It's kinda funny. I took a look at last years mock draft and they couldn't have been more wrong. The whole first round was no where close to what actually happened. So we maybe so sold on this "mock draft" thing and be totally way off. But it's nice to have something to entertain us with until the draft actually goes down...

last year i invested a lot of hours into researching draft picks...i even subscribed to a draft service. and what happened? we traded up into the first round and gave up the rest of our first day picks. who wouldve guessed we would have selected players like lord to switch postions etc...

ive pretty much given up speculating players we might have an intrest in outside of the first round because i think ive decided casserly has to be about the toughest gm in the league to put a finger on.

and now with the sharper/foreman situation he reaffirms my thoughts. im done trying to make first day mocks or postional mocks (i had a series of postional mock post last year). i've resigned myself to sitting back and enjoying the ride. i have enough faith in casserly wether he does what i'd like him to or not.

But what I hate is when you hear the "yeah, well if you knew what you were talking about, you'd be the GM instead of (insert real NFL GM here)". Because we all know EVERY pick EVERY GM makes pans out.

i agree...and its fun. thats why we're here. but if ya take it to seriously...you set yourself up for dissapointment on draft day. call it akin to post partem depression maybe ...you spend countless months researching players and waiting for the draft...after its over you've got a lot more waiting to do till the next one. especially if your team didnt fill the needs you thought they would.

last year I missed the draft party because of volunteering to help assist with regional judging (of course, beer). the shock when I heard the news was sureal to say the least (Babin trade-up). but I chalked it up to experience and was fine with it, time to move on and never be surprised that Casserly could pull something off out of the box.

my biggest regreat is not having enough time to view enough College games and video tape of all the talented College football being played each year. as a scout that is your lifeblood when it comes to this time of year and projecting where talent should be ranked. but because its only entertainment you should not take it too far where you lose all the fun. if you lose that feeling & you become so pissed off then its probably best you take a time out or take up another hobby.

I research every NFL draft for one reason for the most part. I'm a big NFL fan and want to get a good feel for who is coming into the league each year. Once you do this enough years in a row you all of a sudden get a good feel for not only the elite starting players in the NFL but also the second level players on all the teams. I don't really take this time to look up all these guys to project where they are going in the draft. I'll let the NFL teams do that for me, but speculation can be fun. As an example, I like to host the mock draft for more of a learning experience than an acutal projection since its a fun way to learn more about the players. Each year I study the prospects because I do it for my love of the NFL and my desire to have a good feel for the talent base and the potential of each team as their rosters shift and change yearly.
