by Hugh Douglas, but hopefully we learned to sign young guys coming off their rookie contracts, not old guys looking for one more big payday.

Imagine a defensive line with Stroud, Henderson and Abraham. Carr should be shtting his pant(ie)s with that line of yours

Thank you.

Weren't those the same needs the Jags had going into 2004?

Del Rio is your head coach. Paul Vance is your cap manager.
mybad, well the point is things are looking good for us with the cap right now, I couldn't say that when Coughlin was here it may have not been his fault directly but at some point someone has to step in to stop those things from happening.
