horn_omatic mock #1

What i tried to do is come up with what i thought would give us the most bang for our buck. There maybe a couple tiny reaches here, but i tried to keep the prospects in what i figured would be respective rounds. I kinda spread it around to where we could get solid players at different areas of need.

#1. Reggie Bush RB 6-0 201lbs.
#33. Marcedes Lewis TE 6-6 256lbs.
#65. Bobby Carpenter OLB Ohio St. 6-3 255lbs.
#66. Darryl Tapp DE Va. Tech 6-1 268lbs.
#97. Cedric Griffin CB Texas 6-2 195lbs.
#129. Mike Haas WR Oregon St. 6-1 209lbs.
#160. Adam Stenavich OT Michigan 6-5 317lbs.
#197. Jami Hightower OG Texas a&m 6-4 355

Would rather address OL with #33 and gofor TE at # 65 or 66 if we don,t sign Putzier,if we do i would go CB ,LB

Bill Parcels is in love with Carpenter and they might take him in round 1 so there is no way that the cowboys would let carpenter slip past them in the second round too.

if this where to happen as Texans fans we would should be grateful :homer:

ps. Michael Huff is gonna be the big surprise catch of the top 10 picks, he will make immediate impact.

Tapp is a more a power rusher than finesse like Freeney but I get your thought. If you could switch out Ced Griffin for a better corner it would make the draft pretty bearable. Also add Chris Chester. Take Jonathan Joseph over Mercedes Lewis anyday though.

I figured he did pretty well having only one horn :homer: on the list :)

The Carpenter pick was a bit of a reach, but like most drafts some people slip farther than expected especially after the first round. The good thing about this draft is there is a lot of quality talent that should be available in the second or even third rounds. I relize we may be getting jeb, but my mock was as of today assuming we make no other changes. I was kinda torn on the griffen pick, initally i had Charles Gordon CB Kansas.

I like Tapp a lot. He reminds me of Freeney with his size and speed.

Tapp doesn't have Freeney-type speed, he runs in the mid-4.8 range.

Not bad but I have some suggested changes:
#33 - I'm not sure Marcedes Lewis falls this far, but I'm still not real fond of him. I'd rather take a guy like Dominique Byrd, Joe Klopfenstein, Anthony Fasano, or Tim Day in the 3rd round. If Leonard Pope fell this far I'd definitely take him, but he won't and I don't overly like Lewis there.
#65 - I doubt Carpenter falls this far, he will be gone by the mid-2nd, possibly even the end of the 1st. I would love to add Carpenter though, but I wouldn't use the #33 on him if he's there, I think we have more pressing needs to fill than the LB position that he'd play.
#66 - I'm not real fond of this pick either. I like Darryl Tapp and he has nice quickness and moves, but he's still not especially quick or fast to be our speed rusher. He ran a low 4.8 40 at the combine, coupled with Anthony Weaver's 4.95 that he ran and we have a slow group of DEs. Peek is currently slated as our LDE, and I think he and Tapp are similar types of pass rushers, Tapp is a little heavier but Peek is a lot more athletic and has the same quick moves and high motor.
#97 - Cedric Griffin would be a nice pick here, but I think and hope we will go for a CB higher than the 4th round.
#129 - Not a bad pick for this position if we don't get a WR earlier, but I'd rather have a bigger WR that is a more viable option as our #2 guy.
#160 & 197 - Not bad picks for this position in the draft, but I'd rather address OLine with an earlier pick. Chris Chester would be a great addition to our OLine with our 4th round pick.

carpenter won't be there in the 3rd, and Mercedes Lewis isn't that great. Hes got size but if you think hes one of those Shockey, Gates, Crumpler TEs you are mistaken. Griffin I think will be gone by the 3rd and instead of Tapp I think a WR would be better since hes not that big, not that fast, and not that strong, Im almost willing to say he wont make it in the NFL
