Houston Texans 2025 Training Camp

I don't see it as a trap. You use you resources ($'s and draft picks) wisely. They saw they could fill holes on defense with vets, and reset the offense with some solid draft picks. Jayden Higgins (WR, Iowa State), Aireontae Ersery (OT, Minnesota), Jaylin Noel (WR, Iowa State), Jaylin Smith (CB, USC), Woody Marks (RB, USC), Jaylen Reed (S, Penn State), Graham Mertz (QB, Florida), Kyonte Hamilton (DT, Rutgers), and Luke Lachey (TE, Iowa)

4 of the top 5 draftees were offense. In total, 6 offense, 3 defense. In free agency brought in 2 OT, 2 G, 2 C, 2 WR, 1 RB

I cannot see your story looking at the actual guys brought in.
Agreed I think we spent a lot of premium draft capital on the offense in general. Continued to fill out the defense with trades and free agency, but I think the defense will carry us to wins more than the offense so happy there is depth. I get the frustration in not bringing in more premium Oline players but they chose to spread the wealth and compete. Just happy to see Ersery doing well so far at RT.

I think he is referring to the quality of the OL brought in during the offseason. The play of Ingram, Tomlinson and Robinson last year is not an easy watch.

We don't know they got it right. My problem is Demeco is falling into the defensive head coach trap. You know your oline was struggling unit, but when free agency started, the team chose to spend mostly on defense. There were better options than the choices they chose to me.
In regards to again playing a guy out of position again. Essery is now playing a position he's never played because the player they drafted has been terrible.
What would you have done differently?

I'll tell you what I would've done differently. I would have used Tomlinson, Chubb, Tremon Smith etc... money to bring in Zietler.

But I'm not going to dog them because they went in a different direction than I would have gone.

We will be looking back on this seasons draft as being very successful and this season many of our draft picks will have an immediate impact.

It's very common for a rookie OT to get time at RT before moving to LT. Olu Fashanu is a great example. The Jets took him at #11 to be a future LT, but he spent his rookie year at RT. Joe Alt is another one, he started at RT as a rookie (though the Chargers already have a LT so he might stay at RT until they need him). I think most coaches would agree that the technique at RT is easier to grasp (or perhaps more forgivable) than the technique required to play at LT (aka. playing on an island).

Winners and losers after two weeks of Texans training camp

🫣 yikes if Christian Harris gets cut he can always go to Hollywood and be in dead zombie movies. He looks like he’s about to get a little Minshew neck meat.

When they showed clips of Chubb early on taking handoffs I thought he looked especially slow but thought maybe he was just holding back...

But now im starting to think this is close to his top gear.

Gotta see if his vision, feel and ability to break tackles is still strong because if not, his agility and speed certainly arent going to carry him.
I read somewhere that right now he adds on a 10 yd run after the play is over to help get into shape...hoping by the end of camp that yields some of the ability you mentioned.

It's more of a McNair thing. I've heard it's a great resort. You can get a nice room at Colonnade Estate House for 3 nights at under $16K.
what does that have to do with football??? We have state of the art bubble and fields in Houston....why are we wasting time in WV??

Pierce is already 11 weeks post quad injury, meaning he sustained a Grade II tear. He missed part of OTAs and minicamp
He was in many reports to be ready to return at the start of TC. Grade II seldom take more than 8 weeks to return. He's still working out on the sideline. His return should be guarded, as re-injuries not uncommonly occur even before the athlete officially returns to play or shortly after.

The strongest risk factor for a quadriceps strain recurrence is a recent history of the same injury. Muscle fatigue, strength asymmetries, and flexibility asymmetries also increase injury risk...............a risk that will be that much more a factor with a greater anticipated work load with Mixon out. A history of hamstring strain also increases the risk of subsequent quadriceps injuries.........he missed 4 games last season (not to even mention the 2 games he subsequently missed for a groin tear).

Why is nobody talking about the lower leg injury Cam Robinson allegedly had today? I thought that would be huge news. I'm trying to find a link rather than news break.

Edit
I've been caught up most of today, but I wanted to post it until I saw that you did. I have made it clear that I was concerned with Robinson's consistent availability, especially as a LT. Keep in mind that Robinson has been out for injuries for over half of the games in his last 3 years.

You can't keep bringing in players with significant histories of major injuries and expect to go unscathed.

Why do you think training off site is a waste of time? You do realize the vast majority of the NFL do not do their training camp anywhere near their HQ/stadium. The Cowboys spend their TC in California. Last time I looked, Dallas was in Texas, not California.

New offensive coordinator and 1st time player caller
New offense
New offensive line (3 or 4 out of 5)
New starting WRs (except Nico)
RB1 nursing an injury
What could possibly go wrong?
Good days and bad days, use camp to work out the wrinkles...but (fill in the blank)

Behind a pay wall but saw the headline. Big news. Now a reshuffling of the OL. This is the first year I'm laying off the radio. I get all my Texans news here on TT. Two thumbs up.

Houston Texans offensive lineman Cam Robinson injured in camp

Jonathan M. Alexander, Sam Warren9-11 minutes 8/4/2025

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va. — The Houston Texans’ first practice here in this West Virginia town was another test of patience for its first-team offense, which has had more bad days than good over the first two weeks of training camp.

The defense dominated again, picking off the offense four times (two from C.J. Stroud) and sacking Stroud on several occasions.

Making matters worse, the presumed starter at left tackle, Cam Robinson, suffered a lower leg injury on the first play of team drills.

It was unclear whether the injury was contact or non-contact. He was able to get up on his own power but didn't return. After practice coach DeMeco Ryans said he didn't have any updates on his status.

Robinson's injury showed that the Texans have a long way to go when it comes to figuring out their starting five as well as their contingency plans in case there is an injury.

After Robinson's injury, the Texans moved rookie Aireontae Ersery from right tackle to left tackle, Tytus Howard from right guard to right tackle and rotated Juice Scruggs and Ed Ingram at right guard.

There wasn't much success with either lineup. In fact, it just further complicated the chemistry the first-team offensive line was building as four of their lineman had become constants in the starting lineup.

While putting Ersery at left tackle puts him back at his original position, it takes him away from right tackle, which he has been learning on the fly. Same thing with Howard going from his new position at right guard to right tackle.

“As you see with our offensive line, you'll see different guys in different spots," Ryans said. "You've seen that from OTAs. You've seen that throughout training camp. No different, no extra news to report or anything about it today. It's just our guys are moving around just like they've done kind of all camp.”

Yep and now Pierce is on active roster per se Cloak above. Hopefully MIxon and the OL all come back in good form. If not that's another story RB2 RB3 RB4. Chubb Marks Jordan Brooks Dare JJ etc getting crowded. This move imo may be also from your offense infused post. Pierce and any offensive player are best when all around them complimenting the player's styles with positions to be successful.
After his fantastic first year acknowledging later injury and such he was never the same or maybe not used the same aka KR.

Feels like a microcosm of last year, moving players and shuffling the deck on the line. I'm appreciating your assessment of trying to understand why we are bringing oft-injured players of key importance aka LT. Didn't realize Cam had a history of being an iffy tackle and injured. Appreciate your knowledge! Let's hope they can get this line right!

What I take away from this revolves around Scruggs, who seems to be on the bubble for making the 53. Weeks ago I was commenting that, because of potential health issues for our older vets, the Texans may need to carry 10 OLmen on the 53. Scruggs is seemingly not having a good camp, but this injury today shows why the Texans may need to carry him as the 10th OLman. Same might be said for Fisher. Unless we want to chance slipping one through waivers and then signing to the practice squad.

How many games did Robinson miss last yr?

Man Fisher must be really stinking up the joint.

I am not surprised that Ersery moved to left tackle, but a little surprised that Scruggs at RG alternating with Ingram. I was hoping Brown would step up at right guard. We are doomed!
