i just can't figure out why a guy like gallery who was supposed to be the next franchise LT in the game can't beat out Simms to be the starter at LT...looks like gallery might not have been as good as advertised

Raiders | Gallery Projected as Starter at ORT - from www.KFFL.com
Sat, 30 Apr 2005 10:01:59 -0700

Steve Corkran, of the Contra Costa Times, reports Oakland Raiders head coach Norv Turner said he envisions OL Robert Gallery starting at offensive right tackle in 2005.

Often it takes several years for a guy to handle LT, so Gallery may wind up there yet. I believe Pace is the only one to start from day one. This is one of the factors (besides a lack of quality) that we didn't take an LT in the draft.

I agree with you ED, but Gallery was extremely hyped!! He's a better prospect than other guy, yet still doesn't play up to his potential. Remember, he got close to a 20 mill signing bonus. He needs to perform immediately. At least he is starting.

i understand him needing a year to get comfortable with the speed of the nfl but also look at jordon gross who is supposedly going back to RT....both guys were supposed to be franchise LT's...i remember plenty of people in houston hoping that we would trade to get them...up for gallery and down for gross...both guys have had a year to learn the position and while gross did play LT last year he is moving back to RT...just seems to me in gallery's case that simms has been inaffective at LT for two years now...shouldn't a guy who was draft number 2 overall and signed a 20 million dollar signing bonus be able to beat him out...i think so...maybe i'm being too hard on a guy who doesn't play for the texans but i know if he were here he would have been our starting LT last year and if he didn't make it and was moved to RT people here would have been up in arms

basically he was draft 2nd overall to be the franchise LT so he needs to be the franchise LT

Kwame Harris, Bryant Mckinnie, Mike Williams, Gross, etc were all first round tackles who have struggled lately

It's the ole herd mentality, and a lot of people (including some active if not
so wise members of our board) were big fans of this guy. So what if he's
6'8" and 320 lbs., so are half of the the guys that apply for jobs as tackles
in the NFL. We have so many conformists who buy into this hype about
these guys coming out of college with good PR advancing there agenda who have a descent combine, yet they really don't have a clue about the player's abilities.

Last that i heard, which was a while back (during last season) was that Oakland was happy with their current LT and had a biger need at RT. Gallery also said he'd be willing to play wherever his team needed him to. I could be mistaken but i think he played a little Guard last season too, but i could very well be wrong on that situation.

I think that Sims had done a good job at LT and until that huge dude that blocked the the field goal in the denver game in the snow is ready, Gallery will play where he is needed most.

There was no hype involved with Gallery, it was a fact that this guy was one of the most diminant tackles to come out since pace.

Jon Ogden didn't even play tackle his rookie year, he was a guard. So was he not as good as advertised if he can't even beat out the right tackle? Nah.

Gallery will be fine.

There is no bigger need in the OL than your LT, that's why guys who play that position and play it well are in such demand. In what was regarded as a strong draft, Oakland has got to be kicking themselves for the big time playmakers they passed on with their #2 overall that they used for
Gallery.

Hey, nunu, can you imagine Oakland with Roy Williams. They should have traded down and picked up williams; therefore no need for moss; and I would not have to watch numerous SPortscenter segments tracking the whereabouts of Randy Moss. I'm getting in a rant here, buT Sportscenter needs to spread the love a little bit. So tired of Cowboys coverage.
