Houston Texans 2025 Training Camp

So I have 2 tickets to the Club Private Party Tent at tomorrow's training camp practice. Unfortunately, I forgot I'm traveling for work the next 2 days. So if someone wants them shoot me a message and I'll transfer them to you. You gotta have a Ticketmaster account for me to transfer them. I'll keep checking on here until about midnight...yes it's free

Edit: Found someone to give these to.
That was a very cool thing you did. Much respect!

Ok, i looed up Marks and it seems he is indeed woth the 3rd round traded to move up for him. I would love to have that extra 3 rd for next year however I do remember RB’s were coming off the board at the time. I should have been more informed however when he wasn’t on my radar I just moved on.
A risky move but if he is successful, he will be worth it. If Mark's productivity is not what fans expect, it will be viewed as a bust.

I will use the “its early” moniker with every post like this, plus the usual caveat that its TC and the defense can only shoot blanks…

All that said, we are where we are and within that context im hearing that both Mills and Mertz are dropping dimes and looking good.

Its said that Mills is having his best camp. But he always shines brightest when it matters least. Im glad he is doing well, but i am not completely convinced.

I didnt even think Mertz would be ready this soon. I thought this was a redshirt year. Ill be interested to see how he does in preseason action. I get that defenses are really vanilla but you can usually get a hint if the guy can actually play or if its only against air where he looks good. If he turns into something, thats a feather in Nicks cap.

On the downside…Slovis appears to be a camp arm and hasnt been particularly impressive.
At the final cut, if Mertz and Mills are dead even, does Mertz go to practice squad or do we carry three QBs? With the need for young developing quarterbacks, does Demeco risk losing Mertz? Will the final 53 be strong enough to carry three QBs?

If Fisher isn't a starter, thats another waste of a high draft pick
It's looking like that's the case and I liked the Fisher pick.

He's a young guy hopefully he can turn it around. But all things being equal and both men at their best Ersery is the better player. Very few men the size of Ersery can move like he does. There's a reason he was the Big 10 OL of the year. Over Membou/Simmons etc... dude can play.

I'm going to have to disagree on this assessment of Fisher. This is only his second year and draft profiles said, as a rookie, he was not ready to start. And normally he should be ready to start this year, but then we go and draft Ersery to be our future LT. Draft profiles said he was not ready to start at LT as a rookie, but was a day one starter at RT. So...who do you start, Ersery or Fisher? A season behind Ersery does not make him a waste of a pick, it's just how things worked out. Unless you think we should sit Ersery.

I think they should play the better player and as of right now that appears to be Ersery.

I think he probably goes to the PS and doubtful anyone plucks him. There are plenty of fish in the sea to sign if a team has multiple injuries at QB. Never know of course but worth the risk.

But I learned so much! There was a fan. That showed up at 1AM yesterday and today at 2 AM to be 3rd in line! Don't forget the whole minute about Christian Kirk being a girl dad.

"I am being sarcastic."

When they showed clips of Chubb early on taking handoffs I thought he looked especially slow but thought maybe he was just holding back...

But now im starting to think this is close to his top gear.

Gotta see if his vision, feel and ability to break tackles is still strong because if not, his agility and speed certainly arent going to carry him.
I won't judge him just yet. I'll wait to see how he performs in an actual game. The lights and cameras always seem to bring out the best in players. He's a vet, and as long as he stays healthy, he'll secure a spot on the team.

The ole Chubb Hornswoggle!

There's always IR for Mertz.

He was drafted specifically as a developmental guy.

Development is more than just one single season. Think of any of the best offensive linemen we’ve ever drafted. None of them were really ready at the start of year 2. People complained Duane Brown was a wasted pick at that time for him.

Does that mean Fisher is going to work out? No. But it does mean we’ve got to give a lot more patience to someone who was always a developmental guy in the first place.

As I posted before, I believe anyone expecting Chubb to replace or even complement Mixon is looking for a great let down. His knees are an orthopedic surgeon's dream.

Marks is the more well rounded RB IMHO.

He's not as dynamic as Sampson or the tackle breaking rugged RB that Skateboo is.
Stroud plus these wide receivers and the alleged improvement from Caley with our tight ends, leads me to think a back like Scattebo or Samson is what we need. Both of those also can catch a pass. Too late but I can see such being sought in 2026.

Me either. I don't know if he will still be effective or not, but I'm pretty sure he won't be very fast or agile. As far as him securing a spot because he's a vet, people were saying that about Marlon Mack who ended up being washed.

I think Chubb will need to look like he has something to offer in order to make the squad.

He did look good but I am guessing the defender on that play fell down?

😂

Can't they protect a limited number of players on the PS so other teams can't grab them?

How can it hurt? It keeps him away from other teams and allows him to work out
Why would it be necessary? Mertz wasn’t exactly highly regarded in the draft process and many said he didn’t even have a draftable grade.

What team exactly do you see picking him up and making him their backup?

Also as far as I’m aware an IRd player isn’t really allowed to work out with the team.

I’d far prefer to have him on the practice squad and actually practicing with his teammates.

No, any team can sign a player off another team's practice squad. However,a player can refuse the elevation and stay on the practice squad. I think that has happened before. Just not likely.

This was to an earlier discussion about "what if" Mertz shows out in PS and what to do with him. Keep him over Mills? Try to sneak him through on the practice squad, where 31 other teams could poach him? This is Mills contract year, so there's that to think about. Placing him on IR keeps him safe from being poached and allows him in team meetings, etc. without him affecting the 53-man roster.
As to whom has been stashed on IR, every team does it every year. A variety of good to potentially good players get stashed on IR.

I’d like to hear who has actually been a true IR stash and properly developed after that. Players get on IR all the time but someone who was a fringe roster player that actually developed? Can’t remember who that actually happened with.

Also this “what if” seems highly speculative. If he’s that valuable you would just cut Mills, but I can’t see the world where Mertz is actually that good.

We also see random QBs (and other positions for that matter) ball out against other teams’ fourth stringers and future non-NFLers before and never get claimed by teams. I just can’t envision any team making him a part of their 53.
