In praise of Philip Rivers

Playoffs

Hall of Fame
I've been thinking about this for a while, and last night's game encapsulated for me that belief that Rivers is the most competitive on-field/never-give-up QB who has the singular ability to impose his will on his team and push them to improbable victories like he pushes his passes. He's often doing more with less, and hangs in a dirty pocket as long as anyone.

The dude talks lip all game long no matter what the score is and never ever ever quits. He's generally annoying, too. 49ers had the Chargers down 21-0, 28-7 and Rivers never gave up.

Rivers entered the game with a bulging disc in his neck and a rib injury he's had for much of this year.

His Chargers managed to tie the game at 35 and won it in OT in spite of losing the toss. Fun to watch, you can't ever change channels.

Rivers does it ugly -- his throwing motion resembles a shot put and he plays fast & loose with the ball turning it over often. But the guy has the heart of a lion and is as competitive on the field as anyone I've seen at the QB position. Gotta love the guy, Bolo ties and all.

He's been one of the most underrated QBs in the league for years. As a fan of another team, I find his attitude almost insufferable. But I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't take him.

I've a low always been a fan of Rivers. He's the definition of prototypical pocket passer. But he's missing that certain something that would mame him special. He's had some really good teams around him & has never been able to win it all.

Still... I'm a fan & I love the way he approaches the game.

Rivers was considered one of the best in the game a few years ago and then had like two lack luster seasons. He has come back with two back to back strong seasons again, so I'd saw he is right back to being almost elite again. I like watching the guy for sure. Ugliest throwing motion ever though.

Still work to be done between Rivers & Chargers for his extension. But the team thinks it can work out a deal to have him retire with them

Weeks ago, Chargers QB Philip Rivers was unsure about his future in SD. Now, I’m told the team is optimistic about a long-term extension
