Amid a growing internal investigation into academic fraud within its athletic department, Florida State University announced today that as many as 25 football players will not participate in the Seminoles' game against Kentucky in the Dec. 31 Music City Bowl.
In a statement released today by the university, FSU Coach Bobby Bowden said, "We have some players not traveling for one reason and some for another, including those who are ineligible for the bowl because of academic issues.
"We can not be more specific than that at this time."
FSU alerted the NCAA in September that a university-employed "Learning Specialist" and tutor enabled 23 athletes in various sports to cheat. At the time, it appeared the scope the investigation did not spread extensively to the Seminole football program.
