Grantham (DL coach) to Miami or Cleveland?

A friend of mine just called to ask which of our couches is interviewing in Miami. I know that a couple weeks ago our Oline couch was going to interview for the OC job but Capers squashed it. Is he the one? :hmmm: Please say it is so. :BananaWav

Seems like a couple teams are going for him to be their Defensive Coordinator, I know browns is one of them. Is this guy real good or what?

Ya I just made a post about it, I think its our defensive line coach Grantham. Hes also gonna interview with Browns, I think both to be Defensive Coord.

Thanks. We wrote it at the same time. Why let him interview but not our Oline coach? That doesn't seem right.

Vinny can you merge posts?

Grantham already interviewed once with the Dolphins who supposedly at the time did not make him an offer. Grantham has now interviewed again with the Dolphins and has interviewed with the Browns and may be considering offers from both to be defensive coordinator.

Possibly because the Texans felt Grantham after having been here three years had fulfilled most of his contract and deserved the opportunity and Pendry has only been here one year.

Or maybe their just desperate for a DC coach. I mean, Browns hired Cowboys OC Maurice Carthon. He used to be a running back, he is not a good OC.

Granham is a relatiely young coach getting his first opportunities to move up to coordinator. Pendry has has plenty of opportunity to be a coordinator in the league. One line of thought also is that the Texans may not have wanted to lose two assistant coaches at the same time.

Grantham is gone, signed by the Browns.

The Texans are in the market for a defensive line coach after Todd Grantham accepted an offer Thursday to become the defensive coordinator on Romeo Crennel's staff with the Cleveland Browns, sources said.

An official announcement by the Browns is forthcoming.

Grantham had offers from the Browns and the Miami Dolphins, where his former boss at Michigan State, Nick Saban, is the head coach. Grantham chose Cleveland, where he will oversee the Browns' conversion to a 3-4 scheme, the same system he has coached with the Texans the past three seasons.

Grantham interviewed with the Browns on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Texans coach Dom Capers will have to replace a member of his staff for the third time in two offseasons. After the 2003 season, linebackers coach Reggie Herring left to become defensive coordinator at North Carolina State, and assistant secondary coach Brian Stewart took a job as defensive backs coach with the San Diego Chargers.

Former Baylor coach Kevin Steele, Cary Gadette and Ted Gill, all of whom coached on Capers' staff at Carolina, could emerge as candidates to replace Grantham, but it's also possible Capers could hire a coach with whom he does not have ties.

I read alot, follow the NFL as close as anyone, have developed several loose contacts (mostly swapping emails with some folks who have come to know me and trust me a bit) over the 4 decades or so that I have been an NFL fan, and form opinions about several players, coaches and front office people. That's how. Carthon is known as a no nonsense hard working type who is an excellent communicator with his players. He is the kind of coach the players listen to and respect.

Looks like he will have a chance to prove it in Cleveland. All I know is that he is considered a players kind of coach (guys supposedly play hard for him) and is well thought of.
