How would you like this senario of picks? Day 1.

Blake

MMQB
R1.1. N.Y. Jets (F/HOU) Reggie Bush - RB USC
The Texans receive their #3 overall pick, 2nd round pick, and round 1 pick next year.

R1.3. (F/NYJ) D'Brickashaw Ferguson - LT Virginia

R2.33. Leonard Pope - TE Georgia

R2.35. (F/NYJ) Max Jean-Gilles - OG Georgia

R3.65. Nick Mangold - C Ohio St.

R3.66.(F/NO) Greg Blue - S Georgia

Steve McKinney, Marcus Coleman, Todd Wade, Mark Breuner, and Fred Weary, all get their walking papers on day 1. Only 1 defender is selected on day 1. But day 2 we get 1 CB, 1 DT, 1 OLB, and one DE. Add in 1-2 Free agents on the D side of the ball, and we are in business for next year.

I don't really like Brick at this moment, I'd rather have Winston but we'll see how they do in the combine and such. I don't like picking a TE at #33, I think we need to use it on OL or defense. You have us getting a second OL at #35 which I like and definitely think we need another OL in the high 2nd round or trade back into the late 1st for one (i.e. packaging #s 33 & 35 in this scenario to move up into the later 1st round and add maybe another 3rd round or next year's 2nd). I also would look for another OL in the 3rd round if there is a good one available, unless we can sign Bentley and/or Hutchinson, but I doubt we get Hutchinson. Still, if we sign Bentley we don't need to look for another C. Greg Blue wouldn't be a bad pickup, I'd prefer to use #33 on Huff if he falls that far (I doubt he would but if he does I'd rather get him there). I would like to dump Wade but his contract makes that difficult, it will cost us less against the cap to keep him on the bench than to cut/trade him. I definitely want to look for a CB at some point in the draft if there isn't a good one we can find in free agency, but I don't see the need to draft a DT at all, even in later rounds. Drafting a DE would only be a good choice if we switch to a 4-3, and in that case I'd look for one pretty high in the draft that can come in and start unless we can draft someone like John Abraham. In the later rounds I'd look for athletic CBs, LBs, or WRs. Overall not a bad plan at all.

I like your picks :) but your bottom line resoning I question:confused: I assume your moving Pitts to RT with D'Brick in fold but you still need depth if for some strange reason there is an INJURY  plus the cap hit from Wade would not make sense, McKinney only has a year left so the money wasted in a cap hit plus his experience in teaching Mangold/Hodgdon does have some value.

Atleast we are thinking now. I have to agree with another post made by one of the others. I am more infavor of Winston. The only problem i see coming off of him is he just came off of a torn acl. This is his 2nd year coming back so.... its kinda iffy. Personally i kinda like Pitts at LT hes seems to be doing an above average job since he took over atleast IMO. Thank god Riley is gone and Wand is not playing there. If we take Giles i think we would have to do it with the 1st pick in the 2nd round. If he falls to 35 i will ******* a brick. Well there also is setterstrom OG from Minnesota. I feel both could step in and start for us. back to Winston we could trade down once again bc i am sure GB wants Williams. Either that or we could take or we just take Hawk or Greenway or even Jimmy Williams to upgrade our D since we will take Giles in the 2nd. I am sure atleast 1 O-lineman will come over in FA. If our owner doesnt fork out the money than this team will never suceed. With the drafting of Hodgden this season drafting another ... are you planning on Hodgdon coming back not at full stregnth or moving one of the 2 to a gaurd position? I like the Blue pick you get an A on that 1.

I don't think it is neccessary to take a tackle that high...with the number 3 pick I'd rather have A.J hawk and look to pick up Gean Giles and best T available in second, or.....trade down again for a first this yr and next year plus a second this year...take winston...leaving us with possibly three second rounders and two third's...

I agree that I don't think we need to use a #3 on an OT, although I'm not sure if we can trade down again from there as I don't see any lower teams looking to move up to #3. I also don't think it is necessary to take LB that high, especially any of the ones in this year's draft. There are some pretty good ones but none that warrant a top 8 pick, much less #3

I'd love to see that happen. But I would like to see a defender in the second round like DE/LB Manny Lawson, S Nate Salley, or DE/LB Darryl Tapp.

Since we are probably going to have the first and second pick in the 3rd round, do you think that we should package both of those picks and trade back into the 2nd round? I think that we could get a pretty good 2nd round pick for both of our 3rd rounders. We could potentially get a good OL like Jean Gilles and a good TE like Pope in the 2nd.

If we have a new GM I would consider it :hmmm:

I'm not sure I would be willing to give up the extra pick to do that. To many holes, to few picks IMO. I guess it would depend on who would be expected in the 3rd.

Unless someone fall like a Abdul Hodge or Davin Joseph, I would just keep the two 3rds and get some decent players.
