asking who should return kicks due to mathis' absence.

37 percent says p-buch
32 percent says d-rob
17 percent says morency
12 percent say lundry
3 percent say schifino

at the time of me looking at it.

I am like wow.. I can see p-buch, but d-rob? as a fan ,I wouldn't want him back there... (not saying the Texans are doing this) but suprised fans would want that

Schifino is a wide reciever.

Buchanon at kickoffs and punt returns for sure.
The punt return job has already been his, but if he needs to have one or two extra plays a game, he could return kickoffs as well. :bananasplit:

anybody who votes for dunta is an idiot, or probably not a texan fan.

Why would anyone want to risk dunta getting demolished by overzealous special teamsters?

Gary Kubiak would risk it.

So anybody voting for DRob isn't an idiot.

TEXANS SUMMARY

Ready and willing
Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson is ready to add punt returner to his résumé. For the past week in practice, Robinson has been lining up alongside Phillip Buchanon as a return specialist during special teams drills.

Buchanon remains the Texans' No. 1 punt returner, but Robinson appears as if he will earn the No. 2 spot.

"It's something I expect to do," Robinson said. "Hopefully I get a couple opportunities. It's not something that I look to do each time they call a punt return, but maybe I'll get a couple of chances to show my skills back there."

The last time Robinson returned a punt was in 2003 as a senior at South Carolina. He returned three punts for 44 yards that season. In high school in Athens, Ga., Robinson returned a punt and kickoff for a touchdown.

"We're going to put the best guys back there," coach Gary Kubiak said. "I'm not worried about protecting this guy or that guy. If the best guy out there on game day is Dunta or Jerome (Mathis) or Phillip - whoever helps us win the game, that's who we're going to put out there. There's no saving anyone."

P-Buc will win the job unless we bring in another player to do the job. Dunta might get a little action but there's no way we put him in a situation where he might be in an uneeded situation and put him at risk of injury. If Schifino was a better WR and could make the team I'm sure he'd have more votes too, but we're stocked at WR right now. By mid season Jerome Mahtis will hopefully back, if not sooner.

Not sure if hes still here on the roster - What about Kendrick Starling - supposedly a pretty fast WR/ST guy close to as fast as Mathis last year?

That last part speaks volumes. Everyone on this team better put it all out there or your outta here. I hope he brings out the best in these players. If nothing else, we are definately trimming the fat off of the team. We are finally cutting players who don't meet expectations and players are going to have to fight for a starting role. This season should be great, maybe not so much in W's & L's, but more of looking like a team when we take the field on Sundays. Everyone of you know what I'm talking about. You look at us in the past and we didn't look like we were supposed to on offense or defense. It was comical at times...unfortunately.

I hope this is dawn of a new day, where the TEXANS cut "good players" (and they get jobs with some other 2-14 team) because we now have "great players"!

yes i know im going to get a lot of hate for this but i think derrick lewis could be it because ive seen him play in saints preseason a couple years ago and with the austin team and he looked like a nfl caliber kick returner

whats your thoughts on that?

I think Lewis could do a pretty good job there. I think P-Buch will still be the punt returner and lkely be our kick returner too, although we have a number of other guys like Morency, Lundy, and a handfull of WRs that could return kickoffs as well.

Buchannon will do it for three reasons:

1. He has the talent and experience
2. He is some want expendable to the team in case of injury (can't let Dunta get hurt in a non-position situation if someone else is available)
3. Excellent opportunity to win over the fans and to earn his keep for a new contract (he can turn a lot around by pulling this off)

The Mathis injury could turn out to be a great opportunity for Buchannon.
