How much do we, the people, want DJ?

This isn't really a thread about who we will draft in April. What I want to know is what the people here would give up in order to get #11. Realistically, we have the picks to move up to a spot where we could snag DJ, but we also have legit needs that should be addressed through the draft. Here is my 2 cents:

Houston trades Jamie Sharper to KC for pick 46

Houston trades #13, #46, and 3d rounder from Dallas to Tampa Bay for the #5

I hate having to give up three potential contributors for one player, but I do think DJ is worth it. I am not sure whether or not Tampa Bay would take it, but most everybody has them taking a running back and I'm pretty sure that Cadillac (supposedly a favorite of Gruden) would be there at 13 for the taking (it is possible that Arizona or Minnesota would take a RB I guess). Granted, the chances of us trading up are only slightly better than DJ falling but 'tis the season for speculation.

The "DJ to the Texans" dream is over. He wasn't going to last to #13. The Texans weren't going to trade up for him. Let's get on with our lives...er mock drafts, and get past this.

You could almost "copy and paste" last year's talk about Sean Taylor into all the DJ talk.

Granted, both of you are 99.9% correct but other than this guy who do you go after? We have all-kinds-of-cash invested in our d line, so why draft a tackle or end? We traded multiple picks for Babin and Peek deserves a shot at the other OLB. Nobody other than DJ is going to improve our LB corps. Our defensive backfield is the strength of this team. On offense, we have a QB, TB, and FB so nothing needed there. We have a star WR already, not to mention the only really good prospects will be gone by #13. That leaves oline, but there are no guys there that warrant that high of a pick IMO. Basically, as far as I can tell DJ is the only guy that makes sense for this team other than trading down.

To me, the price proposed at the start of this thread is too high to trade up. I would not be against trading down for some good additional picks. The Texans need help on both sides of the ball. We cannot afford to spend picks to move up again. We did that last year.

I love DJ and would be the 1st one to say that we should get him, but not at the price that you suggested. If we traded Sharper and got a 2nd round pick then I would trade our 13 and our 1st 2nd rounder at max. But I dont think that will be enough so we might as well forget it.

I'm sorry, but if we learned anything from teh Sean Taylor episodes; it's that nobody will be able to move on till well after draft day. idonno:

So everybody get ready for two more months of "We must draft DJ" or "If we don't get DJ, then Casserly is stupid" or "I'll stop being a fan of this team if they don't draft DJ" or "No cost is to high for DJ" etc, etc, till I dunno September maybe.

fact of the matter is that if anything drastic happens with Sharper.. you can bet we will be making a STRONG push for DJ. he is the perfect fit for an ILB in the 3-4. He would be the optimal replacement for a talent like Sharper.

I think we should trade carr and sharper and dunta for a few first round picks and get DJ and Aaron Rodgers. Best Idea Ever!

look, none of you have to be smug about the whole thing. to many of us Derrick Johnson is not only the perfect fit for the Texans but also a player we have followed and rooted for the last four years. everybody knows that actually getting this guy is a longshot at best, but the fit would be sooo good that if there is any chance at all we'll cling to that chance. the texans came along at the exact time that the University of Texas has produced some of the best players in it's history and we have but one (who isn't even on the roster). I amnot blaming the Texans b/c there just wasn't a way to get Roy Williams, Shaun Rogers, Quentin Jammer, Nathan Vasher, DD Lewis, Cory Redding, among others, but here is a (minute) chance to get the best the University indeed the state of Texas has produced in quite some time. excuse us oh Gods of the Houston Texans message board for holding on to that small glimmer of hope.

Really? I could have sworn, that there wasnt any mocks that had Sean Taylor coming anywhere close to us.... considering a bunch of teams in front of us had needs at safety.

In this years draft, most teams have much bigger needs than at LB, thus the speculation that he will drop.
