How fast is Reggie Bush? Can he run as fast as AJ

I was wondering if Bush has the speed of AJ? If so, its a given that we should take him in the draft considering he could be a reciever.
 
We won't know exactly until he has his workouts or attends the combine, but according to NFLDraftCountdown.com he runs a 4.28 40. In high school he was one of the best track runners in the state in California and was planning on being part of both the football team and the track team at USC. He ran an electrically timed 10.42 100m when he was a junior in High School.

Ive watched both A LOT, and Bush has that rare elite elite speed, and has a step on AJ.

I want that LB then, because that is one fast mo fo. I'll give bush he's fast, because the only LB catching him after 35 yards was starting on the sidelines.

I just dont see him being that instant sucess. He made his living bouncing far to the outside and having downfield blockers, along with complete field cutbacks. Neither of those two work very well in the NFL on most occasions.

:) I was going to say you probably were thinking more along the lines of a CB or S doing the hit.

no joke! unless our LB is in a prevent D, and 40 yards back, he would not make the tackle. Bush is faster than most lbs once he is past them. However, most LB's are quick enough laterally to get that first hit on him, and that will prove to be enough most times.

He has made his living out of playing with super talented teammates, speed, and vision. Which two of the three he will take to the NFL.

We will soon see. The Rose Bowl is this week and the Combine is a coming.:) I would not have picked him based on his performance through 2004, but I have watched every game USC played this year and he has gotten better throughout. He was also good in the clutch, which is an area we have lots of problems.

I don't see Reggie taking part in the combine, the most we can hope for will be USC Pro Day :)

why wouldnt he take part in the combine? I see him not preforming well at the combine, but excelling at his pro day.

its gota be USC.
 
He's faster than a speeding bullet....but that's not even his best trait - he can see in the dark. Incredible night vision, better than daredevil.

I will know a lot more after the Rose Bowl. We have the #1 pick in the draft and, I'm really sorry to have to say it, but, I'm going to be rooting for Leinhart and Bush to light up the Longhorns D. I want serious hype, hype, hype on those 2 guys. The more the better. I want to trade Carr and the #1 pick for 2 second round picks and Peyton Manning, lol.

OJ was one of the slowest back around....speed has nothing to do with it...it is heart......just ask his X wife

OJ could just find an opening and slice and dice his way through the secondary, virtually unscathed. You never thought he would make, but against all odds, OJ made it.
 
How can you say that Reggie is a step slower than Mathis. Mathis runs a 4.28 and Reggie runs 4.28. To have a running back with great vision would be a blessing. Not to take away what D. Davis has done for the team but anyone can rush for a 1000 yards in a season given 16 games. There have been times that a hole was there then closed up because our running backs could not hit it fast enough. Plus now when we have a break away. You wont have to worry about Reggie being caught by anyone.

If we are arguing who is faster between Mathis and Bush, I like the speed we have on the field.

That is like arguing what is faster between a Ferarri and a Lamborghini.

traditionally the top picks don't have to unless they believe it would enhance their stock value, Bush has nothing to prove he's already the #1 rated prospect, if he declares, so thats why?

being at USC with his teammates one more time would be more optional, enjoyable & dispel need for private workouts (other than Texans who have the right to negoiatate as soon as he declares & gets an agent) :cool:

I think Reggie would put a serious juke move on that LB before that LB can even think about laying a hand on him. The guy is one of the most elusive RBs in the nation. Even though he is real small compared to a RB like Jamal Lewis, he is also still not a easy RB to tackle like a Jamal Lewis. One stutter step made by Reggie would put that LB completely out of position to make the tackle. Don't under estimate the juking abilities of Reggie Bush. That is what's gonna give him that added longetivity in his career, because he has the escapability to not take on many hard hits. One-dimensional, straight ahead, power runner careers are much shorter a majority of the time. But some people tend to forget that:rolleyes:
 
Kind of like Wayne Gretzky. He wasn't the biggest guy, but he was really elusive and could avoid the hits from some of the bigger players.
 
^^And RBs like Tiki Barber, Ladanian Tomlinson, Clinton Portis, hell even Carnell "Cadillac" Williams have that same running style Reggie Bush has, but some people on this board just refuse to believe it.

I don't see the relevence of comparing Bush's speed to Johnson's (unless you're just curious).

If Bush clocks a stupid 4.18 40 at his Pro Day, does that make him faster in a sense that it's more important on the football field? How many times is a player asked to run 40 yards then stop while not wearing pads?

If he's faster than Andre (likely), you line him up at WR from time to time. If he's slower than Andre (doubtful), you still line him up at WR from time to time.

Either way, they're not going to draft for the sole purpose of playing him at WR.
 
:redtowel: The 40 measures straight ahead speed . In the old days Lynn Swan was not considered a burner but he owned the obstacle course at the Superstars competition . He was a superior all around athelete .

thats true when judging a rb the only thing I care about as far as a athletic standpoint is cutting ability, balance, and the ability to seperate from tacklers in the open field. The only position I think 40 times are important to are cbs, because they have to have recovery speed if they are caught out of position.
 
Anquan Boldin is another guy who registered a "poor" 40 time at the combine, but when you watch him play he looks pretty fast. I believe his 40 time was one of the reasons his stock dropped and didn't get taken until round 2.

I already know how fast he is, and I don't care if he shows up at the combine wearing PJ's and house shoes and runs a 5.5, he's fast when it matters, fast in relation to people trying to tackle him. Why do you need to stick a number on it?

Mathis ran an average of a 4.28 last year at the combine, with a top-timed run of 4.26. Bush has allegedly run a 4.28 somewhere along the way, and people frequently don't run as fast at the combine as they did on one lucky day somewhere in their past (Willis McGahee was rumored in college to have run a 4.25 after practice one day but is clearly not that fast). Granted McGahee had his knee injury, but people always have these amazing times that they allegedly ran one time while being timed by their college coaches (could be building up their star player's abilities) and under uncertain weather conditions (wind-aided?), so we'll have to wait 6 weeks and see what Bush runs at the combine in confined conditions and in front of NFL scouts.

Don't worry about that, Bush won't run a 4.18. Darrell Green is the only guy who's ever run it that fast and Bush doesn't come close to him. In case you guys missed it at the Pro Bowl stuff last year, Darrell Green at 44 years old still came in 4th place out of 8 in the NFL's fastest man contest running against today's current burners, he was barely beat out by the likes of Andre Johnson (2nd place) and Allen Rossum (1st place). Hopefully he'll be back again this year to line up against Jerome Mathis in the race. He was amazingly fast and it is crazy that a 44-year-old can still keep up with the fastest current NFL players. Deion Sanders in his prime ran something like a 4.21 or so and he was pretty amazing too.
 
40 times are generally bogus any ways because they are hand timed with stopwatches. That can add or subtract several hundredths or even tenths of a second on to the actual time.

As I said earlier, Reggie Bush did run a 10.28 100m when he was in High School and that was electronically timed, so it is a true 10.28. Reggie has world class speed and may have been able to qualify for the Olympics if he devoted his time to running rather than football.
 
So the real question is, do you draft Superman (Young) or The Human Torch(Bush).

I wouldn't mind taking The Thing (Ferguson) or Captain America (AJ Hawk) if we trade down.

I guess Mathis is The Flash.

I like these analogies. I'll take The Thing since we already have flash. I would bet that Siorence Moss is just as fast as Bush. I would put money on that. That kid can fly.

I think Bush would foolishly toss the ball back to some lineman following the play before that linebacker could lay a hit on him!
