Hollywood Texan (not about the KEYE thing)

DiehardChris

You betcha!
Hey, I noticed you said you might be moving back to Austin soon... any interest in swapping stories?

I lived in Austin then moved to Los Angeles as it seems you did. I was a screenwriter out there for 3 years, then moved back to Austin a couple of years ago.

Are you working in the business out there?

(Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this)

Sure, let's swap stories.

I have been out here for 5 years or so.

I work for a TV syndication company in Hollywood.

I live on the Hollywood/Highland block. Don't let that fool you. It's an old apartment with no A/C.

Hah, yeah I lived south of Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks, which also fooled lots of people - it was an alley apartment, and I was always waking up homeless guys sleeping in my parking spot - and I got my tires slashed while living there. That's LA for you.

Anyway, yeah. My writing partner and I optioned one screenplay, and wrote a lot of television stuff but in the end it wasn't going as quickly as we wanted it to... I ended up subletting (illegally) from a guy in Studio City. The landlord found out, and I really had no choice but to return to Texas at that point. So here I am in ATX, working on stuff here and there while continuing to take soul-sucking office jobs, mostly accounting stuff.

I'd like to get back out to LA. Hopefully in the next few years, but if it takes longer - whatever. Long as it happens.

Not Hollywood Texan, but we moved to LA in 91, then back to Texas in 2000, then to Philly, then back to LA in 2003, and back to Texas in 2005.

We started off on Barham off the 101. Then we moved to Burbank up in the hills (straight up Olive Avenue into the hills) and then finished off in Aliso Viejo halfway between LA and SD.

Our second stint, we were in Calabasas up in the mountains off of Tujunga.

I played in a bunch of bands there my first stint.

Well it's good to hear that you went back after leaving. It seems so hard, mainly because of the finances - but also because it's just an entirely different mindset out there when you're trying to break in to one of the toughest industries to crack.

What up Pencil Neck? Long time, no talk.

Where did guys live on Barham close to the 101. Was it in those apartments accross the street from Universal and up the hill from WB? I bet the Smoke House was a hob nobbing place back then?

Exactly. The Oakwoods. We looked out over Universal from our balcony. It was pretty cool.

And, yeah, the Smoke House was pretty cool. I took a couple of guys from MI there after graduation. They had a rockin chateaubriand.

I go to Oakland to TAILGATE and watch the Texans beat the Raiders

Just making this thread fit in this forum

Staying in the Days Inn.

I got my ticket. Section 143, Row 2. That should be 40 yard line, right behined the Texans bench.

I moved from Htwon in 82 to LA to be an aspiring musician lasted till 89 then moved back to the Texas Oasis known as Austin. I wont bore you with the details of my musical extravaganza, but started out living on the floor on N Ivar in Hollywood, moved to Kings Row and Santa Monica Blvd, moved to Garden Grov, then Huntington Beach then Anaheim .
I came home to Tx for Christmas, had bbq, 80 degree weather, herad Stevie Ray Vaughn, and said, "Darnit Im moving back".
Nuff said, I rewrote the Randy Newman song" I hate LA"

Wow, I take it you lived on Ivar around the Hollywood/Sunset area. I have heard a lot stories about the 80's and what was going on in Hollywood then. PM if you have any cool stories. I would like to hear them.

The Hollywood 80's music scene is dying a slow death right now. There are still some relics walking around and some kids embracing the look, but it just doesn't seem like it is going to last much longer.

I guess everything has to run it's course.

Cool thread..... Never lived in Cali (nor would I - no offense), but its interesting to hear about it....

And Joe, thanks for your contribution so that this thread is in the proper forum.... :splits:

I heard the burritos out in California can fly...higher than the birds.

Never been to Cali, but this thread's not bad at all.

Nice to know that there are a few of us out here! I love it here, but I do severely miss going to the Texans games and the tailgate scene, esp. The Blue Crew.

Been to both - have a friend who DJ's at The Rainbow Room. Played shows at The Viper Room, Knitting Factory, Molly Malone's, The Joint, The Derby.

Joe - you're gonna be in Oakland for the game I take it? Maybe I'll have to get a ticket and drive up there!

I am going to the Oakland game too.

I am flying though.
