Google in early talks with NFL on 'Sunday Ticket' service

Google Inc has opened discussions with the National Football League to buy the rights to the "Sunday Ticket" subscription TV service now owned by DirecTV, tech blog AllThingsDigital reported on Wednesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Sunday Ticket's sales are way down due to RedZone. DirecTV is considering whether they want to re-up and there is also discussion of it going to a non-exclusive deal.

Not sure why that isn't obvious. Truth is Sunday Ticket is too much. A tiny % of people actually watch all the games. RZ gives all the highlights from around the league - all the scoring and excitement. Anyway, I didn't make it up - that was the reason given in the articleI read on this Google bid.

RZ channel is not available without the NFL Sunday Ticket package. So your suggestion that ST sales are down due to RZ doesnt sound possible which is why I asked for clarification. So THAT is why it isnt obvious.

Also, the article in the OP makes no mention of the RZ channel at all, so which article were you referencing?

Well you need to call up RZ and tell them because they have it available in my area on Uverse, Comcast, DirecTV, Dish, Phonoscope and Wavevision. As you know, those do not all carry Sunday Ticket.

Also, the article in the OP makes no mention of the RZ channel at all, so which article were you referencing?

No idea. Just saw it on one of the news feeds I browse.
 
I get NFLN and NFL Redzone on Time Warner up here in NY. No Sunday Ticket on Time Warner.

I hope Google buys ST and gives us non-directTv people an option.
