How about some Casserly love?

I like to actually be fair and balanced with my rants. So Cass does deserve credit for drafting the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2003 (Davis), Runner up for the Defensive Rookie of Year in 2004 (Robinson) and if there were a Special Teams Rookie of the Year in 2005 it would undoubtedly be Mathis.

Hate or Homer away....

Robinson was definitely a good pick. There were only a few folks around here who had him on the radar screen until the Texans started talking about him. I would give Casserly more credit for DD if his other actions demonstrated he had any idea what he was getting. 1st they brought in Stacy Mack. Then they drafted DD and said it was to be a 3rd down back and returner. Then they displayed that they didn't really believe either of those was a long term solution by drafting Hollings. DD as the little engine that could came out of that pile to show he could start. Shanahan on the other hand spotted DD's talent before the draft.

Casserly has had a ton of great draft positions to work with he should hit the mark on at least a couple out of 50 :ok:

A blindfolded monkey with blow darts could have made as many good choices as Casserly in the draft, and don't get me started on FA, and other personell moves.

you see casserly's moves have been questionable at best...his draft picks have been decent...better than a lot of other clubs but worse that a lot of other too...but it's his ability to sign good performing free agents and the trades he has made that might be his downfall...personally i think he will still be our gm next season...but that all depends if mcnair is able to talk jimmy johnson out of retirement...if he can casserly is gone...if he can't then casserly will be here

I was on the field one game and was walking back to my seat right by Cass. I said hi and everything and he is a really nice guy. I will give him his props for being a pretty good man (we all have our demons). On the football side of things he has done a poor job on the player personnel side of things. Pitts, D-rob, AJ, Carr, DD, maybe Peek, Babin, and Faggins. Other than those moves he does not have a good track record.

Casserly gets love from me for what he decides to do with the First picks of each draft but after that (besides DD) he kinda throws darts in the dark and picks people..

Carr, Johnson, Robinson and Johnson good picks..

put then were passed on Portis to pick up Jabar Gaffney and it kinda blew my mind.. and passed on Will Witherspoon for Fred Weary and Akin Adoyele for Fred Weary.. it's not hard to recognize who's gonna be the first pick.. cause they are the most talented but picking the guys who are not on people's radars and evaluating their abilities Casserly and Comp. just cant cut it..

Geez, when I saw the headline on this thread I thought someone was breaking out the boy butter for old Charlie. I know a lot don't care for him, but I thought that might be a bit extreme. Like a train wreak, had to come look.

I have discussed taking Carr over Peppers. But passing on Portis was the one that still irks me as I wanted him in the second round on draft day (this was not hindsight vision on my part). I do think we under utilize Gaff.

Look Hindsight is 20/20. Hell if I could do it all again I would invest my Highschool money in Google and Yahoo. That is not the case though. Akin Ayodele was a 3rd round pick and the thought was we already had Peek. Getting Portis was not a huge issue that year because did we not just sign Stacey Mack to be our featured back. The Will Witherspoon thing kinda irks me cause he was an athlete and I thought we needed one, but ah well. I was with you on the Carr over Peppers thing and I thought if we are going to run a 3-4 you build around the next LT, I thought Peppers would be like LT in the 3-4 just absolutely a terror. I aggree that Cass' main problem is his picks after his first one on each day. His first first round pick and Fourth round picks are usually good. the next ones are just piss poor though.

What I was saying is that before the draft I wanted Protis in the second round if he fell as I though he was 1st round pick. I do not think anyone really though Mack was going to be here for more than a year.

I think Casserly has done well with our 1st round picks. Not necessarily the guys I would take, but he has done well. Beyond that, his track record drops off significantly with a few noteable exceptions.

NFL analysts say Casserly is great with understanding the intricacies of the salary cap and knows how to manage it properly.

Really, they said that. :ok:

[/love]

To be honest I look at Derrick Armstrong, and J Mathis not playing. I see that those are two guys that are more than deserving of a shot to play more than they do. When I look at that I say Casserly found these kids, Capers doesn't do anything as a head coach to get them the playing time they need to show just how good of a find they were.

It leads me to believe that there are others that just don't get that opportunity and that talent gets wasted. Even though Cass has made some less than smart decisions, the fault still lies on the shoulder of the head coach.

And Casserly may have drafted (college draft, not expansion draft), our franchise LT in 2002, its just taken Capers and his offense unit coaches the
fourth season to figure out that guys name just might be Chester Pitts.
I don't see how Casserly should be the heavy in this series of debacles
at managing player resources at LT.

Dunta should have been in the pro bowl last year. We had a WR there. Carr was highly ranked in passing yards last year though I dont know the exact ranking. He gambled on a former #1 (P-Buc) and a Kevin Greene hybrid type (Babin) but he has made some good picks so we'll see.

If I saw casserly right now I would puckler up and give him a big ole smack!:woot2
