I like what Walker Said!!!!!

For a long time a lot of us have been saying that the players are taking far too much blame for what is happening on the field and that we have a very big coaching problem. Basically he has confirmed that and the fact that the coaches have by in large lost the respect of this ball club. That is magnified by DROB's statements. I have been saying for a long time the coaches are calling all of the shots and the players have simply been doing what they are told. They have been placed in impossible positions in impossible schemes with the coaches yelling if we only executed implying it was the players fault. Capers may be a nice guy, but may be he isn't as nice as you think. Have you ever really ever heard him take the blame for anything going on on the field?

To contrast this type of thinking I will mention the last two games at Fresno State have not been what we wanted to see at the end of our season. Hill comes out and says I do not want to diminish what my players have done trought the course of the season, but we did not get it done when it counted and as coaches we are going to have to go back and figure out how to fix it and took essentially responsibility for those games. He is a no nonsense man and his players respect him. He is a very honest and tenacious fighter who uses the slogan we will play anyone anywhere any time. He means that and his players know it. They gave SC all they wanted, but we lost a key player in that game and it turned out to be our achellies heel. We have a lot of good players, but we simply don't have the depth of a Notra Dame or SC.

You listen to Parcells when things aren't going well and he usually takes responsibility for his players performances on the field. If you look at the great coaches you will seldom hear them blame their players. They shoulder the responsibility of not having them prepared. After all, they are the generals and the players are the infantry. It really is as simple as that.

I have said for a long time this coaching staff is doing a reprehensible job and is totally demoralilizing this team. This group of players may never recover from the disasters bestood on them by this coaching staff. How the owner can sit and watch the disection of his players in this way is beyond me. Things need to change today, not tomorrow, or some months from now. It is indeed that bad.

I think most of the damage can be fixed with a new coach and some upgrades to the positions. I believe we have better talent than 1-11 and a different coach will get that talent on the field in the right positions. The position than has suffered the most through all of this is Carr and i would like to see this carr perform with a good supporting cast. I will probably not listen to the coaches show today, but I'm sure capers will not put the blame on himself or the coaches. You will also here the following word numerous times to describe the game: fought hard, execute, execution, efficiency, consistent, consistency, bla bala bla. I just don't care anymore this season.

I think it would be good if everyone kept in mind that this WAS a team that went 7-9 and that they weren't playing over their heads doing it. (a case could be made they weren't playing up to their talent level). Given that, with some good picks, a FA or 2 and MUCH better coaching, this team could be a real turn around story. We are not devoid of talent...we aren't deep either, but there is talent for a new staff to build off of. The interesting thing is that we may wind up with a "Go Deep" offense. we are built much more that way than a 3 yards and a cloud of dust team which is what Capers would like us to be. I find it intersting that we have players of one type and a scheme of another. We have NEVER fit our play to our players abilities. If a new staff does match players to scheme, we just might be a WHOLE lot better than some folks think.

I agree Edo. The only player that this scheme really suits, on offense, is Domanick. Carr is a strong-armed, downfield passer and Andre Johnson is a big WR with astounding speed, yet the game plan has almost always been 5-yard hitches with a few slants thrown in. On the few occasions that Carr has had scripted plays to go downfield, we've seen a much more dynamic offense. Then they somehow get a small lead and start sitting on the lead. I also believe Billy Miller could have been a very successful TE on this team if the O-line didn't require TE help on 9/10 downs. His strength was receiving, yet the coaching staff decided they needed blocking to compensate for the lack of pass protection.

Fix the O-line please.

I agree in large part and many of my comments have centered around the inflexibility of the coaching staff to adapt to their players rather than making their players adapting to them. I thing Casserly is a victum of the same thing. They have gone out and gotten the best player, but in so many cases the players haven't fit into the coaches schemes. We have obviously let loose of a number of players only to see how they do elsewhere including verterns. Just as amazing is how they were able to shove year 3 under the table and McNair bought it hook line and sinker. I can't imagine what they could have said that would have made him so upbeat to not question what was happening particularly after what we started to see in preseason. There were signs of problems in the training camp. I still wonder if Wand is a big victum of the coaching he's received, because Boselli was high on him. I say that in light of what has happened with the rest of the O-line. Have we totaly destoyed a young talent? I think its a real good question.

Except for when he called Terry Glenn "she" along time ago.:heh:

What I still doesn't understand is how a guy like Wand can go from starter to not even sniff the lineup when Riley is just as bad if not worse (in all fairness to Riley he is a RT) And didn't we have a guy on the practice squad or was inactive for a few weeks and all of a sudden he was a starter? ... I am not at the practices and am in no way of a coach.. It just seems/seemed strange

The players obviously realize that Capers & crew are now a lame duck regime
and don't fear retaliation for remarks like Walker made. We will hear a lot more
very interesting "feedback" from the players in coming weeks and months now that Capers is as good as gone.

Ask Glenn, Sharper, and may be now Walker and DROB. If you say anything to the contrary with respect to this coaching staff you are in hot water. I have a feeling Wand said something with respect to Pendry and he's on the outs. It appears that Pendry is his problem and I think a lot of fans should have a problem with Pendry. I just feel this staff is beyond the word incompetent.

I agree I am sick and tired of Capers saying players are not executing plays. Time for massive execution of the coaching staff and GM.

Yes, about five mintues ago on his weekly radio show.

Wow. If the fire wasnt burning enough...here is a another gallon of fuel.

Anyone remember Sharpers similar comments last year "Someone has to show us the way to win. Someone has to lead us...."

Seeing on the sideline how players yell at Capers and how Capers just looks away and doesnt defend himself shows that the players are not only not buying into their system...but also have lost respect for them.

Dunta and Walker basically called out the coaching staff this week. Things are about to blow up in Houston.

I corresponded with the young man from New Orleans for a while while he was trying out for the Texans. I tried to encourage him to give it his best as we obviously needed O-linemen. He seemed to be a very nice young man and was active in his community. He was from a small school much like Mathis and had been a standout on the line. It appeared he got no shot at all with the Texans. I felt from the emails and talking he was one of those guys that you give a real good shot to, because there's something that says they will succeed if you work with them and he had the size. I think he lasted about a week in our infamous TC. He was let go with a couple of other linemen. How we could do that so early given our O-line situation is beyond me. It seems like this staff has some kind of glove they try to fit people into, and if you don't fit, you can't play. It seems like it gets very personal.

Everyone talks about Carr and I quite frankly think they have come close to ruining his career in football. I feel the same towards AJ. AJ has a lot of talent, but I believe he's regressing as much or more than Carr. Yea, he's had some big games, but he's nowhere near the treat he should be on the field. He's still very green at playing WR. Then you look at a player like Armstrong and I think he would on the field a lot more for any other team, but the Texans. AJ is not a TO or Moss, because he needs a 2nd wide receiver to help him get open. He needs help from players like Armstrong, Mathis, and Gaffny. Enough balls need to be thrown and enough CATCHES need to be made to make AJ a threat. You just can't, run, run, the ball and throw it to AJ and expect to be effective. The team needs to have the passing game open up the offense so that the run can be effective. They opposition doesn't care how many yards DD gets as long as he doesn't score. They know the Texans are running down the clock in effect using the running game. They get a lead and say, Hey Texans, kill the clock for us and of course being the couridal group we are, we oblige them. This is indeed a strange group of coaches...........................

Riley was far worse than Wand at left tackle from the start of camp until he got benched, and if fans can see that don't you think the players can? What message does that send? What about Gaffney/Armstrong versus Bradford? No wonder the coaches lost the players early and often this year.

Here is a thread you might want to look at.

Another thread asked about who would be playing next year, which is a bit pre-emptive, but this is a message board and it's all about fun. The point I made, and that I would resubmit here, is that I don't think there will be a giant upheaval of both sides of the ball. There is only so much that can be done in an offseason; however, I think the biggest thing done will be the new coaching staff. Hopefully, they will be the right one, and they will be able to better channel D-Rob, Peek, Walker, and P-burnt. They will go into training camp with that open mind of "hey, we gotta do something different on the line," so hopefully they will not turn people away immediately but try to work with the kids.

There has to have been a big blowup over something. They say Pendry does not like Wand at all. I keep saying let Marciano be the head coach and see if you could get Boselli to come in and coach the O-line. Couldn't be any worse than what we have right now. It least he would know how to play LT. I aslo think Boselli had a run in with the coaches before he left. Boselli was a part of the team and seemed to have a repoir with the players and then all of a sudden its like the batton death march. Given our O-line problems you would have thought he might have liked to stay on and work with them. He had been tuitoring Wand and thought Wand had a lot of potential. May be we all have missed what has been going on internally for a long time.

I dont know if you realized it, but this is not that 7-9 team. The leading tackler and the veteran leader of the defense is gone. The former pro bowl corner is gone. Veteran leadership is underrated. Football has more to do with emotion than any other sport. This isnt a video game, these are real players.

One of these two players was replaced by a player who is only there to collect a paycheck, and refuses to tackle. Muchless actually take blame for bad play, but instead blames coaches on the radio repeatedly.

The offense line downgrades by bringing in Victor Riley who is like a revolving door. No upgrades were made on offense, and Domanick Davis got worse in pass protection. He may be one of the best pass catching RBs, but he is definately one of the worst pass blocking RBs in the league.

That is how this happens

Two things.

First of all, Capers HAS been taking responsebility for alot of things, in fact he said it live in the radio several times yesterday so there.

Second, and not to turn this into a pro/anti-war thread, US soldiers are the ones taking the beating for the Abu Gharib atrocities, not the generals.

Generals usually only take the blame if they get caught.

Yeah, what are they going to do? Bench Dunta?

For some reason, I think they might, and they would only further alienate themselves from the players.
