Good article from the NOLA.COM website (NO paper) about the trade between
the 2 teams and motivations for making the trade.

"There were a number of things that could have happened," Mueller said. "The teams in front of us were rumored to be wanting to pick (Brown). We were concerned about other teams getting him, moving up, because Houston was pretty adamant of getting out of the pick. So we made the decision to just go get him, get the guy we wanted."

Is this an indication to all the DJ homers out there that maybe, just maybe CC got exactly the player he wanted? :hmmm:

The player Casserly wanted was drafted by the Vikings at number 7.
Ya got that right Ogre, there's no doubt about it. And I actually thought that Mark Clayton from OK was a better prospect than the SC WR, but Cass certainly didn't because he passed on him just as quick as he he passed on DJ.

I liked Clayton more than Williamson ; Casserly probably decided DL was a more critical need...He's probably right. Besides,we have a pretty good receiving corps especially if we can harvest all of Mathis's potential.
AJ
Gaffney
Armstrong
Mathis

I like the Mathis pick. From what I read, he needs to work on his route runnings, but so does Williamson. Mathis doesn't have to be a contributor this year as a middle round pick, but he brings the same kind of speed as Williamson. I think the best thing is that it gives us another speed option in case Bradford disappears again.

I was shocked when I saw we drafted a DT. I was thinking DJ or Barron the whole way after Williamson and Mike Williams went off the board. I even thought the trade was good because both DJ and Barron could have slipped to 16 (Barron did). Having two serviceable replacements at DL (Deloach is serviceable) is another good thing. We signed a bunch of LBs and we seem to have a deeper secondary (Glenn's trade notwithstanding).

you know i was all for us getting DJ too but you have to look at it from the club's point of view...derrick is the classic 4-3 weakside linebacker just like derrick brooks...he's not ray lewis, or kendrell bell for that matter...he doesn't take on blockers he runs around them...he's a different type of linebacker which doesn't match our style of defense...i'm sorry but will everyone please get off the DJ bandwagon...i know he's from texas...i know we have a lot of UT alum on this board...this was not a slap in the face to ya'll...this was what was best for the team...if we were running a 4-3 defense then he would have been our pick hands down...but we're not so stop dwelling on what have been and start looking at what we have...personally i can't wait to see travis johnson put the beat down on that fat QB over at jacksonville

C.C. said a week or so before the draft in the Chronicle and on FOX Sports Sunday that he didn't think there were any star level players at the top of this draft. So, I seriously think C.C. believed from the beginning that it was either Troy Williamson or trade down. And the trading down scenario became more evident after the Phillip Buchanon trade.
