Fox Sports 7 Round Mock Draft

Texans34Life

I BLEED TEXANS!
http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/9484316/Predicting-the-draft,-start-to-finish

15. Houston - Clay Matthews, LB, USC, Senior: Clay's kid and Bruce's nephew can play a bit of football, too. A starter for only one year at USC, Matthews was a breakout performer during his senior season, rose to the top at the combine and was all the buzz at the USC Pro Day. Outside linebacker is an area of need for the Texans, and the Matthews name is as good as gold in the city of Houston. Fifteenth overall may be a little early, but this is a perfect match.

We pass on Malcolm Jenkins!?!?

16. San Diego - Malcolm Jenkins, CB, Ohio State, Senior: In a draft without an abundance of top-flight defensive backs, Jenkins is the top CB. His 40 speed isn't up there with 2008 first-rounders Leodis McKelvin or Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but he's played against tougher competition than either of those young men did over the course of their college careers. The Chargers have gone with defensive backfield picks in recent history - Antoine Cason, Antonio Cromartie, Eric Weddle - but still seem unsettled at the position. If none of the top four offensive tackles are on the board, look for them to go with Jenkins, who can likely play safety or corner.

46. Houston - Vontae Davis, CB, Illinois, Junior: If Davis slips all the way to here, it'd be a major shocker for the talking heads. But with a relatively underwhelming class of cornerback prospects, this is actually quite possible. Vernon's brother could start right away in Houston.

77. Houston - Andy Levitre, G, Oregon State, Senior
112. Houston - Nic Harris, S/LB, Oklahoma, Senior
122. Houston - Rashad Jennings, RB, Liberty, Senior
152. Houston - Cary Harris, CB, USC, Senior
188. Houston - Bruce Johnson, CB, Miami, Senior
223. Houston - Drew Willy, QB, Buffalo, Senior

-------------------

They got Maybin at #11 to Buffalo, Ayers at #13 to Washington, Cushing at #14 to NO, Beatty at #22 to Minnesota, Pettigrew at #24 to Atlanta, Everette Brown at #25 to Miami.

I really hope we don't pass up on Jenkins if we drops to us....

So, we draft 3 cb's, but pass on the best in the class? One of them is a guy who is largly considered uncoachable? No thanks.

Another mock made by reporters that don't do their homework and have no idea of our needs.

Actually wolf...I was thinking exactly the opposite. Great Value @ the 46. Hit our big back with the 122.....and doubled up on CB/safety prospects......took a Qb for the PS....Kinda looks like Smith's previous drafts doesn't it ? Value and cover your a$$ on the second day. Switch defense with offense ...looks like the '06 draft on the second day.

Taking the best out of a fair class insures you of what BigBull ?

They like their DBs....and they are going to sink or swim with what is on the roster. the number is twenty five. they have to move the sack total out of the mid twenties. And if this is they way they go.....they are telling you when they send Mathews.....they expect him to get there. and if he succeeds.....then every body's boat is going to float higher in the water. Including the DBs.

Totally agree, in fact this draft is too good to be true. Get a starting linebacker, the 2nd best CB, a great fit on the O-line and a big back a bit later in the draft.

cherry-picking:

15: Malcolm Jenkins
46: Louis Delmas
47: trade our 3rd, first 4th & 5th to NE to move up to mid 2nd & take Lawrence Sidbury

it would hurt a bit to trade those 3 picks but those 3 players would help our defence greatly. i think sidbury would be worth it.

122: Rashad Jennings is a nice pick and would be great value there

then get some OL depth with Isdaner & Fulton in rounds 6&7

one of the things that i just can't get over is the abundance of mocks that have us taking more than one of any single position. Smith has yet to do that in any of his drafts and they have us taking three CB's in this draft. i can see us taking one and then taking another as a CB/FS tweener but to have three go to us... just seems excessive to me not to mention unlikely.

I love 4 out of the first 5 picks. I would be very pleased with this draft through round 4 overall. I'm not wild about Nic Harris because he seems to be a tweener. I would take Brandon Williams from Tech there if available and this becomes an A+ thru the first four rounds.

After that, things go off track with multiple CB picks. How about a safety in there, and maybe a developmental tackle or TE?

I think its a pretty decent mock. I am hoping we don't take Jenkin's. He is not that impact player we are looking for. From what I read he is to slow to play CB in the NFL and who knows if he can play safety. Not the first round impact player we are looking for. Smells like Babbin.
