In the 2006 Draft, the Texans....

3960AD

Noob
draft Matt Leinart from USC. I have a lot of respect for David Carr, but unfortunately if he doesn't get the job done this year he's a goner. The oline is below average at tops, everyone from here to Siberia knows that. However, David Carr will take the fall for this one if we continue to get beat. David Carr did ok today, but remember there are no moral victories in the NFL. When the clock hits 00:00 if your down you lose. Bottomline!

Our defense was suppose to be the weak spot this year, but it seems its the offense. On paper these guys look great. Carr, Johnson, Davis. On the field, horrid.

If we continue to lose...we'll probably have a shot at Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush or Derek Hagan. Which would you guys go far at this point? Assuming we continue to lose. I personally dont see the oline getting any better, therefore I don't see us being able to generate any offense.

In an ideal situation, we'll trade Carr soon before his value drops...

mcnair and casserly are not *****s, they don't draft matt leinert, not a chance. Carr is doing well. but lets see 20 sacks in 3 games isn't exactly stellar blocking. let carr get sacked only once a game, and not get the pressure he gets every game, he is a top 10 quarterback in this league. we draft a lineman in the first, and a receiver in the second.. but how bout we don't talk about who we are going to be drafting at all, we just started the season

I say that we grab Marcus McNeill or D'Brickashaw Ferguson, both of those guys could make defenders look like this :brickwall .

So we get rid of Carr and get a less mobile quarterback with Leinart while still having the awful line? Thats like buying $10,000 rims for a piece of junk car. It looks nicer, but it won't change the ride.

Most people just dont get it with Leinart...

As much as we need a better O-line, if Reggie Bush is still available it would be interesting to pick him and convert him to WR. Having Andre Johnson, Jerome Mathis, and Reggie Bush would provide a ton of speed in three-receiver sets that would definitely spread the defense out if used properly. We still would have Gaffney or Armstrong to send over the middle on short or medium length routes since they catch almost anything thrown at them. Otherwise, I don't think we should get a WR. Bottom line, it totally depends on how the rest of the season goes and who is left at whatever position we get in the draft.

hey 3960AD, you are definetly a rookie. Yeah David Carr is struggling, yes we want him to explode onto the scene like everyone knows he can but you don't trade or cut or whatever your starting franchine QB who accounts for probably half your teams salary. David Carr has all the tools. We all know that, but to draft Leinart is obsurd...San Diego ring a bell? Then we have two QB's with huge salaries on our team. No point at all. You don't trade David Carr cause he is struggling. Okay, we have one GOOD receiever and one GOOD running back...SO WHAT? Who compliments Andre Johnson? WR by committee is not the answer. Is DD the game breaker we need NOPE but he is a good back at best. David Carr year in and year out has had to work with a patch work O-line, not his fault, no decent TE to rely on when he needs to get rid of the ball so clearly there are bigger needs to address in the draft. Like O-line, like a speed rusher to play our OLB, how about an upgrade over Coleman in the secondary. Yeah Carr is sucking right now but he looked 100X better yesterday, didn't committ any turnovers ( that was a chicken ****, bush league call by the reffs!) and was clutch in picking up to BIG first downs by running with the rock. Carr is our guy!

Terrible move to convert to move Bush to WR. The whole reason that Bush has so much value now is his versatility. Bigger, Faster, Stronger Michael Westbrook. If he converts to WR, he's your average run of the mill "great" WR.

I say - if we end the season with a top 5 pick - we trade it. I'll take either 2 first rounders or a quality veteran and a first rounder. We're at the point where we have to draft an o-lineman. I agree with the theory that we can't try to replace our decent players (David Carr and DD) with stars while we have terrible players at other positions. If we fix the holes our weapons will be able to perform. The O-Line is our biggest hole, let's start there. We also need another recieving threat - WR or TE.

I'm telling you, Ferguson first and Marcedes Lewis second. He is a 6'6 250 TE Antonio Gates clone.

Anybody know about that WR from BYU? I'ver heard that he is pretty good, yet know nothing about him

I am telling yall, our first pick will adress the line, so many OT in this years draft you can't pass them up. From Ferguson to Scott (is that the guys name from UT) man I am telling this years draft is a goldmine. I seriously doubt the Texans get an early draft pick, I feel they will finish strong, looking at 15th or 16th pick. I can't see another draft comming where we don't address our O-Line.

In the 2006 Draft, the Texans trade down to acquire another first round pick. They then use that first pick on a stud LT like Winston and use the second first round pick on a Defensive Ball Hawk. You know who I am referring to? AJ HAWK!

After an LT in the 1st, I would go with TE Tim Day from Oregon or Derek Hagan from Arizona St.

Tim Day has looked lost this year and only a borderline NFL talent at the rate he is playing. Oregon is throwing the ball around (4th in the nation in pass offense) yet Day is struggling (no TD's, 11 rec for 97 yds). I watched the Oregon Houston game @ Relient and he was benched for missing a blocking assingment & running the wrong route. I'm sure his stock will rise once the combines start but Tim Day does not appear to be the solution for the Texans TE situation as eariler thought

I gotta say I like the sounds of this - although I would love an opportunity to take Rod Wright.

To go even further, If we have the #1-2 and another 15-20. I'd go Bush and McNeil, Scott or Trueblood. I like AJ Hawk about as much as I liked DJ last year, but I would be pretty pissed if we go OLB after passing DJ last year.

Round 1 - (top 3) trade down to aquire more picks. Select best Left tackle available.
Round 2 - Speedy WR with good hands.
Round 3 - Balanced TE. (That guy from Notre Dame is looking solid)
Rounds 4 through 7 - Offensive Line.

we have a speedy wr. we just need to see his hands.

A number 2 wide reciever isnt needed in the second round. We have mathis(should be #2 by seasons end) and gaffeny can play a #2 for now. The position right now only seems to be lacking because bradford is starting. We have the recievers.

I am also against trading a top 1-3 pick...(we probally wont end up there)
If we are picking there, we take d'brick. You cant pass on future probowl players.

In place of the speedy wr you suggested, I would insert a center.

In the later rounds, like you suggest, i go RG somewhere in there, along with sleeper picks, raw and athletic ballhawks in the mold of a controlled peek.

JMHO

personaly in the 2nd round or the first 3rd, id like a pass rusher. a guy who does NOT switch positions but a pure passrushing DE or OLB.

Rd1 - Best LT or AJ hawk, Chad Greenway
Rd2 - TE if we dont get a LT in round one take the best oline here.
Rd3 - DLine
Rd3 - C or RG
Rd4 - youngest, fastest, biggest CB-S

I would like to have Bush as well but I refuse to bring in a player of his caliber and have him be done like the Lions did Sanders for years.

I'd love to get AJ Hawk. At this point Wong or Greenwood can go. It doesn't even matter to me at this rate.

But on the more serious side i'd like to see.....our 1st 2nd and 3rd round picks be offensive lineman.

Half (or maybe more) can be blamed on Carr. He holds on to the ball for too long, doesn't make the right adjustments at the LOS (how many times did Polamalu come in untouched?), and runs out of bounds instead of taking an incompletion.

Anyway, I'd take Leinhart in a heartbeat if he was available.

LMAO I think we can blame that one on the RB and TE.
LMAO Leinhart would get destroyed behind our oline. His career would be over after one season.

assume for a moment that Leinhart was the #1 pick instead of Carr in 2002 of the Texans. I'd bet that Matt would not have lasted this long, suffering multiple injuys & beat downs. heck he cannot even lunge for a couple yards on those gimpy knees its no wonder he's enrolled in ball room dancing  I really don't want to hear anymore pick Leinhart in a heartbeat posts. the Texans will always now look for a QB with excellent mobility, if your talking Vince Young or Marcus Vick then I'll listen. right now unless one of the elite backs fall to us the Texans must address the O-Line :ok:

Not all. For some of those sacks, the TE or RB was caught out of position. That's why I mentioned Carr not making the right adjustments at the LOS so his blockers (RBs, TEs, etc.) can stop the LBs or Ss who are blitzing. Plus, a lot of times, DD was released to the flats or to the middle of the field.

You would be surprised at what the Texans can do.

It seems the draft need/want over best player is being executed in Houston.

I like everything except your #2 pick. I could see going for a gaurd/ center type with the first third.
This is a team who's whole doesn't measure up to it's tallent. Mathis may turn into a guy who can get into the seam and wreck havoc with a cover two. We will find out this weekend. I hate to repick postions on day one. I've seen several Te's that can be had in the third round. ND guy is a very nice player. So is the ND reciever. Reminds me of McCafferty. He was a pretty good #2. I could live with the Carpenter/Hawk pick in the first round, throw the dice on the left Tackle in the second round. I believe will be high enough in the second round to land a good one. This assumes of course that Carr is still on the Roster come January. If he is and gets his bonus, One of the fab four LT's would be very hard to pass up. They run off six to eight wins, you can throw the Carpenter/Hawk pick out the window. They'll both be off the board. JMHO.

Agreed Beerlover. I said from day one in here, you build from the inside out. Do you wanna sell tickets, or get to the SB ?

He's got gimpy legs, but he makes up for it w/ good pocket presence. He knows how to dance around the pocket to buy extra time, looks off defenders, makes good reads, and is accurate w/ his passes.

Anyway, Young wouldn't be a bad pick either, but I prefer a traditional QB. Well....except for Madden

This is my view on next years first round. If we go the way we are going now i think we will have a 4-12 or 5-11 season. So pretty much top 10 pick. I say either way we do it we go O-line. Name 1 QB who can win with this O-line. knowone thats who. I dont even think Joe montana could win with this O-line. I think we go out and we get the highest rated OL on the board. I am a firm believer that the O-line is where games are lost and won. If you dont have a good O-line you will never win. I say give carr his contract then draft the OL in 1st round. Plus at this rate we will have a high 2nd rounder too so we can still get some 1st round quality in 2nd round

The Texans need to do whatever it takes to get D'Brickashaw Ferguson. He's a franchise type of LT & would solidify our left side for years to come. If we continue to lose this season, then hopefully, we'll be in a position to draft him without having to give up any picks.

I am not sure what the infatuation of drafting another QB ..we can't protect ANY that we have now. Even in training camp they were saying our DLine was getting after them and we know how the D-line is getting after the linemen in games (yes that is sarcasm)

NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no lienhart

quit using "lionheart"

yes, he is a great qb, but not for this team. honestly imho i feel that carr has much better physical tools and heart as opposed to being surrounded by quite a few players who are going to be first round draft picks.

Anyone who has watched this texans team as a true fan can see the heart and talent carr has, and should firmly believe in protecting him before we dont get a chance to see what he can really do.

Yeah, he's got the heart and talent, but put the homer cap aside for one moment and ask yourself....Will Carr ever take us to the next level?

In this current system? With this current offensive line??? No.

If we bring in even a "bad" coach, instead of a "****ing awful" coach, an aggressive OC and a line who can block perhaps one out of every 3 players??? Yes.
