Great Moments In Texans History (Video)

swisher

Old School
With the draft over and training camp still 3 months away, I thought it would be fun to go back and relive some of the greatest moments in Texans history. So, I dusted off some of my videos and pulled some of those moments out and will post them here.

Great Moment #1: Might as well start at the beginning. October 5, 1999...the night before the NFL granted Bob McNair the 32nd franchise. This is Channel 2 News coverage of the NFL owners meetings in Atlanta.

October 5, 1999: NFL owners meet to award 32nd franchise

I'll try to add more as I have the time. I have every game, including preseason on tape, so if you have a request just let me know. But I'm going in chronological order, so if you ask for something in 2004 it may take awhile to get to it.

:perfect10: This is a perfectly delightful way to spend idle time until football starts. Thank you for the walk down memory lane.:highfive:

If only I had a fast computer I would be able to cap some videos too :) Thanks again for doing this I enjoy watching these

No problem! I've had these videos forever, I'm just glad I can share them with others.

Look for more tomorrow!

Great Moment #4: Reaction across Houston from fans to former Oilers about the towns new NFL franchise. Look for cameos from Ken Lay and a glimpse of the orginal version of this very website! This is coverage from Channel 2 and Channel 13 on October 6, 1999 and then a week later at a downtown rally celebrating the new team.

Great Moment #6: The only thing worse than the VY vs RB debate around here was the name debate. Months and months of nothing but name ideas. Well, in September 2000 Bob McNair put the debate to rest. This is coverage from Channel 2 from the unveiling of the name and logo, plus the CBS and FOX pregame shows the following Sunday morning.

September 6, 2000: The Houston Texans

Great Moment #8: Ok, lets just call this one a moment. On February 18, 2002 the Texans held their Expansion Draft and selected Tony Boselli #1. It was a great moment at the time, and a big step forward for the new franchise. This is live coverage from the GRB on ESPN. Too bad things didn't work out as planned....and how ironic it is to listen to the announcers talk about how good our offensive line is going to be. *sigh*

I have to believe today will also be a great moment in Texans history, the day we are rid of Casserly. This could be the catalyst of getting this franchise on the right track.

I havent seen that clip in years, but I remember watching it on TV cheering Boseli on. The plan to build this team in the trenches was there from Day 1, we have just had some bad luck implimenting it.

Hey Swisher... just want to toss you some props for your archiving skills. Pretty damn awesome. ( err maybe I should use those footballs )

Seeing Ken Lay hawking football and saying what is good for the city was priceless. I wonder if Sachse is still single? She looks like she needs some company :)

Also is Childress still a part owner in the franchise? I don't see his name on the website anymore?

Great Moment #10: The Texans were on the clock, and on April 20, 2002 they selected Fresno State quarterback David Carr as their first ever draft pick. In four up and down (insert you're own joke here) seasons, David Carr has become the face of the franchise and will begin 2006 as Houston's starter for the 5th straight season. Hopefully he will finally live up to the status of being the number one pick. And besides, we could have picked Joey Harrington.

When will we get to the greatest moment of all. IMHO. Billy Miller catching our very first TD pass? I hope I didnt jump ahead too far. If I did, please tell me and I will delete this post.

I believe he's posting these awesome memories chronologically... So the Dallas game will come in due time

Yeah, I'm going in order. It takes a while to put the clip together and upload it. I should get to the Cowboy game in a couple of days.

Best available player: 1. Julius Peppers 2. David Carr

Fan Poll: "Who will have a better career?" 60% Harrington 40% Carr

Great Moment #12: Texans vs Cowboys.....the scrimmage. Before they played for real a month later, the Cowboys came to Houston and scrimmaged the Texans in Robertson Stadium in front of 40,000 fans (including me!). Unfortunately, they did not broadcast the game in Houston, so this is only highlights from FOX Sports Southwest.

August 2, 2002: Texans-Cowboys Scrimmage

That's it until Sunday night. Coming up: The Hall of Fame Game, First Preseason Win, First Preseason Game at Reliant Stadium......and the Inaugural Game vs the Cowboys.

Great Moment #13: It was August 5, 2002. Three years after the NFL awarded Bob McNair the 32nd franchise the Texans took the field for the first time. This is coverage from Monday Night Football. Al Michaels (who apparently can't say the word "Texans") and John Madden in his MNF debut. This is the first of 2 clips and shows the first series for both the offense and defense.

August 5, 2002: Texans vs Giants - Hall of Fame Game - Canton, Ohio. First preseason game in franchise history. Part 1 of 2

Amazing. Two #1 overall picks and both get booed!

Funny to watch the conviction that Jaws had with Joey H. Talking about what a wonderful QB he is going to be and then getting to see the now Joey, a journeyman across the league. I would have to say he is going to be the next Chris Chandler.

Does anyone know if there is a video for sale somewhere of the Texans beating the Cowboys in the 1st game in franchise history? I am looking for the actual ESPN game, not an edited version with a lot of special effects etc.

This is great. Thanks man, I missed alot of this coverage. I didn't get out of the military until 2000 and lived in North Texas until 2002.
