Yes he will...He will be a 1st and 2nd down back and DD will be the 3rd down back. Or we may do wishbone or split back formation...He will share time with DD but will be a starter.

He won't be starting next year. I suggest you go to a preseason game to see him for a whole half of a game. (I will be there).

If we take him, he better freaking start, if we dont it is a waste of a draft pick. If we want a guy to sit and learn the draft Vince Young, if Reggie can't start draft OL. Reggie Bush will have to start!

He might not be, but not because he's not worthy. If they have him and Mathis both back for the opening kickoff, he probably won't start. That would be just because of kickoff returns though.

Well put. Seriously. If this wasn't such a classy forum you could've saved a letter and it would've been a totally perfect answer.

You're drafting projects in the latter rounds. The #1 overall pick (particularly THIS one) should be expected to not only start, but to finish.

Reggie Bush on kick returns!? Unheard of. Way too much of a chance for injury. Besides, why would we need him?? Mathis was one of the ONLY players that gave 150% last year, and my 13 jersey should be in the mail soon! Mathis is what, a 5th string WR if we get Moulds? That is expendable. Not someone like Bush.

No, I think they let him sit out for a year until he's comfortable with the offense! He will just observe DD, until he takes over:) !

Agreed. I think Kubiak has the balls to withstand media and fan pressure to expose a still young Reggie Bush to the full force of an NFL Defense.

he wont be a texan....also, you had this thread in the right place earlier, as the bullpen is only for players ON the texans roster, not for players you would like to see them draft.

I agree.

Do you think that the front office of the Texans are going there to see him? Yes to some extent, but they want to see what kind of tentative trade offers they can start working. I do not think they are going to draft Reggie. I think they are still going to trade down and get more picks to add depth to their already improved FA moves so when those guys are ready to leave, this draft class will be more than ready.

They are not going to draft VY for the LAST time, they just extended Carr's contract recently didn't they? And I believe it was after Kube was hired so that would tell me he wants Carr too.

I agree, I want either the Texans to trade down and pick up D'Brick and some O-lineman, or to get Bush. VY will not be a Texan. It's nothing personal at all, but VY is too much of an investment and Carr has just been given a big contract. Drafting Vince Young would be folly. Bush is someone who will be valuable much sooner than Young. But he wont be starting in front of DD next year, not a chance. And he will definitely not be on a kick return (MAYBE punt return, but not next year). I would like to see them trade down, but I dont think it can happen.

Bush will start. Whether he is lined up as a receiver or as a running back is a different question.

Bush won't return kicks. If he returns anything, it will be punts. Kick returns are too dangerous for franchise players. Punts on the other hand, aren't as bad.

If we pick Bush, I have little doubt that he'll start. And I'll be a little surprised if they trade down, to be honest. Some people see Reggie as a no-brainer pick, so you never know if the FO is in that mindset.

I will be glad when the draft is over, tho', just to cut back on all the excessive speculation and mass hysteria that seems to permeate Texans land these days. We'll be able to talk about real potential instead of what if's and maybe's.

What makes him so special that he will be a starter. Not a chance. Kubiak won't give into the "hometown Texan" VY argument, and he will not give into public criticism if Reggie is not a starter. He has a lot to learn from DD and it will take preseason games and a series of split-back plays before he will be ready to be considered as a starter.

He may not be on the field for the first play of the game but he'll be out there for the majority of the offensive plays. He's too talented to stand on the sideline for long.

He will be sitting on the sideline with broken ribs if they play him too much. He needs to work on his weight issue before he can be an every down back, and I don't see it this next season. DD can push it up the field, Reggie needs to hit the steakhouse and benches for a few months first.

Bush will start. There is a much smaller learning curve for RBs than most other positions, and if we use the #1 pick and $50 million on him he will start and most games will get more carries than Domanick Davis, and they will likely look to throw the ball to him a lot too. I don't see him being on special teams at all, with that kind of money you're going to want him as your main RB and not want to risk fatigue and injury by having him return kicks. Mathis was a pro-bowl kick returner in his rookie season and is definitely sufficient there and he can cover the whole field so they don't need to have both of them back there together, and Bush would not likely return punts since they have Buchanon who is pretty good at it and Domanick Davis can at least field punts so if something happens to Buchanon then I think they'd put Domanick back there before Bush.

Yea, all things are possible, though. He could be on the depth chart for punt returns, but definitely not kick returns. Kubiak understands how to use the running game, so I agree that he will see the ball. I don't think that he will have the ball the majority of the time, at least for the first half of the season. Like you say, there is a learning curve, although a small one. So we will have to sit back and see. I have faith in whatever Kubiak wants to do. If Bush still weighs 206 pounds and Kubiak wants to place him above DD on the depth chart, so be it. I won't grouch. But I think next years focus will be on mixing up the calls, sending multiple RBs in a split, trying to work out the O-lines kinks and breaking in the young Reggie.

It's not about public pressure, it's about talent. I never implied that Kubiak would care what the public thought.

What makes Reggie Bush so special that he might be the starter? I don't know, maybe you should figure out why he's a Heisman winner and probably the no. 1 pick of the draft.

Not a chance? yeah, we'll see. :ok:

Hey, I like the guy. But Kubiak will ease him in. You dont honestly think that Kubiak will throw him right into the foray, do you? Especially with our schedule next year... running aspect will be one to deal with. Remember... Bush had a phenomenal rush blocking scheme at USC. Here, he will have 5 guys that dont know each other, and he will have to adjust to the fact that the rush block isnt as good. My only argument is that Kubiak, after training camp, will NOT put Reggie ahead of DD on the depth chart. He may get playing time, but he wont be the every down back. Too small, needs experience. DD isnt old or anything.

You've got good points, TexansLucky13. It very would could be a slow process. But Bush's talent could be enough to hit the ground running. His size is probably the biggest concern, tho', no doubt about it.

Of course, this is all speculation based on the premise of getting Bush. DD is good and could easily be our primary back, IMO. So trading down is not something I'd be upset about, specifically because I believe in DD's abilities.

I agree.... with him, size is our number 1 concern. DD could always push it up the middle, and ive had tons of faith in him.

I would also agree that a trade down could be just as beneficial. We can pick up multiple guys that may very well be the Reggie Bush's of their own respective positions (D'Brick, OT... Mario, DE). We couldnt get both of them, but we could get one and then another high pick. Its a big draft this year for OL, luckily. I think one of our 2nd round picks should go to McNeil, OT, if we dont get D'Brick.

If we get Bush, I would be interested to see a split-back formation. Do you know if Kubiak is familiar with it? I havent followed the Broncos, so im not sure. We could drop them into pass patterns, which they excel at, drop it on DD and grab some sure yardage, or hand off to RB and watch him work!

Why is his size an issue? Dorsett was smaller than him and i'm sure Dorsett did not bench press 425 lbs.I think he'll be just fine.

To clarify, do you mean Kubiak "won't give into" because:

1) he is stubborn and wrong
2) he knows better than the "public"

I hope you mean 2.

Bush will start if he is drafted. You dont spend 52M on a RB and not start him. That is just not bright. RBs dont have a huge learning curve, mainly learn plays and blocking. I do think he will be on the puntreturn depth chart, but I seriously doubt how many touches he gets there. He will get some, because Kubes will have to be creative to get Bush his touches. Look for 15-20carries and 5 catches. That is the likely break down pergame.

Reggie Bush isn't too small to be an everydown back

Tiki Barber 5'10 200lbs
Warrick Dunn 5'9 180lbs
Marshall Faulk 5'10 211lbs
Priest Holmes 5'9 213lbs
Edgerin James 6' 214lbs
Julius Jones 5'10 211lbs
Willie Parker 5'10 209lbs

From what Reggie said he plans to play around 210 lbs...which is about average with these players...I dont think he will have a problem being an everydown back

Pretty sure I heard McLain already say that he is around 206. He will be 210 by opening day-a game in which he WILL start.:superman:

RBs have a much, much smaller learning curve and any RB taken high in the draft generally starts from day 1, it's not like with QBs that take a year or two to learn the NFL game. There is no reason for Kubiak to not start Bush, he doesn't need to sit and adjust to the NFL game in any way.
