Have Watt and Co. Learned from the Letterman Jackets?

I just found it interesting Watt would be the one to take offense to Mettenberger's social media antics. Given he is quick to dance and has his high school dancing commercial, was on the team that thought it was a good idea to wear Letterman Jackets before the ill-fated voyage to New England in 2012, etc.

"It was kind of a reminder that this is the NFL, not high school. This is the National Football League. Welcome to the show," Watt said after the game, via the Houston Chronicle."

I guess this is the type of post we resort to when there is no loss to throw ourselves over the cliff. Houston fan isn't happy unless he's got something to complain about...

Most those guys aren't even on the team anymore. I doubt it.

Not complaining. Just find it ironic. You're allowed to see the irony in #99 around here right?

The letter mans were more about unity than anything else. These guys do not need to wear letter mans for everyone to know they are Texans. Big difference from that compared to one 6th round rookies taking selfies than focusing on the game.

You can't say 99 isn't always focused on the game.

I believe that JJ questioned whether he was properly preparing himself to start in his first NFL game by posting a selfie on IG only 90 minutes before kickoff. (i.e.- this isn't high school where just walking on the field makes you the best player out there)

When JJ Watt isn't properly prepared for game time, then I will find your post ironic.

Pretty much this.

Then again, the kid threw for 299 with 2 TDs and 1 Pick. :kitten:

Of all of the people in the NFL that have earned the right to
wear a letterman jacket -- JJ

His jacket should have the entire alphabet on it.

In a loss?
That wasn't the question.

If you're going to qualify it that way, how about this: If Fitz had that line, how many more games do the Texans win this year?

(Hint: He's only had two games with 2 TD passes this year, we're 1-1 in those)

Paid endorsement vs. child like behavior with no provocation ... completely different.

Now now... lets not act like JJ isn't immune to child like behavior. We all saw what happened when he taunted Aaron Rodgers on Sunday Night Football. I think JJ learned from that. I also think Mettenberger will learn from his experiences he will have as a rookie starting qb on a bad football team this year.

You remind me of my dad. He always feels compelled to argue the opposite side of where everyone is at, just to be contentious. And like you, he does it in a smug tone like he is trying to teach all of us a lesson. I tend to walk away from him when he starts in, and I think I'll do the same here. Have a good day.

What's wrong with the jackets?

Alert us when Mett gets paid as much for his selfies and Watt IS GETTING PAID for his commercials.

Oh by the way, I seriously doubt that Watt wrote the script for that Verizon spot. The selfie thing was ALL Mettenberger's doing. Big difference #2.

Sorry you feel that way. I forgot JJ is off limits for most people and can be nothing less than perfect at all times.

For the record I too heart JJ. But he's not Jesus.

JJ shhould worry more about him and his team. Stop giving a crap what anyone else is doing. What's he doing on IG 90 mins before the game checking out the opposing QB's pics?!?

Keep moving. Nothing to see here.

Did you listen to 610 this morning and then post this?

I don't really think there was anything wrong with the jackets apart from the fact that the team shouldn't have made a big deal out of them or traveled in them (thus making an even bigger deal out of them). It was like you could hear the train approaching and just knew there was no way they could possibly get the Texans team bus off the tracks in time.

But the jackets are cool and there's nothing wrong with them.

Did the team learn from that experience? I think so. I think they learned an important lesson on walking the walk before you start talking the talk. I think it put their limited success up to that point in perspective.

Man, some of you guys will find anything to complain about.

Mettenberger should be taking his first NFL start more seriously. The winning team gets to do the talking and JJ did.

I see no problem with it, and it should give Mettenberger motivation heading into his 2nd career game next week or when we see them next month.

Taking a picture of yourself and posting it doesn't mean that you're not taking things seriously though. It's just something he did that Watt happened to pick up on. Mettenberger will learn (probably did actually) but seriously, his taking that picture is probably closer to the norm than Watt's outstanding degree of intensity (which we all appreciate immensely).

JJ mentioning it was no problem to me though. If you want to talk after you beat somebody that's as good a thing to talk about as any I guess.

Mettenberger is going to be fine. Wish we'd taken him before the Tacks got him.

Would you be happy if Fitz had that kind of game line? I sure as hell would.

Less than 50% completion, and couldn't get really any 3rd downs converted in the first 3 quarters to go with a loss? No, I really wouldn't think much of that stat line. The number of yards is pretty until you look at the other things that went into the game and how many of those yards came when the game was pretty much already decided.

Mett looked decent for a 6th round rookie, but his stats weren't anything spectacular unless just raw yards get you wet.

65.4% completion (93.4 rating) Mett vs 54.29% (83.9 rating) Fitz.
Really enhanced by the tacks 36 whole rushing yards.

Yeah, it's all about those raw numbers. I guess you missed Fitz getting lucky he didn't have more picks than the rookie, but OK.

Was it "spectacular"? No. Was it pretty solid for a rookie? Yep. (Fantastic for a 6th rounder)

You do realize that the Texans have only scored prior to the 3rd quarter in 3 of 8 games...right? Might want to scale back that whole "didn't get anything going until the 3rd" argument.

And 142 of those 299 yards came after they were down 30-9. He had 157 yards in quarters 1 through 3. Let's stop acting like this rookie went all-world on anybody.

Case Keenum threw for 275 yards a TD and no picks and a 110 QB rating in his 1st start.

I never said he went all-world. I said that if we got that level of production out of Fitz on a regular basis, we'd win more games.

You're telling us that if the Texans had decent production from the QB spot, they'd win more games? Huh, who would have thunk it?

True, but in all fairness, only a handful of QB's in the league are averaging 299 yards a game. Like 4. I'm actually shocked at the number of big name QB's averaging about 25-30 yards a game more than Fitz.

It's not even about the INT's. because he has only thrown a total of two outside of that bad two game stretch of 5 against the New York state teams.

It is the execution. Or lack thereof. I'd take the 220 yards a game if it came with better execution.

Yep. Looks a lot better when those completions convert 3rd downs and extend drives.

Since when were the letterman jackets JJ Watt's idea? Pretty sure that group is playing for other teams/ out of the league.

I don't think anyone is saying it was his idea. They're just pointing out that young players do stupid stuff and JJ was part of that whole letterman jacket "thing" just like everyone else who was here at the time.

I don't really think he was slamming Mettenberger either. I think he's been through the rookie process (albeit not at QB, but he's watched a couple of them come in here) and he was expounding on what he's learned in his time playing. I think it was a genuinely well intended suggestion.

If JJ can use Mettenberger's selfies to help motivate him to plant him into the ground, I'm all for it. I hope Foles snaps a few of himself this week.

Exactly.

Plus this is a division team and there should be talking between the two teams. Tennessee never had a a problem talking crap to us when they were leading the division and beating us. Sorry but I'm not apologizing for anytime our team is the victor. Nobody has ever apologized to us. Anyone remember Flannigan saying "well, this is their Super Bowl" when we beat them?

Oh no...........not the letterman jackets AGAIN???!?!?!!!

Have we NOT learned from the NE game of 2012????

Might as well bring back Vanilla Ice for the halftime show. 4-12 here we come! We are cursed!!!

exactly

I think the media is making a mountain out of a mole hill..

selfie... was probably a 15 second thought out of ."hey, this is my first game starting, I want to capture the moment"

no big deal.

I bet JJ spent more time on thinking of how to dance on the endzone than I silly selfie. but JJ is backing it up with his play

I still remember Keith Bulluck's "little brother" comments.

And here's more comments.

I like the trash talk, it creates a healthy rivalry and that makes the game more interesting to me.

On another note.. what does Watt's Verizon commercial have to do with this?
