I Luv The Guy, But Andre Is Done

This is true. He cannot get separation anymore. Anyone arguing this is out simply in denial and living in la la land. AJ needs to be cut after this season. He isn't worth near the cap space anymore. Either that, or he'll need to restructure his contract, because we need the cap space for new players.

I love AJ and he has had a great career here, but he needs to see if he can go test the market somewhere else where he can possibly compete for a SB.

Personally i think maybe our inaccurate QB has something to do with it, unless Keenum was the one making AJ look good last season :boogereater:

I really think the guys heart isn't in it. He looks so damn discouraged out there right now and while I think it's premature to say he's done I don't think he's going to fare well in this situation for long.

I can't say I blame him. This is the worst QB he's ever played with and that's saying something in this town.

Tom Brady done? Andre Johnson done?

Wonder who will be the next veteran player on the "they are done list" after having a rough game.

Andre Johnson has 18 less receiving yards than DeAndre Hopkins at this point and he's done. Okay...

i talked about this in the game thread. he looks like he doesn't even try anymore. like this attitude of "if i catch it, then i catch it, but if i don't?........fuggit"

on one end i think it's because he knows fitz is trash and knows this team isn't going anywhere.....at least that's why i want to believe to not come to the realization that he might be washed up :(

Careful, there's a mod here who gets his panties way up in a bunch if anyone suggests his hero AJ isn't great anymore.

That said, of course it's true, he doesn't give a **** about the team and I'd love to ship his ass outta here.

How many yards did AJ have last season ? That would be 1400 yards and that was playing with Schaub, Yates and Keenum.

The man has not lost it, the problem is our QB never had it.

I was referring to TD catches, which our true #1 WR might actually break double digits this season.

Sorry but O'brien is a horrible play caller, AJ is not the guy they should be throwing constant screens to, but they do at least 2-3 times a game.

Also Fitz rarely ever looks AJs way, give the man a chance to go up and get it like we all know he can.

Baby's and old folks both wear diapers. One's on their way up, one's on their way out ...

Might have been a good idea to show up to OTA's and training camp I guess if he gave a ****.

Man i sure do love how some of you turn on one of our best players in history even though we have a QB who hasn't been able to hit the broad side of a barn this season.

AJ had 1400 yards last season, O'brien has really limited AJ with his play calling.

Sure the guy is older but he has not dropped off that much since last season. This is the same people who were saying Foster was washed up this season.

"Andre is done" being a true #1 WR who can demand a safety on top of him. He is no longer a threat after the catch. However, he can still make plays. He can still win against single coverage, catch in traffic, win contested balls, etc... He can be a 1200-1400 yard receiver for another 3-4 years, possibly. The point is that, from an athletic standpoint, he is a shell of what he once was. Either you'll are in serious denial, or it his decline the past few years has made you forget what he once could do. I'd still love for him to retire a Texan and be a starting WR for this team when it returns to the playoffs in a year or two... but, not at his current cap figure.

It's pretty obvious Fitzpatrick prefers throwing it to Hopkins instead of AJ if both equally open.

What this team needs is someone with speed on the outside and transition AJ into a physical slot guy.

You are right that the Texans could design and scheme the offense to increase AJ's touches and opportunities. They do it some, but they do not philosophically want him to be the focal point of the offense. Neither do I. We have had that before... an offense that relied on a single player to make a play every time it mattered. As ugly as the offense looks, the best thing about it right now is the distribution of the ball to the two starting WRs. I see no reason to diminish Hopkins' role in the passing game. He is proving to be a reliable and a difference-maker. The issue is that our top three offensive weapons (Foster, AJ, Hopkins) all lack the speed to stretch the defense... AJ PCL injury, age, and the hamstring tear in 2011 robbed him of that part of his game. That is the reason O'Brien continues to create opportunities for D.Johnson... and the reason we will likely see Posey active and involved before the year is over.

Anyone who thinks andre is done are probably the same who said Dream was done in 92. When you as a competitor know the qb sucks donkey balls, and you've elevated a qb before,it gets old. He's still probably the fastest skill player on this team. The prospects of playing with a guy like fitz can't be a confidence booster.

Every time Fitz is throwing the ball to AJ past 10 yards he is covered. He just doesn't get separation anymore. I see it every game. My buddy at work has nagged me about it all season long and I denied it as well, but this far into the season now and it is very noticeable. It can't be denied.

And anyone excusing AJ for not playing hard or not having their heart into it sound like babies. What do you want then? Do you want the team to win and to play all out or not? Excusing AJ of not playing playing hard because he can't get the ball is a pathetic excuse for a guy that is like 34 years old. That isn't the case though either way. He simply isn't getting the separation he has in years past. Why any of you would discount his age is humorous honestly. Players at his age drop off very fast and it just happens. But to make some built in excuse for him due to the QB or the team situation when we're 4-5 is even worse. That is inexcusable as a fan considering where we are.

He isn't done by any stretch, but he isn't worth anything close to what we're paying him at this point unfortunately. We can't pay AJ that much money to do what he is currently doing now and in the future.

Yeah of course it couldn't be our QB who has been hitting just barely above 40% on his passes in the last 3 games.

I don't see how so many of you can be so down on AJ when it is clearly our QB who is failing this team, not AJ. Sure he has lost a step and not as fast as he once was, but he is still one of the top 10 WRs in the NFL.

O'brien said he was going to use AJ in a lot of different ways, so far all i see is uncreative route running, little to no play action double moves allowing for long plays/separation, and a whole lot of predictable screens.

How about we look among all the other crap around him before we call for his head.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You claim that you want the Texans to win and what the team to do well, but then you rationalize for a guy not to play hard and to excuse average play. Are you saying you want the team to tank already? If not, then you make absolutely no sense to rationalize the idea that AJ isn't playing hard.

I don't think anyone is saying that Fitz doesn't suck, but there is another receiver on the team who isn't sucking and he's the guy who showed up to training camp.

This sounds really silly coming from you. You wanted him gone before the season and bashed him relentlessly. And now everything is everything else's fault but AJ's for why he can't get consistent separation? Fitz sucks, but he knows how to complete passes, and I see him regularly looking down the field for receivers, and they aren't there a lot. Sure his accuracy sucks, but AJ is covered the majority of the time, and he needs to figure out how to get open consistently.

I see AJ still fighting hard, i saw him jump way up for a ball that was way to high and catch it out of bounds because he had no chance to get in bounds, i saw him dive head first for a pass that was easily 5 yards short. I saw him stretch out for a ball he had no chance in catching and take a shot.

And i saw "ONE" drop, so if by the QB falling to be accurate is AJs fault than yeah your right AJ blows.

Ummm i wanted him gone if he did not want to be here via training camp, not because he turned 33 and thought he didn't have "IT" anymore. Big difference, but i have never been an AJ basher because of his play.

Saying that Andre, or any other player for that matter, is on the backside of their career is hardy turning on him. It doesn't take Vince Lombardi's eyes to see that he doesn't have the same explosiveness he once did. Saying so is merely speaking frankly.

If Andre's diminished play this year is so heavily weighted to the coaching and play of O'Brien and Fitz then how exactly was Hopkins able to go off the way he did today? Same constants in play there, no? Just because you have a fathead on your wall of a guy is no reason to believe he's going to play the same forever.

Oh, and our quarterback sure was able to hit the broadside of DeAndre's hands today.

Nope,I'm saying he's been part of 2 2-14 squads. Here comes the college/patriot oc whom I like and your answer at qb is a guy who's best year is like schaubs worse year. As a wr,hall of fame wr, look at the qbs he's proped up. Carr, schaub, yates, and keenum. The playoffs twice since 2003. Meanwhile, wayne had peyton and now luck. Brown has ben. Steve smith has flacco and fitz has carson palmer. Andre has fitzpatrick who we have seen throwing the ball behind him in traffic. Throwing the ball high and all kinds of passes. Does andre get the quick seperation like he used to? No,his seperation comes from his transition from a big fast guy to one of the best route runners in the nfl.

He's not super human anymore. His body language says it all. He's still a very capable WR but he isn't the same guy we've watched all these years. It is pretty sad.

Personally i think maybe our inaccurate QB has something to do with it, unless Keenum was the one making AJ look good last season :boogereater:

Lol, will never argue your a Texan fan till the end. Keep up the good fight but one day Dre won't be there no more

Do you realize what we are paying him to produce what he is showing that he can produce this year?

He didn't want to be part of the situation that is existing right now. This is what he knew would likely happen, and it is. He is part of that with his struggles to get separation though. If he is no longer working that hard like you say, then he is no longer part of what we need on this team moving forward.

AJ can still fill certain roles and become an essential piece to help certain teams make a run, but he is no longer an elite receiver and he isn't a guy that can get do what he wants anymore. He is slightly above average in his first 8 games and is not worth what it will cost to keep him after this season.

He isn't one of the best route runners in the NFL. Lol! He out muscles people and uses his body to shield away defenders. I haven't said he is done. I'm saying that he is no longer a vital asset to this team. He isn't. The offense sucks and is mainly existent at all due to Arian Foster. He is basically the entire offense, so a receiver who has a contract like AJ does is a waste of cash when Fitzpatrick is your QB. If we had Rodgers or Brady, then this discussion changes some, but we don't. And we won't have a QB like that next year either. If you can't understand that, then that is a personal problem that you are going to have to slowly absorb over the rest of the season and into next year if AJ is still here. Personally, I think he is gone.

He has lost a step but we also have a QB that can't that hit a tight window

A window that got tighter due to AJ slowing down a bit due to age

40% completion, If a blind man throws enough rocks at a bucket he will make a few.

Hopkins was targeted 11 times only caught 6, AJ was targeted 7 times only caught 2.

And there is not doubt AJ is on the downside of his career, BUT O'brien is NOW the play caller, and sucks at it.

AJ had 1400 yards last season, and quite a few long TDs. I would point a finger at the new guy calling plays, and the one throwing the ball before i question our 12 year future HOF WR.

I really think the guys heart isn't in it.

That's how I see it.. Your owner says "we are going to reload not
rebuild" then the very first move that B.O. does is scrap everybody.

I knew damned good and well that we were rebuilding right then and there..

Bet you Dre knew that also.

How would you feel if you were in his shoes? Then you bring in Fitzpatrick
to add insult to injury. Dre had to know this team was going to suck when
that happened.

After all, we all did..

Last I checked Andre has about 18 yards less than Hopkins but over 100 more yac. Don't say he is washed up because it's pathetic and incorrect. Has he lost a step, sure. Is he the Andre of old, no. But he is still a top 10 wide out in this league and is playing with one of the worst starters this season. Regardless of what you mindless baboons think, losing your entire career and playing with garbage qbs takes a toll and can make a person depressed on the field. It's literally the same crap but a different season. Calm the f down on all this Andre is washed up bs and worry about the real problem. Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Please tell me what other golden QB options they had then?

Schaub?? They traded him to Oakland which was gift from God that even Oakland was dumb enough to take that off of our hands.

Keenum?? The undrafted kid who is still winless.

Yates?? Do I really need to talk about his history?

A ton of other reject free agent QB's on the free agent market? Sure, a few might have been better than Fitz, but who? They're all a crap shoot. If you knew this was a "rebuild" like you say, then why are you crapping all over the organization for rebuilding? What the hell kind of QB did you expect? You claim to realize what is happening, but then complain about it happening.

If a GM had to start a franchise and got their pick of WR's, I guarantee AJ wouldn't even be top 20. Please let go of the past.

I cant tell you this Keenum with no Foster last season, has looked better than Fitz with a full set of weapons this season.

Never said he would. But he is still a top 3 player on this roster. And top 10 wr in the league. To say we need to move on because he is washed up is dumb.

He is top 10? Why because you say so? As a fan? Either make a legitimate case that he is with numbers and accomplishments this season over the rest of the league, or just stop already. No one said he was washed up completely, but he isn't a top level WR anymore, and I haven't seen you or any other guy in this thread address his contract for what his production is able to be considering the situation. Address the cap space that his contract takes up, because THAT IS THE ISSUE. Don't just throw out rhetoric about people being baboons and making false claims about what a player is without making some sort of case for why a 33/34 year old receiver is still worth close to 10 mill a season.

This is true. He cannot get separation anymore. Anyone arguing this is out simply in denial and living in la la land. AJ needs to be cut after this season. He isn't worth near the cap space anymore. When he was asking for just that not to long ago weren't you saying just the opposite.

Depends, if the guy throwing him the ball sucks at it than NO he is not worth the $$$. Kind of like if everyone around JJ sucks and our D continues to suck than JJ is also not worth the $$$ either.

I mean our defense has given up 400+ yards in 3 games in a row. All the while the offense is barley hanging 300 on their opponents !
