Would You Draft Manti Teo?

Mel Kiper had Teo as his #8 best prospect.

If more info comes out and Teo was behind the hoax and he drops and is available to the texans,

would you draft Teo?

We do need ILB depth....

4th round .... maybe. Any earlier ..... not a chance.

There are several better prospects available.

No thanks. If the guy can't figure out a fake girlfriend, what makes you think he will be able to diagnose a play-action fake?

I agree with Rey. He's not worth a 1st with head issues, but I would not have a problem with a 3rd. But, I think some team would take a chance on him before that point.

even if he has a great combine?

do you share texan front office philosophy where you dont draft players if they have off field issues?

No , not even if he has a great combine. I dont think he's big enough to play the position in the NFL.

As for the texans front office philosophy - you can scratch that off your conspiracy list .... they took Posey in the last draft with his off field issues. I also mocked Posey to the Texans last year .... in the 3rd round.

He's either lying or he's really, really stupid. Either way I don't want him on this team.

yep. Like Jimmy Johnson said, "punch me in the face if I ever draft a dumb player".

Point being, you can fix technique, work on mechanics, but you can't fix stupid.

Agreed! Dude has to be one of the most overrated players I've ever seen.

JaMarcus Russell says. . . IMMA GRIP AND SIP

EDIT: Also I might think about Te'o (wherever that apostrophe goes) since the Texans are going to have a late picks in the draft, but this is all highly highly dependent on how he does during evaluations. I wouldn't completely drop him off my draft board over this whole GF mess because we've drafted players with much more serious issues (Posey is one, and there were plenty of allegations that Cushing used roids before he got to the pros) than that.

Really though I don't have an eye for tackling machines and coverage LB's in college because I'm more focused on pass rushers and cornerbacks usually, for what it's worth there seems to be decent LB talent spread throughout the draft usually and not all just bunched up in the first. Makes me think that NFL staff's in general aren't as good at evaluating the middle of a defense (DT/MLB/ILB/SS/FS) in terms of college scouting, as they are the outsides (DE/OLB/CB).

You do realize he's being listed st 6'2" 255lbs? That's more then adequate size for the ILB & compared to the other top prospects he actually weighs more then most by 5-10lbs & he is right in line w/ the height.

I'm sure he will he grilled by the NFL teams at the combine & most are saying this incident won't have much effect on his draft status. It was piss poor judgement on his part w/out a doubt, but if he has a great combine I can see this incident being forgotten quickly. Outside of the Alabama game he was solid most of the season. Very rarely missed tackles & did make some good plays. Time will tell, but I think he has a chance to recover at the combine & if that goes well I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the 1st or 2nd. I prefer others compared to him for the Texans, but I don't think he is not an option at all.

T'eo is one of the most difficult evals ever, for that reason alone it may be best just to go with another player, why risk it?

A total guess, but I think Te'o now has a chip on his shoulder and will play above expectations of many.

I'm just not sure it's worth us using a 1st on an ILB versus other needs.

chip on one shoulder? You sure it isn't dip? I saw him in zone coverages when he got his picks and his coverage skills are questionable at best...so if you use tons of man cover....I wouldn't want this guy. He really isn't even a big hitter. Here is a highlight video. Hell, he's a sloppy player in his own highlight reel, his picks come in zone coverage. He has decent closing speed, but he can't turn and run as well as you want. I'd pass because there are going to be better players out there when we pick.

Can the kid play?

If he can play & Kiper has it right, that he's the 8th best player in this draft & we let him go past 27, whatever we get at 27 better be a stud.

Then if we do draft him & he turns out to be a head case like Royce White......

damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Nope. I simply don't see him as a first round talent. Personally, I don't care about his off the field issues. Was he part of it, is he gay, those issues don't concern me. What concerns me is his inept play in the NCG. He feasted on less than steller offenses all year. When he had the opportunity to shine against an NFL caliber Offense, he struggled and struggled badly. He was slow, had difficulty shedding blockers, and looked completely lost. He had the chance to step up and be a beast at the Senior Game and he didn't bother to show up.

In my mind he is a #2 ILB in a 3-4 scheme. The problem is the #2 ILB comes off the field in nickle/dime packages. Would you want to invest a first round pick in a guy who may not see the field against opponents who employ multiple set WR front? I wouldn't. I don't think he is good enough for Cush's position as the #1ILB.

Thus, I would not draft him in the first round and would not touch him until the 3rd. At that point he would be worthwhile since he could drop into coverage and work on tackling technique. He is closer to being the 108th best prospect in this draft than the #8.

He's not that good. His off the field wierdness aside. I didn't even want the dude before this stuff came out...before the ntl chmp game.

More hype than actual substance.

To me hes just been over hyped by the media due to all those supposed tragic events with his grandmother and his fairy girlfriend. Hes 2nd or 3rd round talent imo.

I've felt the same way for quite some time. I even made it a point to watch a few ND games (which I can't stand) to see what all the hype was about. Sure enough, it was much ado about NADA.

I wouldn't be surprised if this dude dropped like an anchor in the draft. He's definitely not a 1st round talent, imo
