& you had just taken over the Jacksonville Jaguars, what are you thinking going into the draft?

Consider,
Your team selected Luke Joeckel in the 2013 draft. You've committed to 3rd year player Austin Pasztor as you RT of the future, you're most likely going to sign Alex Mack as their center.

Defensively, you've got 2nd year SS John Cyprien, Paul Posluszny, Tyson Alualu, & Jason Babin.

You've got 10 picks in the upcoming draft. a 1st (3rd overall), 2nd (39th overall), a 3rd, two 4ths, three 5ths, a sixth & a 7th.

Do you think there's a player in this draft that can kick-start your program in the right direction? Are you looking at a 3 year plan? Do you think you have something to work with?

I drafted for the Jags in the TT mock.

1. Jadeveon Clowney - DE/OLB
2. David Yankey - OG
3. Jimmy Garoppolo - QB
4. Terrance West - RB
5. Victor Hampton - CB
6. Jordan Zumwalt - LB
7. Ego Ferguson - DT
8. Marqueston Huff - FS
9. John Urschel - OG
10. Josh Huff - WR
11. DeAnthony Thomas - RB

The problem is that the Jags have enough picks and this draft is so deep that they'll have a great opportunity to infuse their team with a TON of talent.

If Gus Bradley is as good as I think he is, they should be able to put together a team that's going to be tough to beat.
 
Not just the Jags, but the rest of our division is going to get a lot better very soon IMO. AFC South was the best division in the NFL awhile back and it may happen again before long. We are going to have some tough competition in this division.

I think the biggest problem with the Jags, was that they couldn't get out of their own way. One year they would go in one direction, the next year another.

I came across a story about Alex Mack & the Jags earlier today, that led me to the story about Pasztor, then I thought about Bradley, decided to look at their defense a little bit. He's got some good pieces to work with & a slew of draft picks to get more.

I'm afraid they might make a big jump this year & continue on that path, the path of actually getting better. If they don't fall to public hype & pass on the three QBs, and get a solid defensive player, like Clowney, or Mack...

Yeah, the AFC South just got tougher.

But if they chase the glitz & draft Manziel, Bortles, or Bridgewater, I think we'll be alright. They might look a little better for a little while, but in the long run, I think we'll be alright.

Like us, they need solid play at QB. People think we can't afford not to draft a QB. Is Chad Henne solid enough for them to bypass one of the QBs in this draft?
I'm not so sure.
 
I would offer a 4th & 5th to Houston and get the player I want for sure; probably Bortles then hope Tuitt slips to my second.
 
If I'm Bradley I'd go with the 3 yr. rebuild plan. In 2014 I'd spend the majority of my picks building the trenches on both sides of the ball and add an early secondary pick . The LOS is where football begins, it's the foundation. In 2015 I'd realize that we're going to be getting a high draft pick as well, when the QB class is a whole lot better and take my QB, his weapons, and work on the secondary some more. This would give my trenches a year to learn and gel so that my rookie QB in 2015 doesn't turn into the next David Carr. In 2016 I'd have trenches on both sides of the ball, a young QB with weapons, and a good start in the secondary and then I'd concentrate my draft picks on secondary, LB's, and fill holes as needed.

No. The interior of their OL is a mess. That's why I drafted a couple of guards and I was upset I didn't target any of the centers I wanted, earlier. They all got drafted away from me before I thought they would

That's why they made a big play to get Alex Mack away from the Browns, to upgrade that C spot. They signed Zane Beadles to play G but... he's not that great. This is a pretty good draft for OG talent, so they should be able to patch that up pretty good.

On the defensive side, they re-signed Babin for DE but he's 34 now. They signed Clemons to play DE but he's 32 and coming off a down year. They signed Ziggy Hood for DT but that's just depth. They're moving Alualu back inside. But they really probably got their best signing with Red Bryant, who's an upgrade over Alualu. But Bryant doesn't really help with the pass-rush and that's where they had problems.

Babin and Clemons could give them some good seasons and give them more of a pass rush than they had last year but they're both just stop-gap players. They need to draft some young DE talent to prepare for the future.
 
One very smart thing Gus Bradley is doing is recruiting these draft prospects,

trying to change the perception around the league that Jacksonville in a losing destination. It will work, too... I think you'll start to see players target J'ville in free agency in future years.
