I've been looking @ the Browns board...

cptnbreakdance

Waterboy
They are talking about not wanting the #3 pick and trading to mid first round for a pass rusher or a lineman, so how about this.....

I know they say the Browns want DJ but why draft to your strength when you have so many other weaknesses? The LB core of the Browns is the least of their problems. If they do stay @ #3 I think they will pick either B. Edwards or more likly than not Ronnie Brown.

If they do want to trade down, since J. Sharper is on the trading block and the browns are switching to the 3-4 we trade J. Sharper, the #13 pick, and maybe our 3b pick, for the #3 pick in the draft to pick up DJ. It could happen and if we are getting rid of sharper then we might as well try to get max value from his replacement in the draft. Ditto to this trade to any other team with a top 5 pick.

What do you think about this idea?

Sounds good to me, I dont think the Browns would mind an extra pick or two along with Sharper.

thats an interesting scenario.. I think we would be slightly overpaying by giving our #13, Sharper, and a #3... also.. it would really suck to do that then have DJ get drafted at #1 or #2..

but, it is the best scenario ive heard so far.

Overpaying just a little i think, but it would be worth it. Sharper is on the decline and we would be adding some youth with DJ who is expected to evolve into a stud throughtout his career. Sharper would also release alot of cap room. I would love for this deal to follow through, too bad i don't make the decisions though.

As for DJ being picked up at 1 or 2. San Francisco is most likely to pick up a QB which they really need and Miami will take a RB unless they pick someone up in FA which i think is highly doubtful. So if we were to move up to the 3rd pick I think it would be pretty safe to say that we'd take DJ.

that 3rd rounder is just a conditional add-inn not necessarily a must have, the reason I added it was because I didnt know the values of what we are trading, and if Sharper and #13 werent enough, then the 3b definately put it the two sides at least equal.

We would basically be trading Sharper for DJ straight up. The only problem is there is no guarantee we will get him at number 3 and that would be horrible. We would be stuck with the number 3 pick and not getting the player we wanted.

Discussed by who? Domanick Davis is our RB of the future. Besides why would we waste our pick on a RB who couldnt catch a cold knowing that David Carr loves to throw to his RB?

I would first get Sharper's contract re-worked to be more cap friendly and movable to another team, if the Texans even have to eat money to make it work I doubt that would be a problem. I would have all the details worked out and agreed upon prior to draft day with open comminication with the Browns & wait until that 3rd pick to be sure DJ was still available.

Can't catch the flu?? Benson can catch the ball out of the back field. I don't disagree with Ronnie Brown or DJ or anybody else. I'm not saying that's what we should do, just what's being discussed.

Like I'm sure they are discussing many other options. I just heard this today from Lance Z on 610 and he said that an inside source told him that they Texans were looking seriously at Benson which means they are preparing to move up. Whether that with Cleveland at #3 or Miami at #2, I don't know.

Where does the perception that Benson "can't catch a cold" come from?

People are so taken by the combine. It seems like the combine clouds people's minds and causes them to lose their sanity. Which is greater 4 years of actual game film and research or a few days of intense tests on a guy?

Also, I don't want to see us host the Senior Bowl again. We seemed to overvalue guys we saw there (Wand and Joppru to name a couple). A mid 2nd round pick for Joppru when Witten was on the board? I thought it was a bad choice then, and it seems even worse now.

True dat.

Exactly what I was thinking on draft day. Hopefully, Joppru turns out ok.

Such a trade would probably be cut on draft day when the Browns hit the clock. Of course, everything would be worked out in advance on the assumption that the player would be there - but if the time came and he wasn't, no deal. Happens all the time, just usually for picks rather than a player.

Benson had 179 total recieving yards in 2004 and was thrown to 61 times. That means per each time he was thrown to, on average he gained 2.9 yards. That just isnt effective. That may be the reason he only had 179 recieving yards. :hmmm:

maybe....

i think that has more to do with the offense and vince young, than benson not being effective, from watching vince, he either tried to throw downfield or run with the ball, so i think benson is a better reciever than his stats indicate.

He had 22 receptions for 179 (8.1 per completion).

Are you saying he had 61 passes to him and only caught 22 of them? If that is the case, I find that hard to believe that he only caught 36% of his passes.

I would actually argue that a man who can catch 36% of Vince Young's passes is a great receiver. :slap:

Obviously you don't make that trade (if drafting DJ is the teams plan),
until draft day right after the #2 has been taken and DJ is still on the Board. But it would be a great deal for us, how could we go wrong - as long as we didn't have to eat a huge hunk of Sharper's cap - and even then I'd be wiiling to take a couple healthy bites. Come to think about it, I'd make that trade whether or not we got DJ.

Very funny! I'm sure you will catch some grief for that one considering the amount of posters on this forum who are blinded by love of the Longhorns.

hey i love the 'horns but you have to admit that Vince needs some work done in the passing game, he can throw when he has to, but he would mch rather run and put passing in the back of his mind

Thats exactly what im saying, hence the "couldnt catch a cold" remark. Even if most of the drops/incompletions were Vince Young's fault, he should be able to catch more than 36% of the balls thrown his way; he should be able to adjust.

If he cant adjust, then he couldnt be a pass-catcher in the NFL because a dump-off to the RB is exactly that. A pass in the direction of the RB because the QB doesnt have time to look for another reciever because the pressure is too great. Not always the most accurate of passes.
