How close were the Texans to being Super Bowl contenders?

But could Leinart taken us further than pre -injury Schaub?

now that's a different question than the one I addressed.
and the answer is most likely no. If could, he should have beat Schaub out in training camp. He didn't.

cue the "Kubiak was too stubborn to start anyone but Schaub" naysayers in 3.... 2... .

Cue Leinart was a 70 QB rating guy and Schaub was a 97 at that point.

No way of knowing. Too take the team further all it would take is a win over a team not known as the Bengals and 0 for the playoffs Marvin Lewis.

There is no sane argument Leinart would have taken the Texans further than Schaub. There's a very good argument Schaub's 97 rating play against the Ravens would have been enough to win that game. It was 13-20 with a QB with a 30 rating.

Actually there is a very good argument either Leinart or Schaub could have gotten them past the Ravens but it is a lot stronger with Schaub.

Paralysis by analysis.. Whoever wrote that article and wasted their time pulling up those stats has way too much time on their hands. The Houston Texans are a franchise QB away from being a SB contender (not some stupid number of average players created through some stat) ... Just as every other team is that doesn't have one.

Some teams need more than a franchise QB to get there. Would the Oakland Raiders become contenders if Tom Brady flew to California this offseason?

Just for clarity, I thought Santo was saying we would have done better with Leinart than with Yates. That's what I was agreeing with. Schaub was obviously the best of the three.

No I meant Leinart would have taken us further than Yates. Schaub would have probably taken us to the Super Bowl.

Skimmed the articles, not really much new in there.

But I disagree with the people who say the Texans are QB away from contending for the SB. Many more pieces needed to contend.

We need:
WR
Another DE
DT because Pickett isn't getting younger, and we know nothing of Louis Nix
I think we were complaining about our OGs earlier on in the season.
MLB
Someone to replace Jslow
Definetly need more TEs
Someone to take over for good as the QB

Yeah we are close
