I want this guy on the Texans

What a story. Im gonna go find that book.

It's definitely worth reading, it's a story that's really going to be talked about on draft day when he declares (next year?). I've read it once and as soon as I read 'Liars Poker' I'm going back and re-reading BlindSide again.

I'd love, absolutely love us getting Oher. The thing about it though is he's not quite polished yet. IF he were to declare this year, he'd prob. be the 3rd? OL taken. I think he has the most upside of any of 'em and at this point needs a little more coaching and he'll be great. I think we'd have a great shot at having a chance to select him this season. However, if he stays his senior year we will have 0 shot in next year's draft unless we do horrible. He should be a top 10 lock and may even go top 5. That may be a bit presumptious to say but he'd be the front runner as the 1st LT taken and those go fast.

I've been wanting to read this book ever since I heard Michael Lewis talk about it last year. I think I'm going to pick it up today.

Like you I see him going back to school for another year. And also like you I see him as the #1 OL in the draft next season. I'll go one step further, he should be the front runner for the #1 pick, only Tebow coming out early would have the name power, and a possible grasp on the top pick.

Tebow is one heck of a college QB, but how does he look to transition into the NFL? Another guy I like, not so much as the #1 overall or for our team but Michael Crabtree out of Tech...can't remember if he's a soph. this year or not but he amazes me when I watch them. How does the RB position look for the '09 draft? -This year is Stacked with a capital S and it doesn't seem like '09 will be all that strong at all b/c of so many Jr's declaring.

What a great story. Hats off to Michael and the Tuohy Family. I think he'd make a great addition to the Texan. Here's another story about him and his adoptive family.

Diamond in the Rough

I recently read this book. It was very interesting and worth the read. The author kinda makes the mother/wife sound crazy. heh

With five days to go till the deadline to declare for the NFL draft, Mississippi's Michael Oher is still deciding what to do.

The junior left tackle may wait till the last minute to decide, said his father, Sean Tuhoy.

"He's not sure what he's going to do," Tuhoy said.

The deadline for declaring for the draft is Jan. 15, but players then have three days to withdraw their names. Classes at Ole Miss begin Jan. 16.

Oher asked the NFL to evaluate his draft chances and Tuhoy said the 6-foot-5, 325-pound Memphis, Tenn., native was told he'd probably go somewhere in the first or second round.
:hmmm:

Crabtree is a redshirted freshmen. So he's probably going to come out in '09 maybe even '10 (Doubtful). I would love to see Crabtree lined up besides Johnson, but if everything goes according to plan, we should've played ourselves out of being able to draft Crabtree (I fully expect him to be the top wideout in his class, and possibly go in the top 10).

RB next year won't be totally boned. Slaton is staying, and I think there's another decent RB (Could be Rice) that will be staying. Chris "Beanie" Wells from tOSU will be declaring next year I'm sure. It'll be like the '07 draft class with a few decent running backs, but not much else.

EDIT: Oher looks really good blocking, but the question is, is he athletic and mobile enough to play in an Alex Gibbs ZBS? Him just declaring will have tangible benefits for the Texans as the more jr's declare, the better chance a premier LT will fall to us.

Oher is apparently incredibly athletic for his size and in High School had one of the fastest 10 yard dash times on his team

Oher's story is great, but I do not like the title of the book: "The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game".

There's not much discussion about the left tackle position in the evolution of football.
It's a book that you check out from the library, not one to buy, JMHO.

The book does discuss how the LT position became more important after Lawrence Taylor was wreaking havoc on QBs. There is also a good chapter on the West Coast Offense too. I think the title is not necessarily talking about the evolution of football, but the evolution of Michael Oher.

Michael Lewis also wrote MONEYBALL he provides thought provoking insight in regards to Professional sports interworkings. insightful, intelligent & well written for those so inclined in more technical background specifics.
