2nd Annual: The Way I See It

And so begins a new era of Texans football. Unfortunately for the new guy, head coach Gary Kubiak, he doesn't start with a clean slate. His 2-14 team of a year ago is too young to be disbanded completely, but this offseason (and probably next) will resemble an extreme makeover that would make even Ty Pennington well up with tears of joy.

As the article's headline suggests, this is the second year in which I am undertaking the offseason management of the Texans roster. I am not going to predict what I think will happen over these next 1,496 paragraphs; instead this installment will detail what I would like to do if Bob McNair had actually canned general manager Charley Casserly, come to his senses, and hired me to run the show alongside Kubiak. Self-serving? Maybe, but based on my attempt of a year ago, at least I would have fielded a better team last season than the other guy.

Some ground rules in case anyone else wants to play along with me. First, the real Texans work within the rules of a salary cap, and so will I, to the best of my knowledge, much of it noted on our unofficial 2006 salary cap page. I'll also keep from covering all the weird new scenarios should a collective bargaining agreement not be reached before the deadline, but know that the cap will be messier to understand if that's the case.

I'd like to see them offer contracts to Randle El, Bentley or Shaffer. Draft Bush in the 1st, an OT like Winston in the 2nd, I like Byrd in the 3rd, and use our second 3rd round pick on the best OG available.

QB: Carr, Ragone, Nealy
RB: Bush, DD, Wells, Morency, Norris
WR: AJ, Randle El, Mathis
OL: Pitts, Mckinney, Bentley/Hodgdon, OG in the draft/Weary, Winston/Wade
TE: Byrd, Joppru, Rivers

That still leaves us with a ton of holes on defense, but with the offense young and looking good, we can go all out on the D in 2007....

I am bout to do one of these. will be working on this all day. Wonder if I can post the whole thing to the board or set it up on like a xanga site or something either way Mork and I are bout to do this we will go by the same guidelines except we will have a trade and non trade options. I recommend some other people do this also it should make for some interesting reading. I think, since i have some time on my hands and only the slam dunk competition to go to later on I will get to it. Damn this is gonna be fun.

Solid work, but I don't see Kubiak passing on both Mangold and Eslinger, I am almost positive one will be a Texan. That would seem to nix your D'Qwell pick, which stings, 'cause I like his speed and athleticism, I'll just hope Witherspoon (or other quality backer) doesn't get resigned...
