In reference to the Titans...

I know many are writing the Titans off as an average team and as such devaluing our win on Sunday (or saying that against a "better" team it would have been a loss), but remember that we don't know exactly who the Titans are this year. Every season different teams emerge and different teams fall from relevance, and so far what we do know about Tennessee is that they play fast and disruptive defense and work to control the clock.

They also beat Pittsburgh last week, and I refuse to view that win as an afterthought. Pitt is a perennial playoff team and contender with a winner for a QB and HC, not to mention one of the consistently best defenses in the league year in and year out.

We also beat the Chargers, who just so happened to beat the Eagles yesterday who look better this year than last on both sides of the ball.

It's the end of week 2, and all I know is we are 2-0 against two 1-1 teams...and we gave them both their first loss.

I wish people would stop looking for reasons to doubt this team. It's as if people predict the worst so they can be the ones who were right..."I knew we wouldn't win" they'll say. Why not just hope we will? We're here because we're fans, right? Be happy with a win...don't look for reasons why it doesn't count or isn't a "real" win.

Sure, we might not win it all, but I certainly hope we will despite any of our flaws.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section Mods, but I figured since I was primarily discussing Tenn and SD this made sense.

SD sure looks tough, they went to Philly and knocked of the Eagles, and the Titans played us pretty damn good. A lot of surprises this early in the season IMO.

Chiefs look tough
Pats look a little weak
Ravens look really weak
Redskins look off
Colts dont look as good as advertised
Dolphins look good

I think we have beaten two very promising teams thus far and i am not down about how we won.
 
I like your optimism. You make good poimts about the uncertainty of a team's true ability level so early in the season. Thanks for posting.

Unfortunately, I just don't share that optimism yet. This offensive line is painful to watch sometimes. And it goes without saying that a Super Bowl contender shouldn't be eking out squeakers in Week 2, at home, against a non-playoff team.

That said, this team's individual performers are awesome to watch. Starting with Cush last week and Hop this week, and so many others who stepped up when they were desperately needed, the talent is undeniable. It's just the stupid mistakes. This is most unsettling 2-0 feeling I can imagine, I guess. To me, the team too often just looks surprised to be on the field so far.

As for Tennessee, I agree they're better than last year (except Kenny Britt continues to stink) and they definitely upgraded their talent level. Still, at our home opener against a rebuilding division rival, I would have hoped for more drives like the first one, and fewer like the ones that followed.

It needs to get a lot better to make a realistic run. And you're right...it just might. I sure hope so.

I dont really agree.

Tennesse went into Pittsburgh and won. Hard place to play even though this isnt the same old steelers team.

And San Diego went to Philly and beat a dang good Eagles team also on the road.

Dont forget how much tennessee spent in FA this off season, wouldnt really say they are rebuilding, more like up grading a few positions.

People can say what they want about our first 2 opponents, but all i know is that both those teams we beat have went on the road and won in some pretty tough places. So maybe they arent as bad as we all thought they were and maybe we are actually better than a lot of people on here are giving credit.

I do agree that the Chargers and Titans are better than we initially thought going into this season. But at the same time, we should be winning these games a little easier. Our pass protection has regressed from last season. The good news is the talent on the OL hasn't changed, so hopefully the problems are repairable. Second, Foster still looks rusty, but appears to be improving with each carry.
 
New year, new realities. Fan perceptions have to reset just like the league does. Titans defense can play some physical ball....their offense still blows though. Some things never change. :)

Agreed.

I'm a big S.o.S. fan. I bring them up several times throughout the year & I always get a bunch of slack, saying they're meaningless as every team is different every year. I understand that & factor it into my analysis of the S.o.S.

Jake Locker doesn't look like a first round QB, but he's not Blaine Gabbert. I didn't see any panic in the kid yesterday & I didn't see any poor decisions. & their OL, if we're not blitzing, we don't get him.

But it is still early. We don't know who the Titans are going to be. We don't know who the Chargers are going to be. We don't know who the Texans are going to be.... but so far, I'm optimistic about who we will become.

"We should have beat the Titans by 2 scores!!!" blah, blah, blah... we did that twice last year & it our "fans" weren't happy with that either.

Did you see New England? They squeaked out wins vs Buffalo & the Jets. Last year they lost to the Cardinals (5-11 in 2012, last place in the West) at home in week 2 (20-18).

Can't tell too much after week 2.

Maybe it goes without saying because it doesn't reflect NFL reality.

Patriots - 2 wins eked out against non-playoff teams deemed worse than those we played.
Ravens - 1 win eked out against a non-playoff team at home.
Bengals - so far 1 loss to a non-playoff team.
Colts - 1 eked out win at home against a non-playoff team.
Broncos - 2 solid wins.

Apparently the only SB contender is the Broncos.
 
The Titans are not a good team. They're a tough team that is trying their best to play mistake free football and to win games where they grind them out. They can't depend on Locker as a passer and they never will be able to. They will be a limited team on offense as long as he is there. Their defense looks better, but they are still a team that is going nowhere this year.

I agree about Locker...posted in the game thread that he was holding their team back. I was legitimately impressed by their defense on Sunday. I think a good amount of the "poor Oline play" in that game can simply be attributed to aggressive blitzing schemes carried out very well by athletic and fast players. Sure, the OL carries some of the blame, but sometimes the other team executes better and it doesn't reflect the long view of the season from a unit perspective (i.e. OL, poor secondary play one week, great for the next month, etc.)

As far as S.o.S, it's such a hard thing to quantify as teams can change so drastically from one season to the next even when there is little roster turnover. We see improvements and regressions on both sides of the ball from week to week, year to year. The big thing to understand is that S.o.S is never a concrete value, it's constantly in flux due to a myriad of variables.

Mid November, 2012 many, many "experts" thought the AFC went through Houston.

Mid November, 2012 many, many "experts" thought we were the best team in the NFL.

They were wrong. You know they were wrong. All our warts came out for all to see in December.

The Broncos weren't who we thought they were Sept 23, 2012

The Packers weren't who we thought they were Oct 14, 2012

The Ravens weren't who we thought they were Oct 21, 2012

The Pre-Season is meaningless. The Regular Season is just a qualifier.

We'll find out who the Texans are in January.... if we can stay alive that long.

Nobody said that at this point in time that SF or Seattle will be Super Bowl champs. I merely stated that there is a two game stretch that at this point in time looks like it will be tough. If you think that those two teams are going to magically fall off the radar by October I have bad news.

The way you talk it seems we should just pick two teams at random and go straight to the Super Bowl.
 
I have no idea who the Tinbreds are at this point of the season .... But one thing is obvious , Jake Locker has taken a step in the right direction. He made some great reads & really tough throws Sunday .... into tight spaces that I really didn't think he had the ability to make.
Also made a play or two with his feet ..... He's no Kaepernick , Wilson or RG3 but he's improved a hell of a lot since coming into the league.


The Tinbreds QB situation has gone from pathetic to adequate ..... given optimal circumstances.

I think this is exactly why they make us play the games and can't just go off of the paper. What looks like a tough schedule at the start of 1 season ends up being easy and vice versa. We could be lucky not to have Miami on our docket this year. They're bound to beat us one of these years.

He showed flashes, but 80% of the game he and the rest of their offense looked like hot garbage.
