Round 1: Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA, 6-3, 222 lbs

Good size, frame, and athletic ability. He's balled out so far at UCLA, and I like his combination of size and mobility. He's no dual threat, but he's certainly got the legs and speed to extend the play. Good arm.

Matt Schaub needs to go. I defended him long enough, and I still believe he's an all-right QB, but I don't want an all-right QB anymore.


Round 2: Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, TAMU, 6-5 300 lbs

I'm awful at OL evaluation, but even I can tell you Ogbuehi's going to be making some QB very happy at the next level. This guy, along with Jake Matthews, is one of the biggest reasons for Johnny Manziel's success.

Round 3: Shayne Skov, ILB, Stanford, 6-2 245 lbs

Continuing the tradition of badass names on our LB squad, Skov will round out the lack of depth behind Cushing. Joe Mays' play has made this less of a need but I'm not entirely sure Mays is not just a one year plug. I think the injury from last year brings him down to our pick, but he's been looking good so far.

I'm a fan of Hundley, but he's pretty raw. Not a guy you want to draft and start. He needs some seasoning. We do have a lot of talent on offense to help him out though.

I doubt Ogbuehi goes pro this year. I'd expect him back for another year. Even if he does, 2nd round might be a little early for him. A guy I really like is James Hurst (OT, North Carolina) but he might not make it out of the top 40.

I really like Skov, but he's still yet to reach his pre-ACL tear form. He was a legit 1st round talent before that. A guy on the rise I like at ILB is Yawin Smallwood (ILB, UConn). Kid is a playmaker. Also like Max Bullough (ILB, Michigan State) he's the kind of plugger that would be great in our defense.

4th Round: Damian Swann, CB, UGA 5-11 178 lbs

I watched some tape on him from the Capital One Bowl against Nebraska.
He's good at reading the quarterback's eyes. On his first interception he saw Martinez staring down one receiver and positioned himself to make a play on the ball.

Needs to work on tackling a bit, but I have a feeling DJ Swearinger can help him out on that one

If for whatever reason CB becomes a bigger need over the course of the season, I'd probably take DeShazor Everett of TAMU in the 2nd if he declares (and for selfish reasons I hope he doesn't). I've watched him carefully over the course of our games, and he's done well even being moved to safety after the Clay Hunnicutt experiment there, with Floyd Raven being out for a while. One of the better cover CBs out in CFB today.


5th Round: Chaz Sutton, DE/OLB, South Carolina 6-4 256 lbs

Sutton has 11 tackles with four tackles for a loss and 1.5 sacks in 2013. He's putting together a good season. I think with his measurables he's a better OLB in our system than a DE. He'd be more of a pure pass rusher than a cover LB.

6th Round: Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin, 6-1 190 lbs

I'm beginning to worry about AJ's health. DeAndre is great but he doesn't have the wheels to take the top off any defense. Keshawn to me seems more quick and elusive than fast, so why not take a late round flier on some speed?

Whoever said white boys can't run?


Round 7: Junior Onyeali, OLB, Arizona State, 5-11 240 lbs

The PAC-10 Defensive Freshman in 2010, Onyeali is out for the season with a shoulder injury. However, at the 7th round, a pass rusher of his raw talent is tough to pass up. His size is smaller than ideal, but he has burst off the edge, and deceptive strength.

True. I feel like even if this season goes down the drain, we're saddled with Schaub for one more year, so Hundley would have his time.

Skov is improving steadily, and I don't know if he'll get back to pre-ACL form, but he is trending upwards. I'll have to see where he's at at the end of the season. I'll check out Smallwood and Bullough.

Overall I really like it. I have my doubts that the Texans take a QB next season, though I agree with you that they should. It's time for Schaub to go. A couple areas that I'd do different are a CB earlier, at least by the 3rd round, drop ILB to the 4th or 5th and I like Bullough as well. Also I don't know anything about Onyeali but that size is not going to work in the NFL. Very good job.

Hit on QB like Hundley (if he come out) would be a home run in itself. He is still developing but far ahead of Kaepernick was this stage in his career, he can literally take over games, key is consistency as professional.

Ogbuehi, OT, TAMU, 6-5 300 lbs has a high ceiling, another undercalssman & lets face it guys any OT worth his salt is going 1st rd. with rash of injury's & lack of depth around the league right now.

Give me these two players where you have them is a steal, assuming they both come out?

Skov is a great pick in 3rd. He is a Senior so easier to project I think he is a second round talent but you just never know? I really like him, he is a three down LB who can play outside of kick inside, very good in coverage too.

Georgia is probably my second favorite team this year. They have a great QB in Aaron Murray who I would love see be in a Texan uniform next season. A sweet TE in Arthur Lynch. Solid OG in Chris Burnette & Lee Dallas, can't go wrong with taking a Bulldog OL. Is Swan related to Lynn? Good value but have to agree on addressing need earlier. I like both Ekpre-Olomu, ORegon & Florida Junior Marcus Roberson.

South Carolina is another program stacked with talent. I was really hoping Texans would select Devon Taylor last year, he went end of 4th to Atlanta. If you could please compare the two?

Jared Abbrederis, WR, Wisconsin, 6-1 190 lbs is a badger so that's a positive reminds me a little of Jeff Mahel. I think his long speed hurts him, really need to focus more on a burner type. I'm quite fond of Josh Huff, Oregon. Excllent speed/size ratio & can return kicks.

I'm good with taking value late rounds to address LB & special teams just think we need another OG in here somewhere. OL is more of a concern & remember Texans stashed two on IR plus have the Montgomery project.

I wouldn't take a WR at all in the draft at all and I would take a corner early. Need to see more on individual players though. I'm not sure about the specific players taken.

1. Hundley rated 7th best player so even if he slides (or we do) don't see him avail. 2. 3 Amigos have been discussing Ogbuehi & really like him. 3. Skov we discussed him last draft but I have not seen him since his injury. I think he is more like Andrew Jackson as inside the box guy who can go outside but not so well.

Hundley- I like him, but he is pretty raw right now. I would be really surprised if he came out, and I would be hesitant to draft him right now, as I think he is a couple years away. There is no denying his upside, though.

Ogbuehi- Impressive player. No arguments here.

Skov- I don't know what to think about Skov. Sometimes he looks great, but other times I wonder either where he is, or what the hell he was thinking. I like going ILB, but I would probably go for a different one.

Swann- I don't know much about him, but I like grabbing a CB. I will try to focus on him the next time I watch Georgia.

Sutton- I know you and badboy like Sutton, but I am not a fan. I dont know what it is, but I just don't see an NFL player here. We could certainly upgrade our pass rush though, so I like the position taken.

Abbrederris- I am not so sure WR is a need. AJ looks to be good for a couple years, Hopkins looks like a stud, and people seem to be high on Posey. If we were to go WR, I would like to see a situational guy drafted- either a speedster, or a big RZ target.

Onyeali- Another pass rusher? I would keep him over Sutton though. Onyeali is an explosive player, and while he is a little undersized, I think he has the fire needed to become a situational NFL player.

All in all, good draft. A couple things I would change, but I would be mostly satisfied if the draft broke down this way.
