how was the d

mancunian

Old Timer
guys Im in portugal so didnt see the game. how was the D, bearing in my the amount of time the bills had the ball

Considering the field position the Bills enjoyed ..... They were in the Texans end of the field ALL DAY and the amount of times they held them to field goals instead of tochdowns .... I'd have to say they did a pretty good job .... there is room for improvement in a few area's .... Pass Rush for one . :texflag:

Bend don't break, no turnovers, one sack. Had there moments when agressive. But as usual way too passive most of the game. Buchanan was toast most of the game as advertised by Raiders Fans.

I'd call the defense mediocre. Only allowed one TD and 5 FG's. They had the bend but don't break mentality and did well with it. Your defense was one of the few positives to the game.

They certainly had great dance steps. If only some ballroom music was playing when they were locked in with the Bills offensive linemen. :heh:

Maybe it's me...but that whole "bend, don't break" routine is lame. I want to see forced turnovers, mean aggressive defense, disruption at and behind the line. I want to see lots of defenders converging on the ball, wherever it is at...a QB getting hit instead of free scrambles while waiting for a receiver to get open.

I guess I did see all that...unfortunately, it was on the wrong team!

You and me both. I agree 1000%. And all this after we were told that now Capers finally had the talent to run the scheme he had been wanting to run the first 3 years, and couldn't. Folks we were played. Lying is not a trait I appreciate in an organization.

The defense did okay, and given how inept the offense was I'd give them a C+ or so. They didn't really get much pressure at all on Losman, and they didn't force turnovers like I'd expect. Peek had an excellent shot at a game changing play, but he dropped the ball and I feel for the guy since he was beating himself up about it afterwards. Way too many penalties on the defensive side of the ball. Payne had 2 or 3 offsides penalties, and Peek got one too. The number would've been higher if the Bills had accepted a few more of them. The right side of the defense was getting pounded in the second half, and PBuch was getting abused early on by Evans and Moulds. He needs to step it up and perform like a starting CB.

I'm definately more frustrated with how the offense played, but the defense definately had some areas where it could improve. It's hard to be too mad at them though since they spent a great deal of time on the field since the offense couldn't get much of anything going. :texflag:

Agreed completely. The D just didn't perform. Yards aren't everything. Let's see turnovers, pressure and bone-jarring hits.

What did PBuc do or rather not do get "toasted"? Gave up a few catches on soft coverage? Guess what - Its not his choice to pressed or soft. He did fine. Made the tackels in front of him and oh yeah - didnt give up a TD. :brickwall

Kind of hard to get the other team to punt when your Offense gave them the ball on within the (wrong) 35 yard line 3 times. They did good in my book. Got tired at the end, but thats what happens when your on the field 38:15 of a 60 minute game.

If they had put up this performance against a top-15 offense, I'd give them a C+. As it is, they surrendered way too much, IMO. If the Bills offense finishes top-15 by year's end, I'll rescind my statement, but I don't think that will be the case.

I wouldn't call holding a team with a rookie QB making his first start to one td and 5 field goals a positive. They were on the Texans side of the field all day. A veteran QB would have ripped us a new one.

But it was still enough to keep you in the game. Your defense did its job. The offense must have gone to the Anchor Bar for some wings instead of going to the game.
