Hey People, just wanted to know about

Bigtiger737

Practice Squad
Hey everyone,

I'm a guy who hung out with Jason Babin a couple times when he lived here in Kalamazoo. I was just curious how all of you thought he played and what you thought of him?

IMO Babin played very well for a rookie 3-4 OLB converting from a 4-3 DE. Good containment and run stopping--good pursuit on the plays. Pass rush moves need to improve both in variety and intensity but he was hampered by playing off a DE that was underperforming and hesitation of a new job position. Good job of being around the ball/play. Good job relative to picking up a new position of learning to drop into coverage. Basically a very solid season from a guy picking up a new position and learning a lot of new responsibilities like covering backs and TE's. Physically, looks like he will benefit from a full season in the Texans fitness program. Basically a very solid season that hopefully he will build upon and really show his potential in the next 1-2 years.

well like 'cak said, most of us (with any sense of the game :heh: ) thought babin did an excellent job his rookie year. if this means anything, we also drafted dunta robinson (at # 10, ahead of jason) and he started for us at corner this year. he had some of the best stats for any corner in the league, let alone a rookie (only player with 6 picks and 3 sacks i believe). despite this, after we played chicago, the bears fans on their MB were clamoring for babin as a defensive rookie of the year!! the future looks very bright for our DE convert from western michigan... :jumpbanan

what you thought of him?

glad you brought this up, most players on our team i feel i can read pretty well character wise. but despite my <sarcasm> infinte </sarcasm> insight i, never really got a good read on jason. don't take this the wrong way, i never picked up anything negative in regards to babin's interaction with the team, but just can't tell anything quite yet. if i was to assign him a "character profile" by his play on the field, i would most likely say something to the effect of hard working, internally motivated, blue collar "get it done" type of demeanor. but since you have actually hung out with him, maybe you could give us what you though about babin as the person, rather than the player...

I feel much the same way as Infantrycak & jr0ck. I agree that he looked like he was thinking more than naturally reacting last year and he worried more about losing contain than he did he did about anything else...so I think he is going to be huge next year and have a far greater impact because he will not be in as much of a learning/transition mode and will be able to react to situations more instinctively. He is going to be one of our front 7 cornerstones for years to come.

What about this: Babin & Peek starting outside with Wong replacing Forman @ starter on inside. If some people are right and D. Johnson is @ 13, WOW! What a corps of linebackers. Of course that does not address dline. But maybe Payne will return and we could get a steady f/a to strengthen line.

Ok Cool everyone, lol I don't keep contact I don't even really "know him" I just hung out a couple times at the same huse he was at. I spoke to him a few times about football mostly madden. All I can say from a couple of my brief conversations with him," Is that he was focused and just someone you knew would be somthing. Other than that like I said just a couple chats. But I hope the best for him and For you texans I look forward to watching them progress and become a real solid team

I think Babin had a very stellar rookie year and if not for Dunta would have gotten even more hype. Like I have said and many others, with the help of a good d-line this guy will be very good.
