2005 NFL FREE AGENT LIST (from profootballdraft.com)

This list has been divided into NFC/AFC by me to fit onto the post. This is the NFC. The AFC is only a message down. I make no guarantees the accuracy of the list.
Here is the latest version of our 2005 NFL Free Agent List. This list will likely undergo some changes between now and the start of the free agent period because of various salary cap cuts, additions, omissions, and contract opt outs.

I am only going to copy and paste the Texans list:

Houston Texans

ERFA-Jason Anderson, JJ Moses, Bryan Pittman

RFA-Jarrod Baxter, Milford Brown, Troy Evans, Demarcus Faggins, Matt Murphy, Jonathan Wells

FA-Tony Banks, Jason Bell, Marcus Bell, Corey Bradford, Junior Ioane, Marlon McCree, Moran Norris, Seth Payne, DaShon Polk, Corey Sears, Jason Simmons, Marcus Spears, Kenny Wright

No Franchise Players in 2004. No Franchise Players expected in 2005.

Jerry DeLoach will also be a FA....a key one at that.

Yeah, that why I posted the memo up top I figured some things were would be off. Yeah 4 of the top 6 DLmen for the texans are FA. Will be interested to see how this is handled.

AJ, BTW, how long did the Texans sign Chester Pitts for out of the draft??? He should be a RFA if he signed a standard 3 year deal, but he is not listedI= know Gaffney got a 7 year deal even though he was a 2nd rounder.

Pitts got a 4 year deal so he will be a UFA after the 2005 season if he continues to accrue time at the current rate.

The quick rule of thumb is that UFA is 4+ accrued years of service, RFA is 3 but less than 4 years, and EFAs are less than 3.

Teams have exclusive rights over guys with less than 3 accrued years so there is little risk of losing a guy with less than 3 years experience.

RFAs have a little more negotiating power externally, but the "owning" team can match outside offers if they want.

UFAs are free to go anywhere - including re-signing with the previous team.

There are rules for "accrued years." You have to be active for x number of games (6 or 10 - I can't remember) to get credit for an accrued year. Being on IR counts as an accried year.

Someone will post the CBA section here I'm sure.

Huh? *scratches head* Payne should be resigned. 1 injury is not too many. That said it should only be a 3/4 year deal. Faggins will not ever be a good starter but is a very good backup.DaShon polk is a ST stand out and a serviceable backup. Morran Norris is a good fullback. DD runs well behind him.

All of the ERSA and RFA will be resigned unless someone offers them something outrageous, which given the players on out list in highly unlikely. As well as many of the low cost FA. You don't gut your special teams and depth. Most of these guys will have earn thier spot but with the exception of Payne none should cost a ton of money.

Arlington...Great post, good research.

I agree with most of your assesments on resigning our FAs (regardless of which category).

I am honestly more curious as to who in the FA market we should go after. I am leaning toward upgrading the O-line and maybe an impact guy for the defensive front 7.

OG - Andruzzi (Pats) or Wahle (Packers)
OT - Jones (SEA) or maaaybe Pace (Rams)...unfortunately both of them will probably be too expensive.
I would wholeheartedly go after Kyle Turley since he is probably thru with Mad Mike and Rams. Not sure what we we have to give up for him since he won't be a free agent but we should take a hard look at whatever it is. If he passes a serious physical he would bring us a much needed shot of nastiness to the line, he is a smart (if hot headed) player who has a rep as a QBs enforcer.

For the D...Hartwell (BAL), Bell (Pittsburg), Phifer (Pats), or an outside shot at Peterson (49s). Peterson will probably get the franchise tag which takes him out of the running.

Does anyone know if Shane Lechler will be a free agent this year? I know he is a hometown boy and I work with a very close friend of his family and she says either the 04 season was the last year in his contract or the 05 season will be his last year in his contract. I was just thinking that if Stanley is having issues with injuries we could look into Lechler. Does anyone know how long Stanley has left on his contract?

Here's everything people need about the 2004 Free Agency..I Think we need to make a big run this year in free agency, be the team that everyone see's snaging all the standouts improve tremendously just go all out and get r' done

2004 Free Agency

Here is my opinion on two FA changes to be made:
TE- get Bubba Franks, but probably unlikely
LB- since Peek should be starting at ROLB in '05, and Wong wont move inside, get Bell from Pitt. and let wong be a back up or trade him.

I doubt either would be possible, but I think they are two instant upgrades that would be phenominal.

As of right now, the list in the link is for last year's free agents--Steve Foley, Ian Gold, Jevon Kearse, etc.

Turley would be perfect on the Texans

Kyle Turley? How would he be perfect on the Texans? The last time he played LT he gave up more sacks than Wand. So basically it is RT or bust and you aren't going to sit Wade who just got a $10 mil signing bonus in favor of Turley.

This is a link from the Jags board, it has the top 200 UFA listed as well as a few other lists on it from thehuddlereport.com. I cannot cut and paste it it is way too big. I just thought it was interesting though they have Seth Panye ranked as the #36th best UFA,Marlon McCree as #88, Bradford at #106, Banks at #144, DeLoach at #148, Moran Norris at #168, and Marcus Spears at #197. They also have Aaron Glenn ranked #11 as a potential cap cut.

I would like to see us get Kelly Campbell wr from Minn, Freddie Jones TE from Arizona, Seth Mckinney C/G from Miami, and Josh Evans DT from NYJ.

So do we have a franchise tag on A.J or Carr or anyone?

Franchise tags and transition tags are used on players who are not under contract, i.e. would be UFA's but for getting hit with the tag. The Texans have not tagged anyone so far in their existence.

I have been reviewing some free agents that possibly may not be stuck with the franchise tag that could be huge additions to the Texans.

1. Walter Jones (Probably will be franchised since he is a dominate LT)
2. Mark Wahles (Very good O-Linemen)
3. Andruzzi (Solid)
4. Hartwell (Solid Inside Linebacker)
5. Shaun Rogers (No chance the Lions let this guy go)

And there are several more. Now I'm not sure what kind of space the Texans have under the cap or what kind of manuvering room we have, but the Texans could improved this drastically through free agency rather than depending on rookies from the draft to have to be immediate impact players.

Any thoughts or ideas??

No, not yet. He's been rumored to get hit with the franchise tag to keep that line in tact which is one of the best in the NFL...

He re-signed over a month ago.

Already signed a new contract:

The Lions have guaranteed that tackle Shaun Rogers will anchor their defensive line for another six years.

Rogers signed a six-year contract Saturday, just before the team left for today's season-ending game against the Tennessee Titans.

With all the transactions coming across the leauge and the Texans, I thought it would be best to start a thread with releases and signings to better keep up with things.

Here's the first breaking headlines:

-- Colts to Release Pollard --
Wed Mar 2, 2005 --from FFMastermind.com

The Indianapolis Star reports with TE Marcus Pollard due a $750,000 roster bonus Friday as part of his $4.85 million hit against the NFL's $85.5 million salary cap, the Colts will release one of their more productive and popular players. The team will realize a cap savings of $2.65 million, although Pollard still will count $2.2 million against the 2005 cap in "dead money": pro-rated bonuses from his contract that have yet to be applied to

Vikings | Williams Agrees to Three-Year Deal - from www.KFFL.com
Wed, 2 Mar 2005 17:42:03 -0800

Jay Glazer, of FOXSports.com, reports the Minnesota Vikings have signed free agent DT Pat Williams (Bills) to a three-year, $13 million contract including $6 million in bonus money. The deal also includes incentives that could eventually reach $15 million.

I had hoped we were after Wahle. Oh well, maybe we have other O-line guys in our sights. Lord knows we could use a couple.

New England always seems to find guys to fill in, and coach them up to play better than they really are. I'm sure they'll find another G to plug in and do arlight.

This just in, Lamont Jordan signed a 5 year deal with the Raiders and Jonas Jennings signed a 7 year deal with the 49ers.

Jordan got a BOATLOAD of money from the Raiders. Not sure how they are affording to do all the signings they are doing.

FOXSports.com has learned that minutes after getting lineman Mike Wahle to agree to a major deal, CB Ken Lucas agreed to a massive contract that is believed to average $8 million per year over the first two years. The deal is also believed to have a split bonus and will total $13.5 to $14 million over those two years in bonus money.

Lucas was extremely attractive on the open market because of his size and athleticism. The Seahawks didn't re-sign him because they viewed Bobby Taylor as their No. 1 corner, although others around the league love the potential that Lucas shows.

I didn't even realize it until now, but the Panthers will have Chris Gamble at one corner and now Ken Lucas at the other, pretty good duo at the CB spot if you ask me...
