Interesting stat . Top rated QB's and Play-offs

Looking at the top 10 rated QB's in the NFL , 7 of these QB's took their teams to the play-offs and two others posted 9-7 or better records (Chargers Drew Brees 10-6 and Chiefs Trent Green). The other in the top 10 was Marc Bulger who played in only 8 games and the only team w/ a top 10 rated passer to have a losing record (6-10)

The interesting thing here is the direct corelation between pass protection , quarterback effeciency and making the play-offs ...

Kerry Collins 39 sacks (15 games), 77.3 QB rating, 4-11
Aaron Brooks 33 sacks (13 games), 70 QB rating, 3-10
Michael Vick 33 sacks (15 games), 73.1 QB rating, 8-7

Only 2 of the top 16 most sacked QB's had a rating over 90 and in both cases, just over--Trent Green 90.1 and Tom Brady 92.3.

Averages 20.8 passing attempts per sack--97.5 QB rating. (Big Ben really stands out here as being pressured more and performing well under pressure.)

There are certainly chicken and egg arguments to be made, but FWIW.

It's no surprise to see a direct correlation between passing attempts and sacks as they translate to success. One of the reasons I cut Carr a little slack is simply due to the fact that no QB can make plays on his butt or running from constant pressure. I'd honestly like to see what he's capable of behind consistent pass protection. It's the only way we can know for sure that he's got it or not.

What sticks out here to me is the same as above .... Group A were all play-off QB's , Group B ..... none of them made the post season .

ANd I have to agree , Ben's QB rating looks all the more impressive when you figure sacks per attempt .

Based on that pic above, I would say that Big Ben could get ticketed for PI and should be cut from the Steelers ASAP! (referencing the posts on K. Shanahan)

I was in Pittsburgh for the Steelers/Bears game and Ben came into the restaurant that many of the Steelers frequent after home games. He was with his boys and were about to sit down when he saw Bettis roll up in his car. Ben was like the kid he is was begging Bettis to sit in with he and his friends.

The kid is loved in Pittsburgh as many young ladies had there Ben on (#7 jersey). This is the character that he is and apparently something that Steelers fans are endeared to.

Shanahan's arrest record and Ben's citizen citation here are two different things.

I like how Bledsoe was conveniently left off the original most sacked list. He was the second most sacked QB and somehow, with that passer rating, had a pretty darn good year and got the team to 9-7. Its all how you deal with the pressure. But the stats are telling as to winning QBS. Ryan Leaf is big, strong, was surrounded by bad teams and all. Maybe he got a raw deal too and is really Joe Montana. Lets bring him back.

The top group does have 3 of the top 5 rushing teams but they also have some avg and below avg rushing teams . The Colts being 24th was somewhat of a surprise to me .
Then you have the Top rushing team in the NFL in Group B ..... The rest of which are avg or below .
