Is anyone else Physically Sick about this?

Maybe he beat out Buchanon on STs too! The only thing I want to know is can he chase Vince all over the field twice a year?

What makes you so sure that VY won't juke out Mario twice a year. VY is a big big dude and he has excellent vision and sense of pressure. I won't be surprised at all if VY makes M.Williams look really bad.

That's malarkey. The only way Bush gives you 25 TDs is if you have the offensive line to do it and the defense to set you up. Plus, how can a part-time player get that kind of production from you? I think you're trying to convince yourself that Bush was the right pick by talking about these phantom 25 TDs. Now NO has the problem of having two RBs, a bad team everywhere else and just one ball. It's their problem now.

Who said Bush was going to be a part time player? Not the Texans. He was going to get at least 15-20 carries a game as a RB, play some slot, return kicks. Oh and, by the way, the average number of carries amongst the top 20 backs is 18.3. The days of the backs carrying the 25-30 times a games is looong gone.

I think that is what he meant - in a sarcastic way...

not at all. IF we drafted bush he would have been the highest paid running back in the NFL without ever taking a snap. thats just not smart.

This is the best fit for the team. We worked hard on the offense in the offseaon with moulds, Putzier, and flannagan.

The defense needs an impact player.

That would be ridiculous. IMO

We'll take an OL or a TE. If not then its because a great athlete/playmaker is still available.

sorry about that thought Texan's had (2) 2nd rounders. Think they should go with tackle Winston

I can't believe some folks are actually "physically sick" from the NFL draft... All this tension and turmoil over players who've NEVER played a single down in the league!

Yeah, so the last DE taken number 1 overall in the draft was Courtney Brown in 2000...yeah, so he's not pegged any meters in 6 years, but Bruce Smith was a number 1 in 85 and he played 18 years and went to 11 pro bowls...so, ya never know..!

C'mon, it's not worth getting out the barf-bag over this stuff. Look at the last RB taken number 1 overall... Ki-Jana Carter? Are you kidding?

Calm down folks, try and look at the glass being half full. We may have another Bruce Smith on our hands.

As a side note, in the last 10 years, QBs have been taken number 1, overall, 7 times. I'm kind of surprised Leinart went at number 10...

That's what I'm hoping for....I'd like nothing better that to have a beast as a defensive player.

No, McNair would have demanded that I agree to make this statement before the draft or he would have picked you, obviously a lesser poster, to post in my place.

Well he certainly wouldn't have picked you - no one seems to want Hurricanes this year. I would have told him I wouldn't play for such a third-rate organization. Send me to N'awlins!

Well, staring at my second season ticket invoice, I am thinking about holding out for a better pick. As for the Hurricanes, I pray that Winston doesn't end up in this black hole of a franchise.

It'll be allright guys...I've seen many a Team draft a questionable pick in the First round, then redeem themselves in the 2nd round...

I agree that Williams might not have been the pick, but, the pick has been made..I kinda felt let down when the Saints picked up Brown last year...and that turned out to be great for us....

wait for the 2nd round..I bet you guys get a refreshed outlook...

Of course that's what we have to hope for but the numbers don't really back it up. Williams stats for '05 are suspect. Look where most of the sacks came - end of the year against some pretty suspect teams.

The sad thing is the reason to forgo a clearly superior talent - because they couldn't get a contract signed before the draft! How often does that happen. For crying out loud, NO picked Bush after he refused to visit their facilities. What this tells me is the Texans either have no faith in their ability to get a contract or they're just being cheap. Either way that doesn't bode well for the future of the franchise.

Huh? They have TOO MANY DE's. Babin, Peek, and Weaver.

Babin and Peek were DEs in college - and Capers tried (unsuccessfully) to make them into OLBs.

Mario was a monumentally stupid pick. If we weren't going to take Bush, we should have traded down. For anything. That way, we could have spent less (more under the salary cap for other needs).

This was the worst of all possible moves.

remember the draft is a crap shoot Bush and Williams could both bomb! We won't know until they get on the field. Also you mention about salary cap. Bush would have been asking for the moon to come here! maybe that is why they decided to go for the best DE in the draft. Curious who should they have traded down for?

I doesn't look like that's true (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft06/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2426087)

I think the odds of regretting this decision are awful high. I'm in disbelief...I'll be more surprised and impressed in this team's brass than any other decision made in history if this turns out to be an awesome decision. I can't let myself put much hope in that prospect.

This is not a questionable pick, everyone needs to stop listening to all of the BS. Bush is going to be awesome no doubt but the fact is we have a decent RB but because we are going to a 4-3 we are in dier need of DL. This pick also makes last years pick even better, Travis Johnson. How many games did we lose last year late in the 4th quarter when the opposing team drove down scored a fg or td to win because our defense was horrible. I personally think Mario will be even better then what Ray Childress was. I think they thought this thing through totally and made them team overall better tyring to fill up holes instead of enhancing a spot that isnt that bad. Also I bet they draft a RB later today anyways!

Who says Bush would have even signed with us! Rumor is he is going to be asking the Saints for more money then what we paid for Mario!

As we speak, Bush is on Benson's Private Jet and on his way to the Big Easy...

Here's to the NEW New Orleans Saints!!!:yahoo:

I just wonder if Reggie can live up to the hype that the media and fans have created..

big shoes to fill (sayers, sanders, etc.etc)

How about trading down for Williams? At third or fourth even without any considerations?

At least we wouldn't be paying him #1 pick money.

Quite possibly the most idiotic draft pick since NO sold the farm for Ricky Williams.

yeah this is a total downer...im really shocked...i figured the GM and HC would be smarter than this. At the very least, they could have traded away the first pick, got a fat bonus, AND Mario Williams would still be there at the 2 or 3 pick!

thats what i have been questioning for a long time now.

I would be more worried about Mario living up to the hype. He is the one top draft pick that is going to need to produce early and often or that stadium is going to be empty and ugly. I do feel for him in a way just because he has been put in a very difficult position. I hope he becomes the stud they have assured us he will be.

we couldn't trade down cause no one wanted to trade up. we should have won that last game. DAMN Chris Brown and his missed kicks

As I said, even with absolutely no considerations from the other team, trading down would have been a better deal.

And you're saying no one was willing to trade up when it costs them nothing?

I find that laughable, or would if this wasn't so freakin depressing.

he would have been gone by 3 or 4 a good DE is more important than a great running back. just look at history. Plus a DE will last longer than a RB. #1 money for a DE is still cheaper than a RB picked #1

First of all, yes, this is my first post here, but I've lived in Houston my entire life and followed us since our early days.

Second, after being absolutely shocked last night...I'm am finding that it's not getting any better. If ESPN shows one more clip of Bush juking 11 people in a row and then Williams tackling a JV quarterback again...I think I'm going to vomit

There are enough threads on Houston's thoughts/outrages already, I'm just curious if anyone else actually feels physicall sick about this? I honestly feel nauseous and I can't get over it. This whole thing is making me sick...literally.

Somatization disorder anyone?

I totally agree with you dude. This pick is going to go down as the worst in teams history. I am a Die Hard Texans fan, but this pick is making me really sick. How do you pass on the 2 most gifted players in the draft. VY and RB. Something you just dont do. What the hell are these guys thinking! We will see how good this guy is when he is getting double teamed. Most of his highlights are from one freakin game. To inconsistent and cant even bull rush from what i hear. We can add this to the list of f_ _ _ed up picks in the past. Only this will be the worst because of the talent that they missed out on in order to get him. I dont see him being any better than a J. Kearse. Which is ok, but not great. Bush would have added so much more to this team. We still dont have what all championship teams have, A FREAKIN GAMEBREAKER!!!! Oh wait a minute, i guess that is what they are labeling DD. A gamebreaker...LMAO. Look forward to seeing him for about 10 games this yr. Then we will have to depend on a back up to finish the season.:brickwall

Well, the Pats fans seem to like it.

I dread watching Vince tear up our new #1 DE twice a year.

Maybe he'll be merciful.

I can wait to see that happen. Twice a yr for the next 10-12 yrs. Going to cause me a ton of headaches. VY will make them regret not even considering him for the pick. What could have been....RB-vs-VY twice a yr. for the next 7-9 yrs. Man it could have been exciting.

Davebo,
That is the fact that is lost by most here. Mario might be a great football player, but enough to be the #1 pick. The point being that Mario was not the best value at #1. I heard several rumors as to what the Jets were offering New Orleans. I find it hard to beleive that a similar offer was not made to the Texans. The stuff I heard they offered to New Orleans was insane...2 ones a two and a three. Maybe not true, but if it was...

*Sigh*
