Front 7 on Defense ?

I thought Babin played his best game - the learning curve is starting to flatten out for him - he's making progress. Wong was strong(again), and so was Sharper - he's having a heck of a season. Robaire Smith
seemed to be real active and having a good game in general. But don't know 'bout the rest of the down linemen ? The Vikes have a very good line - who were they pushing around the most ? Walker or Payne ? That 4th string RB had a lot of running room.

Walker missed the whole 2nd half with a groin injury. I hope the Texans don't have to start signing guys off the street again. (I'm available real cheap) I'm 6'3 and exceptionally strong and have Jevon Kearse like quickness. Ok, that's my Madden 2005 self, but it's almost the same except the speed and strength part. I'm loud, though. That's gotta count for something.

Actually, their line is average at best. In Philly, their O-line got taken.

Babin may have played his best game but it still wasnt a good one, the guy was on teh turf the whole game not being able to make a tackle. He has not been able to get to the quarterback to put pressure on him other than his two sacks this year, thats not enough. and he never drops into coverage because he is too slow and it is too risky. He is one person that does not seem to have the physical tools to actually be a remarkable OLB in the nfl. He would probably be better at inside where he could concentrate more on making tackles on the runningbacks, instead of attempting to come in from the outside and falling down missing tackles and sacks

i agree. babin definitely spends a lot of time lying on the turf. either getting pancaked or slipping as someone runs by him. he looked better than in previous games, but still not great. notice that at the end of the game when they needed a pass rush, he was taken out and peek put in. peek collapsed the pocket and helped wong make that sack. should he be playing more than 3 snaps a game?

I don't see that at all. He looks fast and agressive at times as he is still thinking first, then reacting due to learning a new position. He has plenty of speed to drop into coverage like a 3-4 OLB needs to have. I don't expect more than 6-8 sacks out of him his first year so 2 puts him on course. Jeff Posey had less than 10 his first year in our system and he has been our best OLB so to date (in terms of pass rush).

Fast? he is so fast that he has to bull rush every play, where is his speed going around the tackle to get a sack? where is his speed burst up field and then a spin back inside into the pocket? contain is not running forward 7 yards contain is up 3 yards and then in two. Peek forced the sack that smith got, how many did babin force? say waht you want about babin being fast, but i dont see him making many at the line, and he certainly doesnt make any down field after a broken play. He is never around a tackle that foreman or sharper make. Peek has the speed to make the play inside and go out and help his teammates on other plays. this again was shown his senior year in college with 100+ tackles as a DE.

Peek can't play the strong side because he can't hold up to the run. There is more to being an OLB than sacks. Babin made some nice run stops yesterday in some tight situations and Peek would have been run over or he would have run himself out of the play.

Peek is not a full time ready OLB yet. It was obvious in the preseason when he kept getting lit up.

On the last play of the game, Peek came bull rushing in and looked like he hit a wall, bounced back and stood there gazing oh how he could climb it. All the while Culpepper tourches us for a longy.

Vinny, how can you say he cant stop the run when he hasnt played against the run? I think 4 tackles in one quarter was pretty good against KC, and if they werent four sacks then he had to have made some other tackles? And to you SEgenius, a bull rush is when you try to drive through a blocker, running up top on them is not a bull rush, plus say what you want on the last play, the two before he was in on he collapsed the pocket from the left and forced an incomplete pass, and then he forced daunte into robaire. everyone constantly talks about the lack of run defense peek has, but how do you know, you read about that stuff on here and believe it. If you actually watch him play, if he gets a chance, you see that he isnt as bad as you like to think. and i would also say that someone who is only 10 pounds lighter than babin would not get run over by any means. i think coming from college and leading a team in tackles from DE means that he can stop a run or two.
