Houston Texans: Will Anderson

no, not at all...he said in his post "pressure isnt enough" and wanted him to get to the qb on 3rd and 5's...
I asked for expectations and that was a pretty specific answer...thats not on me.

Except he never said anything about getting to the QB on every 3rd and 5, you did. That was, in fact, particularly on you.

It's not the end of the world, but you started by saying you simply wanted to ask an honest question, to which he gave an honest answer, and you ultimately dishonestly rephrased his answer to mischaracterize his expectations.

3rd and 5..get to the qb...pressure is not enough...maybe you like to interpret things on your own...i take what people say for what they say and assume they mean what they say...

so theres some rocks over there...have fun kicking them.

Then you'd take what he said as one example of a single thing that would impress him regarding Anderson, particularly as he never whatsoever said nor implied every time.

I mean, it's just a matter of simple reason that no one in their right mind would set the bar as having to deliver a sack on every single 3rd and 5 scenario.

Inserting the 'every' and not taking for granted the obvious is what makes it disingenuous.

I'm giving benefit of the doubt to you right now as a seemingly reasonable poster here that you'd understand that that couldn't possibly be anyone's honest expectation.

So every 3rd and 5 you want him to get a sack....wow.....ok. Well now we know what your expectations are.
Crazy...
Where did I say every 3rd and 5? On passing downs, he need to make his presence felt. I don't think he has honestly. Not saying he cant,he just haven't yet. Listen to what Seth Payne said about him.

you said get to the qb on 3rd and 5...pressure isnt enough.

He's created plenty of pressure and has collapsed the pocket and has blocked a fg...but apparently that isnt enough. But those are by your standards and expectations. He's doing just fine by me and plenty of others and obviously according to nerd stats.

If you dont wanna give him credit thats fine. I just wanted to know what your expectations were...now that I know what they are I can just skim over your comments on him since they arent even realistic for ANY DE in the NFL including the HOF's and all time greats.

Perhaps you should go back and take a dive into other players rookie years up through game 5 and compare stats and progress.

He doesn't have to get the sack, just win in less than 3 seconds. Make the QB say, "Ohshit" move off his spot, rush a throw... Desmond Ridder shouldn't have a career day against a top pass rusher.
That’s on Meco. He didn’t blitz and didn’t run any exotic stunts. He has to help these guys out by putting them in position to get to the QB. He also should be moving Will all across that line.

I realize it's early but what grade would you give to each of their 23' picks?
Obviously really tough this early but

CJ Stroud: A+ obvious one

WAJ: B just because of his cost until he shows more as a pass rusher

Scruggs: Unknown

Dell: A-

Horton: B- has shown some stuff in a rotational role already

Henry: B I think his upside is limited for physical traits and he’s had some bad moment. However he’s shown some flashes as a rookie

Patterson: B+ holding his own as a rookie 6th round pick is very impressive.

No grade on the last 2 yet

Looks like a great draft so far, if Anderson can develop as a pass rusher and if CJ keeps it up this could be an all timer

Hutchinson had two nice runs today on sweeps.

I think the draft class is outstanding. I would give WA an A.

If they had been drafted in reverse - Anderson at 2 and CJ at 3 in a trade up - would their grades change?
It’s a weird situation and I’m not sure how to make sense of it. all I can say is at this point I’m left wishing we had just drafted CJ Stroud and stayed put (or taken Carter). But WAJ is making plays even if he’s not getting a ton of pressure so idk man

Ridder's time to throw against Houston was 2.1 seconds

Yeah just from a simple eye test most teams playing against us are getting the ball out FAST.

The expectation on volume of sacks shouldn't be very high for any of our players.

Overall I've liked what I've seen from Will so far, in the passing and the run game.

It sounds like you're worrying about something not yet worth worrying about.

If you're expecting rookies to set the world on fire 5 games into a season I'd encourage you to pause and think about what most NFL rookies produce and then think about what most NFL superstars did in their first 5 games.

Most of what you're talking about is a conversation for the end of the year, or in three year's time.
