Good Hire for Saints? Chris Palmer?

I think you got a good coach. He was held back here by Capers philosophy and i think he wil get your offense on track. Took alot of heat here and was made a scapegoat for a complete failure that started at the top. Good luck Chris Palmer.

I would be worried if you go QB with the first pick. Palmer has had success with QB's in the past, but Couch and Carr were his latest disciples.

Palmer is good in situations that already have talent. He has a poor track record of developing players, and I would be wary of any team that brings him and new QB together

Well said. Palmer doesn't develop talent but he makes good use of established talent. He is really a coordinator that needs to be on a playoff level offense. While the Saints played poorly last year under the worst of circumstances, I still think they have an extremely talented offense. Just hope for your sake that you keep Bentley, because Palmer doesn't focus on leaving guys back to protect the QB (just as Carr) if he doesn't have to.

Here is one more thing to consider, and sorry if this makes you nervous. Chris Palmer was fired from a 2-14 team. That doesn't bode well in terms of what he can accomlish. On the other hand, we cut Steve Foley for not being good enough to make our roster, and he went on to make the Pro-Bowl in SD the next season

He was actually fired from an 0-2 team.

I'm conflicted when it comes to Palmer, as I was a fan of his when he was OC for the Jags in the late 90s, but he just hasn't been able to put it together since then...His tenure in Cleveland was terrible, and many blame him for Tim Couch's disappointing career...David Carr has also underachieved under him...His playcalling is questionable at best and he had to be counseled in the past for his terrible blocking schemes, IIRC...I wish him the best in NOLA, though...

I think Capers held Palmer back. The offense didn't improve with Pendy running it. Palmer was the first scapegoat for the horrid season we just had. If Capers would have concentrated on the defense and let Palmer loose on offense we could have had a solid team. Even last year.

Not a bad hire imo.
