gs27 Mock 3.0

gs27

Veteran
This mock assumes we plan on landing a veteran QB

1 - Obi Melifonwu - SS - Uconn - 6'-4", 224 lbs: Proved to be the athletic freak that many assumed him to be at the combine, fills our need for a box SS but he also has matchup abilities to cover TE, RB and all but the quickest WRs.

2 - Jordan Willis - OLB - K-State - 6'-3", 255 lbs: Willis was my favorite 3-4 OLB prospect even before the combine and now he has proved to everyone just how athletic he is. Led Big12 in sacks, huge motor. Would be major upgrade to OLB.

3 - Adam Bisnowaty - OT - Pitt - 6'-6", 304 lbs: I prefer drafting O-line on consistency over traits. Bisnowaty was the most consistent tackle in the draft, has a strong punch, good run blocker and plays with a mean streak.

4 - Anthony Walker - ILB - Northwestern - 6'-1", 238 lbs: Former safety with great combination of range, tackling technique and coverage ability. Very instinctual, Fitzgerald called him the best linebacker he has been around including himself. IMO, Walker is just as good if not better than Cunningham.

4 - George Kittle - TE - Iowa - 6'-4", 247 lbs: Incredible hands, great athlete, good route runner, passionate blocker - This guy is a steal due to the deep TE class.

5 - Jon Toth - OG/OC - Kentucky - 6'-5", 307 lbs: Strong, Toth just dominates everyone he faces. Could start at right guard, worst case is a backup to Mancz.

6 - Robert Davis - WR - Georgia St - 6'-3", 219 lbs: Getting very little attention after testing as the most athletic WR in draft. Not heavily recruited due to HS team throwing the ball very little.

7- Aaron Jones - RB - UTEP - 5'-9", 208 lbs: Compact frame, good pad level, great route runner out of back field and a decent blocker. All around back that could eventually end up an every down starter.

I like it. I'd be scratching my head about the QB position, but I like it.

Robert Davis would be a great pick except for one thing..... the Texans don't have a 6th rd pick anymore! Lost it in the Osweiler trade. :(

Looks like he predicated this one on the assumption we pick up a FA.
It's a tricky situation but I still think we have to take a QB to groom - if Savage is not the man, the FA may only be here a year or two so you need to be grooming another.

For FFS any veteran QB we land is a patch. Still have to draft a long term post-patch QB.

Depends on which veteran we land. Some are longer solutions than others. I am no expert on grading QBs (I don't think anyone can be who doesn't watch them throw up close and sit during interviews), but those who are, say this is a really bad class. Trubisky looked decent from the coverage shown, but the rest were average at best IMO, which I admit means nothing when evaluating QBs. Thus I am not going to mock one and hope we don't draft one just to make the fans hopeful for a brighter future. If OB likes a QB we land, I will be happy. If we don't draft one, I will be happy. If we draft a QB early just because we need a shiny new QB prospect to keep ignorant fans appeased - I will not be happy.
