The Texans need to lose to SF. The Texans need the top spot.
Why?
For starters. The Texans are not as bad as their record shows. This means they are poised to make a quantum leap next season in the AFC South.
New Coaching, a New attitude and the infusion of a little bit of talent is all this team needs to jump to the #2 spot in the AFC South. I won't be as bold as to say we can take on the Colts. As long as Peyton Manning and the Colts stellar O-line is in our division, we will probably be looking at a wild card. But the other teams...the Titans who overacheived this year with 4 wins, and The Jaguars who might be the worst 12-4 team in NFL history (Anyone who has watched the Jags this season knows they have had a good year in the Win-Loss Column but that team has some problems and it should not shock anyone if they drop off BIG TIME next year.).
I have Hope for next year...because I watched the NFC this year.
- Chicago Bears: worst to first
- Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Bucs: worst two to first two
- Cowboys, Giants and Redskins: all with Losing records in 04', all with winning records in 05'

You will notice something. That is not only a list of great players but a list of players are/were the cornerstone of their franchises. There are some amazing names in that list.
Trading Down would be a bad bad idea. It usually results in giving up a great player for several average players that are no long on the team in 3 years - it is the "I will trade you 10 pennies for your 1 quater" theory. But if there was ever a year when you had a player with a TON of hype(Reggie Bush) this is the year. BTW I think he is worth the hype. Of all the players going to the ProBowl this year half of them were picked in the first round. There are only 32 first round picks vs 200 plus guys in rounds 2-7 plus undrafted guys. First Rounds are your safe bet, trading down is a big time roll of the dice.
The #1 pick isn't just for the First Round. It is also the #1 pick in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th....rounds. It is huge. The #1 pick in the 2nd round is basically a first round pick and is a GREAT place to pick up that TE, LB or OT that we desperately need.
Another reason it would be great for the Texans to have the #1 pick is all the press coverage we would get. Lets face it if you live out of state you know what I am talking about. The Texans dont get talked about too much on the national radio or on the national TV. That would change if we have the top pick.
With that said.....
GO NINERS.
This is the last time you will see me root against the Texans. Actually I don't consider it rooting against the Texans. I consider it rooting for the Texans' future. This season is over for us. Let's start over next season with a bang.
