Hartwell signs with Atlanta

I had an off and on interest in signing him, but I realized it was a pipe dream when we weren't able to ship Sharper somewhere else promptly...Oh well...

Just curious, but what has Hartwell ever done in his career besides get a lot of tackles and play beside Ray Lewis? His stats aren't that much better than Foreman's, but then again stats can be misleading...

From what I understand, Hartwell took a 6 year guaranteed contract with the Falcons. If the guy goes out and gets hurt in the first pre-season game, he's guaranteed to get his money for the next 6 years. It's no wonder the guy signed that contract.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I thought there were no guaranteed contracts in the NFL?

There are guaranteed contracts in the NFL. They are rare. Often times teams guarantee portions of a contract. For instance, Drew Henson has a ton of guaranteed money incorporated into his contract. It is usually given to players very high in the pecking order. I bet much of Peyton Manning's contract is guaranteed.

first off greenwood didn't get more than hartwell...greenwood's contract is 5yrs 22.5 million...hartwell's is a 6yr 26.5 million...last time i checked 26 was 4 more than 22

second greenwood is a lot faster than hartwell...capers wants speed on this defense not bulk...there is no cookie cut shape or size that linebackers have to be...otherwise guys like tedy bruschi would never have been a linebacker in the league and neither would zach thomas

third...will some of ya'll just give the guy a chance...a lot of ya'll have written greenwood off just because you haven't heard of him...i'm sorry ya'll didn't get to watch miami games but greenwood has always made plays...he doesn't get the huge hits that are shown on espn or a lot of ints or sacks but he makes tackles...he flys to the ball...and he always gives 110% to his team...he's not a leader he's just the guy who does what he is told and i think that's something capers was wanting

22.5/5 = 4.50 million a year
26.5/6 = 4.42 million a year

Last time I looked 4.50 > 4.42.

Either way you look at it, we've overpaid for Greenwood and underlooked Hartwell. This seems to be a bad recurring theme.

Hartwell wouldn't be a good fit here...He's too slow and can't cover...Once again, I ask the question

I don't really how to answer that question but I just want you to quantify the results of your questioning.

I mean what Sharper done besides get a lot of tackles and play besides Ray Lewis? What has Greenwoo ever done besides get a lot of tackles and play beside Seau and Zack Thomas? What has a rookie ever done in the NFL?

I guess I just don't understand what point you are trying to make when your quesiton can refer to many instances of player in the NFL.

Sharper and Hartwell all comparable players except for the fact that Sharper actually has coverage skills...

Greenwood is an average OLB who may thrive as an ILB and he fits our system better...

The point I was trying to make is that everyone is hyping Hartwell up for no reason...His stats for the past 3 seasons are very comparable to Jay Foreman's, and yet everyone seems to think that Hartwell is just some amazing ILB and Foreman is trash...I don't get it...

So has Hartwell and Foreman had the same opportunities, have they been in on the same number of downs?

Not sure...I haven't found a site that shows the number of downs each player was in on...Baltimore's version of the 3-4 did seem to be the closest facsimile to our 3-4, which filters most of the tackles to the ILBs FWIW...
