Texans | Team interested in A. Davis
Sun, 12 Mar 2006 00:18:22 -0800

Jerome Solomon, of the Boston Globe, reports the Houston Texans have an interest in free agent WR Andre' Davis (Patriots), according to agent Kennard McGuire.

A fast guy that can return punts and is not quite mid level. Sweet lets give him AJ money. It is the trend right now. He is a pro-bowler so we have to make a competitive offer. I think 8M guaranteed in a 20M contract should suffice to bring this guy in. He will do a good job on the outside while we on the boards wonder why Mathis and Armstrong are still not getting any burn. I dont know but this move with Weaver has me even more pessimistic than usual.

It's because you now don't see them taking Mario who you really wanted Coach and you really thought that was the best thing to do, so that colors your perception due to dissapointment. IMO, we were NEVER going to take Mario without trading down and that doesn't look like a very likely thing now with all the QB pickups etc.. So, rather than not have a good DE on draft day, they picked up a pretty good young one from one of the top defenses in the NFL. Probably not as good as Mario MIGHT be, but not chopped liver either. Gave up a bit of "It's a crap Team" premium, but not much based on what Trevor Price, who is old and ending his career, got.

To me, the weaver move at least was a player to fill a hole.....its the sage rosenfels move that has me head scratching. a 2 million dollar signing bonus??? In a quarterback market with ramsey, possibly pennington, charlie whitehurst, brodie croyle, daunte culpepper, drew brees, matt leinart, jay cutler, vince young, tony banks, dave ragone, kerry collins, your telling me that sage freaking rosenfels was in such high demand that we had to pay him 2 mill just to sign his fat contract on the dotted line? Are we that good a team that we can spend our free agent money on DEPTH?????????????????? Im sorry, i was under the impression we had TEN holes in our starting lineup.

ESPN reports the Buffalo Bills have signed free agent WR Andre' Davis (Patriots) to an undisclosed contract.

I say to skip all three picks bush, ML, and young. The problem is we have a RB that has 3 straight 1000 yard seasons, Carr was the best in college, and if the o-line was a lot better then we will be an elite QB i love his deep throw but he doesnt have enough time to throw. I say we trade our pick to oakland, or titans to get a good CB, O-lineeman, and get fergusion in 1st round, 2nd round get brandon stanley from the badgers, be a great edition WR since we had more drop passes last year then ever, 3rd Cedric Griffion from Longhorns CB to help Robinson. Trade CB Phillip bucannon for a 2 or 3rd pick to get CB Bell from Mich. State.

We were the only ones stupid enough to give a 2nd or 3rd for him. That wont happen again.

Too late boys. Already signed with Bills

The Texans gave up a 2nd & 3rd round draft pick to aquire P-Buc from the Raiders he is in the last year of his contract (cheap by recent standards) so I not only look for him to play harder in his contract year it also helps the Texans cap situation at the moment.

If the Texans get an offer they cannot refuse to trade down 2 or 3 spots D'Brick could be targeted, 5 or 6 spots A.J. HAwk will be a bad *** MLB for someone. The Texans could really use more high picks to address needs they have had only limited success so far in filling via free agency.

Staying @ #1 nobody is going to fault the Texans for taking Reggie Bush. I beleive he instantly becomes the Texans #2 WR as well as #1 RB. Domanick has a storied injury resume' and too many game's missed because of it (check out the official Texans site depth chart, Davis is not even listed). Bush will really help spread the field and stretch the defense out of the slot or backfield. Defenses will have to scheme against him and no longer focus strictly on AJ, with Kubes is charge of the playcalling there will be dramatic improvement on offense especially if the Texans add a stud center like Nick Mangold

Who is Brandon Stanley? I have never heard of him and am trying to figure out why we'd draft him in the 2nd round. Philip Buchanon isn't about to get us a 2nd round pick, maybe a low 3rd rounder. Who is Bell from Michigan St? They have a safety on their roster named Mike Bell that is a sophomore and not eligible for the draft, but I haven't heard of him either and don't know why we'd take him in the 3rd round. Do you have some kind of info on these two players that no one else in the football nation have as neither were invited to the Combine and I haven't heard of either but you want them in the 2nd and 3rd round?

The paper today said we were also interested in Kevin Walter, WR out of Cincy.

Heck the WR out of Texas last pre-season, Sloan Thomas, was better than some of the guys they have or are looking at.

If they had intreat it's now to late.

agreed: Sky is not going to fall if we take RB. Just think the trade down scenario ending up with a stud in one of the lines plus a few pciks would be better for the long haul. I would add the guy or two into that mix, I'm a numbers guy Davis is not going to last very long with the ungodly numbers he put up. Neither is Huff. All four fill a need and plug a hole with an outstanding prospect. Just not sure if what we have on the roster, even with VY or RB, will be enough to get this team over the hump. 8-8 after a few seasons gets old quick. Like Mangold... bet you a coke the Colts gobble him up.

The Colts could look at Mangold but if they don't sign a RB in free agency I'm quite sure they'll take one of the big 4 in the draft assuming one of them lasts to #30, and one of them will likely fall that far.
