Glenn Earl

Zeirlein (sp?) on 610 am is reporting Glenn Earl was sucker punched before the last season so that it knocked him out, required plastic surgery and was the primary reason Earl was out in the 1st half of the season. He acknowledged there was a shoulder issue also, but supposedly that was not the main reason. He reported Earl was pretty worked up about folks on the radio etc. saying he had lost his job and was injury prone. FWIW.

I'm glad they were able to keep it in house if it was an altercation between players. No sense blowing it out of proportion through the media.

call me crazy but I think he'll be a good SS ... him and CC Brown ... it's nice to have someone back there that isn't afraid* to lay the wood

* Coleman and Buchanon

I've always like Earl, but some of the more knowledgeable posters have picked up on some flaws in his game. I tend to agree with you though that Earl and Brown could develop into nice players. I atleast think they can become solid depth for us.

may have been more problems behind the scenes last year than we even imagined.

Heres hoping Kubiak can straighten this all out and get our guys focused on winning.

yea he's not the fastest guy out there in coverage for sure but a SS doesn't need to be a burner ... it certainly helps though ..

i think earl is the future of SS for us with CC brown backing him up. browns cover skills are poor and i dont think he can transition to FS with a SS/run defense mentality. also makes you think if they actually had to throw in CC into the lineup due to this.

i think it was good to keep discipline in-house, but some information should have been given out. especially now, i am interested in who it was and his motive for a "sucker punch"

I thought for a minute it might be Matt Stevens back and looking for a job, but he was a FS right? :)

that...and if he was looking for a job, he would have ACTUALLY had to hit someone

I think Glen Earl can become a solid player, Ive heard a few places that he was the #2 ranked safety after Sean Taylor until he hurt his knee, and thats why he dropped down. Maybe with a new coach/scheme noth him and CC will become solid Safetys

Im gonna say Marcus Coleman.

heh... taking bets on who sucker punched Glen Earl.

Coleman was worse on average at hitting people than P-Buc was last year--although he did lay a good lick on that tree (OK cheap shot).

C'mon Grid, Marcus would actually have to care about something first in order for him to conjure up enough emotion to hit someone... I swear that guy stays in a permanent state of bakeness...

Walker stands to lose the most from Earl's emergence IMO. I'm sticking with him ... unless it's someone across the line from him like Marcellus Rivers.

Yah it was a sucker punch though.... heck that might make Pbuc a more likely candidate. The only way he could ever get a good hit on someone is if he snuck up on them and hit them while they werent looking.

it said he required plastic surgery.. which means it must have been quite a punch. Mayby it was Gary Walker. Earl could have disagreed with coach hoke.. and Gary, seeing the disagreement, threw on his "hall monitor" sash and ran across the field to clock him.

Hoke was the DB's coach last year ...... Hoke will be the DB's coach this coming season .

CC.Brown didnt have a bad year for a rookie ..... Earl was the number 2 rated Safety in that draft prior to the knee injury which cost him most of that season and slowed him during training camp as a rookie . He's played pretty well when he's been in the line-up .

Safety is a position that can take a year or two to grow into its not as much an instinctual position like CB. I expect HUGE improvement from both players next season..... I also expect to see M.Coleman gone ... his contract is a bit extravagant for a player on the decline .:twocents:

My money is on Ramon Walker.

I wouldn't think it's Ramon. He's too calm in person, very laid back.

But who knows, you never know what happens outside of fans eyes.

my mind is leading me to a defensive player, but reality might be saying its on the other side of the ball.

pure speculation: earl makes a good play and whoever he got the best of takes a shot at him when hes walkin away. my goodness i have quite an imagination!

Hahahaha to the Gary Walker/hall monitor reference. :redtowel:

best guess...seth wand.....thats why he dropped off into an abyss never to be seen again until it was absolutley necessary.

wand was kept out of games till earl was healthy enough to play?

just thinking out loud...

OK...new question:

If you could clock anyone on the team, and not get your *** handed to you after he laughed you off, who would go after? Ha...dumb question, but I think it would be interesting to hear some answers.

Bradford/Coleman/Wade(ha yeah right) thats it for now,but if my funeral cost was paid for, Peek for all those boneheaded penalties.

Gary Walker :)... its between him and Pbuc... Walker wins because Pbuc hasnt really done anything "annoying".. he just hasnt played well. Walker wont shut his mouth :).

oooo..there is Steve McKinney though.. him and his "we are the best line in the NFL" talk... hmmmmm

I change my mind.. Steve McKinney.

I'd clock P-Buch and hope that he fell back and knocked Casserly over who then spills his drink all over Carr which forces him to finally say a cuss-word which.............(keep it going)

Not that I would do it anyways, but if I had to pick someone it would be one of the bigger guys like Gary Walker, not that I necessarily like him the least but because it would be a free shot without retaliation, while with most of the smaller guys like PBuc I would be more willing to do it without that free shot guarantee because I wouldn't be overly worried what they could do in retaliation, but either way I wouldn't hit any of them anyways, I'll just let the door hit them on their way out of town.

BTW, how did this thread ever go from talking about Glen Earl to this?

I think it was Chester Pitts. Chester was sacking grocries, when Earl spilled all the canned goods.

As to who to Clock, I will go with Pburnt, and behind him should be Corey Bradford. If Coleman is back there somewhere, he better watch it too.

That's kind of what I was thinking, too. :um:

Coach Kubiak definitely has his work cut out if he's got to deal with a team melting down behind the scenes, too.

I'm surprised that that this incident has been kept under wraps for so long. My money is on Walker.

Remember Jeff Alm? Did you hear about "that" when it happened or later on as time passed.

I was like 15 when "that" happened. I've always wondered if "that" really happened or was it just some sick rumor.....

It wasn't Matt Stevens. He was there and tried to tackle the guy that did the punching. Of course, he didn't wrap up and the guy got away.

Maybe Earl wasn't paying attention on the sidelines and one of Kris Browns "bush" kicks hit him? or was it when Carr was learning to throw the ball away instead of taking a sack :hmmm:

:stirpot:

I'm pretty sure VY traveled into the future and clocked Earl to deflect some future attention off of himself.
In the past, he knew that even he'd get tired of hearing about himself in the future.
If you follow me... :)

Another nail in the Capers Coffin. Something like this, particularly if there was serious injury, should have been taken care of outside of the locker room. Basically, its no different than a wife beater. Sorry, but that kind of nonsense doesn't belong on the team or in the locker room. You might ask, What else are they hiding? I understand football is an aggressive game played by aggressive players, but that doesn't mean that you have a license to assult people. Its like the former TB player playing for Oakland who took out the lineman from GB. As far as I was concerned the guy should have never played another play in the NFL. Yes, Sapp was a Sapp.

P.S. GB was never the same after that injury to their lineman. Perhaps GB should have sued Sapp as well. Like I said, playing hard is one thing, but playing dirty with the intent of injuring someone else simply does not belong on the field. If it can be proven, they should be barred from the NFL.
