Great Job O-Line 1 Sack

The O-Line is awesome. Pitts is doing an AMAZING job at LT. Now that the line is playing well....the fingers are pointing towards Carr now...they are giving him MORE than enough time.
 
Yeah, they gave old Dave a whole 1.1 seconds per pass play to look off every receiver, make a decision, and throw the ball. They also opened how many--0--holes for DD tonight. If we cut down the pass plays to .4 seconds or less, they MIGHT not allow any sacks the rest of the year.

Carr with the ball, Bruener takes one step and turns around, OH!!!!!!!!! to slow...sack on the play. Bruener has got to learn to turn around faster. That's the first sack of this game and it just shows how much drastic improvement this line has shown. Carr throws most passes to Bruener now because the D keeps 10 men in the backfield. Still no holes for DD though. Too bad DD can't get open for passes in .3 seconds. Oh, well. He has to help the 5 O-linemen stop that one DL anyway. They really need that 6th man to be the great pass blockers that they are.
 
I just had a thought. Long snapper. Get the long snapper to snap the ball to Carr in the shotgun. There are some situations where a team needs to go deep. I know it's so desperate it's rediculous, but I think it may actually be necessary.

Did you watch the game at all david got decent protection all game long im sorry his game doesnt impress you but he had good protection most of the game and DD does get open he had a 33 yard recption well it was a dump off:yahoo: that he turned into 33 yards.

David got crap for protection. He avoided sacks by never holding the ball for more than 1.5 seconds. It's designed that way now (Pendry). They don't trust the O-line (except for Pitts). That's why all the passes are short and the D knows they will be short and everyone's covered, and the running game suffers too. It's like playing on the 7 yard line with no end zone. That's your whole field and nobody can get open. If a receiver runs past that 7 yds., Carr is dead. The safeties are in (why would they possibly be out?), the linebackers are totally covering the field, and the corners are not backing off.

Here's my answer:

Put McKinney at guard. Use the long snapper with Carr in the shotgun (I'm not joking). Are you expecting this? JEROME MATHIS down the sideline. Corey (not good for anything else) Bradford down the other sideline. AJ cuts up the middle (deep up the middle). Tell Carr to do one thing: throw it deep. Either throw it to a receiver or throw it into the endzone stands. OPEN UP THE FREAKING DEFENSE. You can't run and throw short pass plays forever and not expect to see tight Ds.
 
Carr did NOT get good protection tonight. If he took the ammount of time a normal QB takes to drop back and read the field before throwing on every snap, he would've been sacked 15 times. Instead, he was forced to throw short most of the time before anything could develop and didn't even have a chance to look at his secondary or tertiary reads.
 
The o-line only looks good because they have crippled the entire offense to protect Carr long enough to take a 3 step drop. Those 3 step drops only occurred when he wasn't doing 2 step drops and throwing immediately.

The entire offense and defense play poorly. Special teams were the only thing that played well.
 
Yea it's pretty obvious what the Texans are trying to do. 2 second drops and the balls is out. Sure he has good protection because the defense doesn't have enough time to get to the QB. We can not evaluate too much on how the offensive line is doing unless we can consistantly drop back 5 steps and can scan the field. Did you see the one play where even though we were going to do a little 1 step hitch the line was right in Carr's face and batted it down? That was horrible and sums up the status of our offensive line.

And how do you expect the receivers to get deep if Carr has only 2 seconds to throw the ball?

Throw it deep! Throw it deep! Throw it deep! It's so simple, ain't it?
 
I have to agree here. Whoever said the OLine was great knows zero about football. This was an absolute embarassment for our OL. If the coach tells Carr to get rid of the ball in less than 2s each time, then the coaches (who have way too much blind trust in some players) don't even trust our OL. They are horrible. Maybe the worst OL in football. Carr was still getting pressured after basically taking the ball and flinging it away.
 
Carr supporters please do not try and defend Carr's play this week. I am a strong proponent for keeping Carr at the 2yr 5.5 option and I think a new system and coaching style will be great for him. As for this game he was inaccurate and did not audible to plays that could work. I understand that he is not given alot of freedom in this system, but he needs to take charge more than he does. He is our QB and leader, last game he did not do either very well.

My position on this:

Carr has problems.
The receivers have problems.
The o-line has problems.
The coaching staff has problems that trickle down to the previous three.

I, for one, am not saying Carr is faultless. I'm just saying the o-line did not play great. If they had good results it was due to the entire offense being limited in ways that have been pointed out elsewhere.

Put Ragone in the game maybe he would do something.Texan fans will never see it because if he did do something good Capers would have to answer for it,sometime in the last 10 games Ragone should have been used.

Carr had time last night it was a combination of things that made the Offense look completely inept. One was Carr's inability to make an accurate pass or for that matter a good pass. Even his completions were bad passes, he looked completely out of the game against a supspect defense. Two the route running was horrible. Three the playcalling put us behind before the game started two straight screen passes to one of our slowest receivers in Gaffney.

I think the coaches had money on how much they were gonna lose by.

Oh my god, are you so blinded by your hatred of Carr to see there is abosolutley nothing else he could do? They timed his drop on one of the throws and it was 1.2 seconds from snap to throw! How far downfiled could you run in 1.2 seconds, then turn around and catch the ball? They have crippled the entire offense because of this line, and the defense knows this. Until we start sperading out the offense, forcing them to rush only 4 men, we wont even have an offense to speak of. Through 3 quarters last night, Carr had ATTEMPTED 2 passes longer than 13 yds... that should say it all right there
 
rundrun. check my post and you will see tha I am a huge supporter of Carr and been attacked constantly on this board for supporting Carr and wanting him to be resigned. I am just not one of those type of people that will defend someone when they have a bad game. A bad game is a bad game. You say he had a bad game and then you talk about his talent. Try to read the whole post before you start attacking and writing your rebuttal to what was said.

Ted Marchibroda said Carr was easy to defend because he only reguarly completes passes where the receivers stop their patterns (hitches, stop patterns, backs out in the flat). You don't have to be 'blinded by Carr hatred' to see Carr for what he is.

So then we can keep Pendry and Capers because if we draft Lienart our troubles will be solved? Are you saying that we can only do these hitches and quick routes and single reads because Carr can not handle much more than that?

Hmm I wonder what happend to him, he was progressing so well and his games at Fresno were not the 1 read type.

Pretty much. Carr can't read defenses in my opinion. I posted this elsewhere but I'll share...Carr has been playing like this for a long time...it's just that now we aren't blaming everyone else because he can make every pass and is a physical prototype. People need to get beyond the fact that his body and arm is ideal. So what? Carr was a franchise QB about 3-4 years ago...he is just now a QB who needs to start fighting for a job. Honest competition is something we seemed to kick to the side right off the bat when we couldn't sign a Veteran because we told them up front that we would start Carr regardless. Dumbest move ever.

It's the offensive line that's been playing like this for a long time. You must be pretty solo in thinking that we have a good coaching staff, a good offensive scheme and a good offensive line.
This offense was nothing like it has been, and people need to get beyond blaming this whole debacle on the Carr. If you don't think that the offensive line and the cheesy playcalling the problem, then I can't do anything for you. We can't even pick up a 1st down running the ball on 3rd and short, or even 4th and 1.

Oh, can does Carr play defense?
 
:pigfly: I think they call these back to the basics plays ( football 101 ) just as much to get Carr to stay in there and throw it and not pretend he's Bobby Douglas . Carr's good when the other team goes to the prevent .

With the whole long-snapper scenario, he might have 3 seconds. :)
